How to Stop Robo Spam Calls? (1 Viewer)

I'll probably jinx myself but I've had pretty much 0 on either of my cell phones in a long time

I get ~5-10 a day but it’s a company phone so I give my number out a lot.

I tend to just answer and have small talk. I ask where they’re at and how’s the weather? Some play along, a few yell obscenities and hang up.

soldoMy god did someone flip a switch, have had 10+ last two days.
Noticed that they do arrive in waves at times. 4 or 5 a day in a short time span. Other days just one or two.
I theorize that my personal contact information got sold to someone else when we get a lot of calls.
We also have a land line that we were required to have for our elevator. That line is never used or given out as a contact number. It’s never answered as well. That phone only rings about once every two weeks.

Not a mobile number. It's my land line work number that is posted / listed on hundreds of sites, search engines, and directories. Don't really want to get a new phone number.

One thing that has anecdotally worked in the past is putting the three-beep disconnect tone at the start of my answering machine message. That do-doo-DOO series of tones. You apparently don't need the rest of the "I'm sorry..." message, you can follow it with your own "Anarchy99 can't get to the phone right now, please leave a message at the beep" after the two second do-doo-DOO. The rumor is that auto-dialers and spam calling computers will disconnect and remove your number from their database upon hearing the tones, their computers don't listen to the voice part of the recording. Humans, though, might be initially confused for a few seconds but they'll hear your voice and continue with the call. Do it for a week or two maybe and switch back and see if calls are reduced.

Otherwise, yeah, some kind of spam filtering/forwarding might be necessary.
I did this a few months ago and 🤞 it somewhat worked. I'm now down to maybe a couple of calls a day to a few a week. That's from a regular high of 9-12 calls a day. It didn't happen overnight but based only on that change calls have definitely slowed down. I recorded the double do-doo-DOO and didn't leave a personal message. For me it was not painful as I only have a few personal contacts that needed to know that was a fake out, I don't use this phone for business.

Oof, these things have really amped up over the past month or so. I get 7-8 calls a day now, and I'm pretty sure it's the same a-holes. They spoof numbers from the same prefix, don't usually leave a message but sometimes they do and it sounds like a call center and they don't say anything before hanging up. I already have unknown numbers silenced, but it's gotten so bad where I am blocking these numbers too, even if they may never call from the same effing number again. Absolute scum of the Earth.

I have a google pixel phone and my "assistant" does a great job of screening these calls. I have people call me and laugh at me about my assistant if the call comes through, but I get very few to no "spam calls" anymore.

I broke down and paid for hiya. Works Great

I'm guessing Android does this too but iPhone allows you to silence all calls not from a number in your address book and they go to voice mail.

This may not work if you need to receive calls from people you don't know. But it works well for me.
Exactly what I do and if it is from someone I need to speak to that is not in my contacts they always leave a VM and I call them back.

I get zero spam bothering me. Straight to VM

**** off.

Yeah, I’ve dealt with this too. Blocking numbers doesn’t work since they keep changing. What helped me was using my phone’s built‑in spam filter and reporting numbers when I could. At my job, we use call center software that automatically spots weird calling patterns and blocks them — it’s impressive how much that cuts down spam.

I'm still using Nomorobo.

It's flawless on my VOIP Landline, which is a free service from Nomorobo. We get almost zero solicitations on that line. It used to be constant, 2-3x a day. Now it's not bad.

I also pay for their iPhone service ($19/year). It's pretty good, but within the last year or so, I've started getting more solicitation calls. To be fair, they are never robo-calls. They are real solicitors. Usually political surveys or crap like that. I'm with some folks above at this point - if you're not in my contact list, or clearly a number I'm expecting a call from, I just don't answer my cell phone. All the people that matter text me most of the time anyway.

I have started getting political texts on the regular - probably 2-3/week. I always Junk/Block them on my iPhone, but I wish there was a way to stop getting those. It's kind of crazy how much political crap I get given I'm registered as an independent and actively avoid most any conversation on politics.

i like to answer and say please hold for the next available operator and then i start doing mouth trumpet to them sometimes it is a peppy little jazz number or if i am in the mood i will ask them to please rise and remove thier hat and then hit them with a mouth trumpet star spangled banner and an oh canada just because i like our spicy little neighbor to the north take that to the bank brohans

On your iphone go to settings

Search phone

Select phone app

Scroll all the way down and select “silence all incoming unknown calls”

They will all go straight to voicemail. Anything not in your contacts are silenced and you will never be bothered.

If it’s a legit call they will leave you a voicemail.

Otherwise ***k off.

Those that get through is that because they manually dialed you?

Appreciate the feedback.
We run our business off our phones, it amazes me how many people call and don’t leave a message. If I have a missed call and it is not spam, I’ll call back and find out it was a legit prospect looking for a quote. Frustrating, I’m sure they’ve been burned before by leaving a message, so they are like why bother.

That’s right. A legit business will leave you a message. If they are just dialing for dollars….they move on and no VM.

I just like being in complete control of the phone call and more importantly not be inundated with robo/spam/scam calls.

And scams like high level scams leave messages and boy the entertainment value I get from those are amazing.

The last one I got on Spring Break 2025 was epic.

“Yes hello Mr Todem…..this is the Manatee county sheriffs office and your son was arrested here in Daytona Beach…..you need to give us a call to wire his bail as he is in a detainee cell. Please call us at

My Dad, sister and stepmother got the same message.

Someone hacked my dads phone.

I called the so called Sheriff back and really had fun with him.

I noticed the political texts mostly came from 3 area code/ prefix combinations so I did a wildcard block on those and that stopped most political texts and calls.

And how about all the Catfish texts?? I get them almost daily.
I get those too - and they are honestly oddly on-point. I was on vacation, fishing daily, and I got one from "Amber" that just said, "When are we going fishing?" A few weeks later, while at my son's football game, I get, "Want to come over for the game?" from some other female name.

I would assume so...or they aren't on Nomorobo's list. Their list is pretty well updated, but I do think it's very specific to robodialers.

I'm going to have to look for this...I don't think I have any contacts in a 3XX area code.

Now that has not happened to me......that is freaking creepy.....they are pinging your phones location. WTF is that?

I'm convinced some day down the road we're going to find out just how deeply our phones actually track us. I've had way too many "coincidences" with my phone for anyone to ever tell me otherwise. I randomly was talking about barn door style doors for our bathroom to my wife the other day, and the next time I open Facebook, I have ads for barn door hardware. Sorry man - you can't tell me that's a coincidence. I get monitoring your browser history, but I never looked up barn door hardware - only spoke about it.

I don’t know how it works but geo fencing advertising might be involved. Long story short, we put on an event in a park, Marketing team put a geo fence in place so that people would see our ads in their browsers on the mobile browsers if they entered the park.
