It seems to me that Goodell is polarizing, in that many people have a definitive like or dislike of actions as commissioner. Looking back at how he has handled the lockout, rule changes, dishing out of suspensions and fines - do you tend to agree or disagree with his goals and methods?

Only problem I have with him is the reg season games overseas bull####. Oh yeah and the draft should still be on Sat afternoon.

his goals and methods are going to mean that the game does not get sued out of existence so wether i thing he is a punk or not does not matter because it means that i will still get to watch the nfl in 20 years assuming i make it there but hey just ask the guys around here who exist just to bash him and im sure they will have all the answers even though they have no idea what the nfl actually knows or has in its files or what the owners say at meetings etc but sure thing they know it all and it is just a personal decision why they choose to live in there mommys basement and not run fortune 500 companies yeah right jeez the game is as popular and financially strong as ever so he is doing his job too bad if you are a new orleans fan it does not mean he is not take that the no crybabys allowed bank fellow brohans

Translation:Goodell's objective is to protect the NFL, so my opinion doesn't really matter. Although many people feel his methods are harsh, particularly the Saints fans, there will always be people with less knowledge of the intricacies of the NFL that will question his actions. If you look at the popularity and financial aspects of the league, it appears that he is successful at keeping the NFL as the prime professional sports league.

I don't really give a crap about Goodell. I mean, he impacts my life in no significant way. You must listen to way much talk radio if Roger Goodell is getting your dander up. Unless you are employed by the NFL, just watch the games and enjoy.

I'm willing to bet that 99% of the anti's will vote Democrat this November.

ETA: Sorry. I meant this to point out that there is a lot of "us vs. the establishment" sentiment in this subject. Please don't address political potion of this post. It was a mistake on my part to post it as such.

The people who like Goodell the most (From what i have seen) are old white guys. I don't know why.

Personally I don't like him because he seems like a puppet of the owners and his idea of "Protecting the Shield" is a lot different than what ESPN says it means.

Like / dislike is not so great of a poll question.

-What is your opinion of him relative to Bud Selig and David Stern?

-What is your opinion of him relative to Paul Tagliabue and prior commissioners?

-Does he do a good job of managing the NFL as a money-making brand?

-Does he care about players and fans?

Now those are good questions.

Answer key:

-Selig and Stern are idiots relatively speaking.

-Goodell appears to be the best administrator the league has ever had in this position.

-See answer #2.

-Of course not. He cares about maximizing owners' profit margins. That's his job. Hello...you play to win the game.

It will be interesting to see how he navigates the so-called concussion crisis. The league had better get out in front of this.

With only about 30% of the votes falling on the extremes and the other almost 70% being the 3 more moderate positions, apparently he's not quite as "polarizing" as some believe. Not that this makes a bad post/poll, just noticed.

The only things that I care about from an administrative standpoint in the NFL is that 1) it remains very popular and 2) there is parity.

Goodell's done a great job maintaining those two things, so he's solid in my book.

Voted neutral.

I think where he's trying to go has been right for the most part. But he makes all sorts of needless mistakes before getting there.

Examples... the first blow-to-the-QBs-head rules a few years back where they over emphasized it and you had a lot of bad calls before they got it right. Then the defenseless player rules which again they over emphasize and create a lot of bad calls. In addition they were way, way, way too late in putting out the video showing players legal and illegal hits and explaining why they are illegal. After all the bad calls people were confused over what really is a very simple to understand rule.

Cleaning up the game, good. But then the inconsistency of the fines cause unnecessary friction with the players versus if they'd just set out clear guidelines early on.

Another example... the comments about the salary cap may be flat for the next few years. IIRC correctly they didn't actually come from Goodell, it was Robert Kraft and some other owners talking about that. Goodell needs to take Kraft into a back room and smack him upside his head. You don't go making a big public story out of something like that. All it will do is get the players upset. As PFT commented today, you want both sides to feel happy with the deal and that doesn't accomplish it. Goodell needs to rein in the owners too when that kind of thing happens.

The way some of the Saints bounty stuff has gone down, lack of supplying evidence, etc. Just dumb things that caused negative feelings with the players even though the overall thing Goodell was trying to accomplish was the right thing.

So overall, moving the right direction but not getting there very smoothly.

:lmao: This is right out of Airplane. "Excuse me sir, I speak Jive."

He's better than his peers in the NHL, NBA and MLB. I think he's overstepped at times, but it could be lot worse. Like Gary Bettman, David Stern, or Bud Selig worse.
