The Town Drunk
Yeah I am in the 40ish range, but I only drink Coors Light so that probably equates to probably around 20 or so real drinks.
They might if they only considered the higher % and not the higher volume. Some might even say it's 1.6 standard drinks.
ETA: Not responsible for my math.
Yeah, the OP said units (a British term/unit) but pretty sure he meant standard drinks (USA! USA!)
I chose 5-10 in the poll (52 here), but it's closer to the 5 than the 10 these days. Usually 2 beers with our weekly dinner out, and a beer or three on Sunday afternoon while doing house chores / garage work.I drink one or two margaritas per week since age 40. Can't do the hangovers. From age 18 until about age 38 I was drinking 3 to 4 nights a week at bars. And I was having probably 6 beers at least each night out. Usually more.
Between 38 and 40, I probably drank 1 night a week and I would still drink a ton.
At age 40, I got tired of waking up with a hangover. The morning was no longer worth the night. I probably drink once or twice a year now.
Good to see you here.
I noticed this with my wife and I several years ago - we'd go in our pool on the weekend, and automatically, we'd have a full cooler of drinks and were pretty sloshed by the evening. We've curtailed that markedly (she hardly drinks at all these days - fatty liver, so she has 1-2 a week), but cutting back did feel really strange for awhile. On a side note, since I've pretty much become a teetotaler, I've noticed just how much some people can't do certain things without drinking. It's weird. I wouldn't call them alcoholics or anything even close. But they definitely seem addicted.

But they aren't.The psychological community calls these people alcoholics.
I know people who may drink 5 times a year. And that's because they play golf 5 times a year. They aren't alcoholics. But if you were to ask them to play and tell them they couldn't drink, they wouldn't play.Based on what?
I gotcha. So certain situations bring about drinking in them, kinda like going on vacation = more drinking. I assumed that their drinking was more consistent.I know people who may drink 5 times a year. And that's because they play golf 5 times a year. They aren't alcoholics. Yeah, I meant that it's weird that people need alcohol to do certain things. And I get what you're saying, too. I'm always blown away how it's become acceptable behavior for women to talk about how much wine they drink so they can deal with their kids and kids' activities. To me, they have a drinking problem. I couldn't imagine needing to be buzzed to deal with my kids.I gotcha. So certain situations bring about drinking in them, kinda like going on vacation = more drinking. That would be a cake walk for me. I drink 1 or 2 times a week. But it's usually 18 to 24.Seriously. That would be like a second job.
7-8 drinks everydayCome on.
This is my house too.Poke_4_Life said:I've really been thinking about taking some time off the bottle, but the wife and I both have a ton of work stress right now and neither of us can seem to quit. We both attempt to cut out Sun-Th nights almost every week, but then a crappy day at work for one of us changes those plans.
This isn’t far off where I was a year ago except it was wine in lieu of bourbon.Poke_4_Life said:Since I've changed to bourbon, it is hard to know how many units I'm getting. I'd say around half of an 8oz glass most nights, sometimes more but also 2ish nights a week w/out. So I'd estimate 28.
That may be on the high side, as I've been trying to moderate a bit. I'm 42 now. If I go to sleep too buzzed, I'll wake up in the middle of the night w/ a hangover and never get back to good sleep. Getting old sucks.

Wife is getting blood work done today (routine), changes may be coming soon.
This. Hadn't had a drink in over a month. Had nine last night. Mixed them, too. Six beers, two shots, and one glass of wine. Woah.Rarely drink anymore. Used to enjoy a beer 2-3x/week (so still <5 week). But, my answer above of 0 doesn't mean I don't drink.
I cant even drink that much waterThat would be a cake walk for me. I drink 1 or 2 times a week. But it's usually 18 to 24.
I drink that much water the next day. Usually to drunk to do it before I pass out.I cant even drink that much water![]()
Probably no room in your stomachI drink that much water the next day. Usually to drunk to do it before I pass out.
No, it's much better to chug water before I sleep and have room, I just don't remember. But the moment I come to, I am like, I should have chugged some water.Probably no room in your stomach![]()
Yup, hangovers aren't worth it for me too. Even when I do drink, I usually end up feeling like crap before going to bed. From age 18 until about age 38 I was drinking 3 to 4 nights a week at bars. And I was having probably 6 beers at least each night out. Usually more.

Username does not check out.Chose 5-10, but It fluctuates for me. I enjoy most alcoholic beverages but due to daughter's activities I do not want to put myself in a position where I have to transport her after I have consumed anything. Over the past 15-20 years or so drinking is more about complimenting meals than getting a buzz. Maybe a few glasses of wine (margaritas, beer, whatever) during the week, with maybe a few more on the weekend.
When summer hits...longer days, fewer commitments for daughter, and I bbq/grill more often. I will put on music and have a few in the backyard.
