How many votes will Christie lose by being in Jerry Jones' luxury (1 Viewer)

I think anyone who grew up with a frequent losing football team in their city knows you can stay loyal to your team and still root for another team as a backup in playoff time.

But I have a hard time understanding how someone can pull for a total, hated rival of your local team though. There are people out there who are both Giants fans and Cowboys fans? There are Eagles fans who are also Cowboys fans? I don't think so. Basically he must pull against the Giants and Eagles, which to me is incredible for the governor of NJ.
The New YORK Giants moved to East Rutherford when Christie was a teenager and still call themselves the New YORK Giants.....

Not sure I''d characterize them as "local."
He is also a self-described Rangers, Mets and Knicks fan. I just think it's odd he would pull for all NY teams.... and then for the Cowboys.

He has Curly Night's vote.

The further Cowboys advance in the playoffs, the more votes he'll gain in an election.

In the primaries it'll vary from state to state, and on how desperate some of the nuttier candidates are.

If there's people here who don't realize there's people in this country who take sports serious enough to change their vote based on which sports team a politician roots for, then you're as dumb as the people who change their vote based on which sports team a politician roots for.

Don't think it means nothing. Not saying it's a critical issue of the day, but as one candidate in a big field, it looks bad.

Acting like a Dallas superfan when you're supposed to be a New Jersey guy looks weird, like you're a bandwagoner. It reinforces the narrative that Christie will basically do whatever it takes to gain favor with the right people. Americans like their candidates to not act like they want the job too badly.

I think people saw that and thought "Oh, he loves the Cowboys all of a sudden?" It just doesn't look good. By itself it's nothing, but if there's enough out there to make a candidate unlikable...it affects their support.

I actually don't mind Christie, but that didn't make him look good to me. Sports fans (the ones watching that broadcast) take their team allegiances seriously. Maybe a bit too seriously. I don't think he's a Cowboys fan. I think he was kissing Jerry's behind. That's the part that doesn't look so good.
He's been known to be a Cowboy fan since he's been in office. He's never made a secret of it, despite being a "Jersey Guy". He does go see Bruce Springsteen all the time at least. ;)
You're right. I didn't know he was a lifelong Cowboys fan. Still don't think it looks good, but he seems to be a legit Dallas fan. That makes more sense.

Chris Christie Pushed Port Authority To Give Contract To Jerry Jones' Firm

Less than two years before Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones paid for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s tickets and travel to NFL games, government documents show Christie personally pushed the Port Authority to approve a lucrative contract for a firm part-owned by Jones. Christie nonetheless accepted the gifts from Jones, despite New Jersey ethics rules barring gifts to public officials from persons or entities that those officials “deal with, contact, or regulate in the course of official business.”

On March 19, 2013, Christie and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a press release announcing their selection of Legends Hospitality LLC to operate the observation deck on the top floor of One World Trade Center. The next day, the Port Authority board -- which is appointed by Christie and Cuomo -- specifically cited the governors’ announcement in voting to approve the contract for the company, which is jointly owned by the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees and Checketts Partners Investment Fund.

The Port Authority press release announcing the vote quotes Dallas Cowboys executive Jerry Jones, Jr. as saying: "We are humbled to have been chosen to operate the Observatory Deck."

The Wall Street Journal first reported the news that Jones has business with the Port Authority. That story followed an International Business Times report about how Christie’s acceptance of gifts from Jones may conflict with New Jersey ethics rules because the gifts followed Christie’s administration delivering big tax subsidies to the NFL.

After IBTimes’ report, Christie officials acknowledged that Jones paid for Christie’s travel and tickets to recent Cowboys games. They assert that the gifts are legal under a separate executive order that aims to exempt gifts from “personal friends” of the governor. Christie on Monday said he is considering attending the next Cowboys game in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

According to the Journal, Randy Levine, a board member of Legends Hospitality, said Jones was not involved in the negotiations with Port Authority for the observation deck contract. However, Levine said Jones’ family is a “significant” investor in the firm.

Not a Christie fan anymore and I'd be surprised if there was anything shadier than "normal" about the deal Jerry and Legends got at the WTC, but this is the type of digging you invite when you act like an idiot when considering a run at the presidency and you've already burnt all your goodwill with the media.

Christie is a political creature and he knows exactly what he is doing when it comes to these things, what he did on Sunday may have alienated him with his home-team but ingratiated him with the millions of Cowboy fans in Texas and all of their 38 electoral votes and the 7 electoral votes in Oklahoma not to mention the millions of (poser) Cowboy fans not residing in Texas.
NY and NJ have a combined 43 votes but a huge part of NJ are Philly fans and the NY vote gets split three ways between the Giants, Jets and Bills plus a bunch of Pats fans in upstate NY
The Cowboys have all of Oklahoma and an huge majority percentage of Texas. Simple math tells you that Captain Cheesecake make a strategic decision and for that we commend him especially considering that neither of his home teams show any loyalty to his state. Until the Jets of Giants decide to put an NJ on their helmets, the chief executive of the state of NJ should not have loyalty to either team

If Christie was worrying about winning Texas to the point where this was a "strategy", he is dumber than he looks.

Chris Christie's cankles are bigger than Hillary's, and his bra cup size is twice as big as hers, too. But her balls are three times as big as his, so it seems to balance out.

The strangest optic might have been when he was bouncing around trying to hug Jerry at the end of the game. That really looked, just contrived and awkward. I still don't understand why the Governor of NJ would want to associate so frequently with another team regardless of his aspirations for higher office. He was in the Dallas owner's box last week too. This certainly won't help him in his own state and his image as a tough guy when he's seen so frequently with his lips attached to some rich Texas clown's backside.
please, stop this.

Christie isn't going to win the nomination and I doubt he is much more than a marginal candidate if he does decide to run. He is way too fat to be President.

A year ago I thought Hillary was a lock to be our next President but now I'm coming around to her not winning. She looks old and non-Presidential and I think the fact that It is now out there that Bill ####ed underage girls on a billionaire's island will haunt her.

Romney must be kicking himself for not sitting out the last election and preparing for 2016.

A dead homosexual Republican would beat a living faithfully married Democrat in the states of Oklahoma and Texas - he was going to get those votes anyway so there is nothing "strategic" about it. He does need the votes in PA to win the Presidency and this is where is is a bit short-sighted. Eagles fans will remember.

Anyone who votes for a representative based on something like that should have their wiener frozen and then cut off.
He could not look less presidential than he did at that game. For that alone I would not vote for him.
Candidate Bill Clinton playing the saxophone and Barack Obama on Colbert Report would like to speak with you.
Not even close. John Kerry windsurfing is more in the ballpark. Or Mike Dukakis in the tank. Of course those guys lost ...

Last I recall, Christie needs to win the primary first so the states that are being discussed are actually quite critical.

What are the odds that if Christie goes to Green Bay this weekend he will borrow George Costanzas Gore Tex winter coat.
