How I Met Your Mother (1 Viewer)

I'm not surprised at the selection. I actually thought this past episode was pretty darn good considering what we've seen this season. Off the top of my head, I liked the Barney's bachelor party bad day episode and then this one. The others this season have been pretty bad.

I really hope they don't switch it up... like this is the person carrying the stuff for the real Mother or something...

Were you guys really expecting smoking hot that much?

I wasn't sure what to expect, but Teddy Westside going for cute isn't some shock. He fell for annoying Victoria and her cankles a couple of times. It wouldn't take much for this chick to be a major step up.

I'm glad they went this route. Chicks that are attractive, but have lived life not being as hot as their best friends can often make the best wives. Generally, very cool and great in the sack.

This is also a show starring the lovely, if not crazy smoking hot by Hollywood standards, Allyson Hannigan. This isn't a big surprise.
Maybe not smoking hot, but in terms of looks, she's in the bottom 10% of girls that ole Teddy Westside has dated/hooked up with.

And considering what the daughter turned out like i was expecting at least a 7.5 on the offdee scale
Yes, have some.

lol - that has to be an option on this show...
No kidding..

She was carrying a yellow umbrella.. Ted has her old yellow umbrella from St. Paddy's day.. That's how I assumed they would meet, she'd see that he has a yellow umbrella just like the one she used to have..

But now i'm assuming they'll BOTH have yellow umbrellas while at the train station??

My wife was saying that he had left the yellow umbrella behind at her apt. when he was dating her roommate.

Good call... after doing some research, she's right.. he leaves it at his future wife's apartment when he's dating the roommate..

CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler has now confirmed for TVLine that Season 9′s entire run will, in fact, span the wedding weekend and just the wedding weekend, as the comedy details “how each character, before Ted, meets the mother. So, they each meet her independently before he does.”

Sounds interesting?

:X Might make sense if the season only lasted 5 weeks.

Episode 6: How Ranjit Met Your Mother

Show either is really running on fumes or I have left the target demographic the show strives for. Ted longing for Robin.....again?. Lilly upset that she had to move to Italy?.......Marshall worried that he has to tell his wife he's going to become a judge?..... First world white man problems.....someone please bring back Roseanne.

Have no clue how they will do this unless they have flashbacks.

I think you're misreading that situation. Lily really wants to go to Italy. If Marshall takes the judgeship it means that either they live apart for a year or Lily has to give up going to Italy. Or Marshall can give up on his dream of being a judge to make Lily happy. Basically one of them has to give up happiness for the other.

We will never know since Season 9 is HIMYM "24"

Well seeing as the finale is Marshall going back to NY where he's going to tell Lily (and somewhat quickly as they were supposed to leave soon) I suspect the discussion will happen at the wedding.

So live apart!... or tell the ##### that he'll be making way more cheddar so she has to stay! It ain't that difficult a decision.

Judges actually don't make that much money.

Don't confuse paycheck with how much $$$ he actually makes. Of course, we're supposed to believe Marshall is ethical.

The median wage for a NYC judge/magistrate is 175k a year. Not rich but that is still a pretty good living.

Howard Stern allegedly got $15 million a year to be a Judge.

Money is really irrelevant to their decision.

I'm wouldn't have any idea about what the norm is, but is it common for 35 YO, unemployed lawyers that haven't seen the inside of a courtroom since law school to get judgeships?

:goodposting:

Marshall is making $1.25 million per episode. Judge's salary is inconsequential.

I think winding down a tv show and trying to tie things up to make your watchers happy has to be one of the toughest things in tv. Early on, shows can do stories on whatever they want. It can just be any random storyline or just one off episodes about crazy antics of late 20s/early 30s folks. But as you get to the end of a show, you have to have an end point in mind and everything has to start pointing to that endpoint. You can't really do one off crazy adventure type episodes anymore. The show becomes somewhat predictable and less enjoyable. But if they don't do that, people will complain and freak out because the end of the series seemed too sudden/forced/unfulfilling/etc.

I loved Scrubs but it really started to bog down when it became less about the random zaniness of the hospital and the characters and more about all of their relationships and where they were ending up. The last season was a slog, especially with the series reset, changes and ultimately trying to spin it off into a quasi-spinoff/continuation of the show. Most people hated Seinfeld's finale although I have no idea how you end a series that essentially had no storylines anyway. Then of course there's the Soprano's ending. I watched the final episode of Friends and thought they actually did a great job wrapping up the series but the last season really sucked overall. It's a tough thing to do right.

I thought I had heard next season was going to be its last

I heard they actually thought about making this season the last and were preparing a story if it was

Im surprised to read about the 24 angle since that sounds pretty much awful.

They will probably wait til the last episode to have Ted and mother get married and then do a montage of their happy life together through pictures or something.

Not about money. It's about one of them giving up their happiness so the other can be happy. Not the most riveting sstoryline, but a realistic one that most married people face at some point.

There are plenty of things they've said through the seasons that "we'll get back to that later" that I don't see filling the episodes as a particular problem, though there will likely be some bust episodes.

However, the real question, the real issue is I believe we know Ted meets the mother on the train 5 hours after the wedding. Which means that either this show goes past the wedding weekend or we basically get no "money shot" moment where Ted meets his future wife - he sees her and thats it and we fade to black. Obviously the show has always taken liberties with time and they can go flash back or flash forward but they have to decide whether the ending is enough of a payoff to the viewers just to have him see him lock eyes with the mother and that's that. 9 seasons of watching Ted look for love, to not actually see him experience it...well if they go that route I'm curious how they pull it off.

I know the show is called how I met your mother...not how I fell in love with your mother..but still...

Here's what I'd do:

1) Robin somehow finds out she's pregnant. When Ted goes to give her the locket, profess his love and be the hero, Robin tells him she's pregnant and is so excited. He realizes Robin and Barney belong together and gives the locket to Barney to give to Robin as a symbolic gesture of him truly letting Robin go.

2) No idea with Marshall and Lily. Kind of a dumb situation IMO. Probably should have Marshall supporting her and going to Italy like she supported him through law school.

3) Every character except Ted should meet his wife and be charmed by her. As each of their storylines wrap up, they should remark to each other that they found the perfect woman for Ted.

4) Last 10-15 minutes of the show: Montage of Ted's past girlfriends with narrator Ted talking about why other people weren't "the one". Fade to Ted and "Mother" on the train and locking eyes. Narrator Ted says "But when you find the one, you'll know and it will all be worth it." Train Ted looks at the girl and says "Hi, I'm Ted." Narrator Ted comes back I'm while Train Ted and "Mother" fade while talking excitedly with each other. Narrator Ted: "And kids, THAT'S how I met your mother."

That would pretty much satisfy me.

Robin being pregnant won't work. We already know from a flash forward that she never has kids of her own. I believe we also know that Marshall does indeed become a judge, tho that doesn't mean it's from this appointment.

They had a show where Robin learned she can't have children, and she doesn't end up having children.

I remember the doctor telling her she couldn't have kids, but I seemed to remember feeling like the flash forward was worded in a way that left them an out. Maybe not though. It worked in my head.

Any feedback on the season premier last night??

I enjoyed it.. I didn't find it overly funny, but I'm glad that they are wrapping everything up.
