Actually I had several gift cards and recently bought the movies Unforgiven, Outlaw Josey Wales, and Pale Rider, but yes, I hadn't used any of my Amazon gift cards for two years until then.  I only had about $70 worth total.  I had $25+ and used $24 on the TP.

Angry old man schtick?  How is that?  Just because I think it's stupid for people to hoard TP and make it almost impossible to buy for everyone else,  isn't old man schtick.

 
Frighteningly, lots of people are apparently still not taking this very seriously. 

I'm getting concerned about the NFL season barring an unlikely anti viral drug or a vaccine breakthrough that somehow doesn't need rigorous testing... 

 
Schools cancelled thru at least the end of April now. Here in Oregon. Apartment building behind us is crazy. Police had the place surrounded all night with a bullhorn two nights ago. Tonight there are dozens fighting there right now. It's Friday night every night now. And only day 2 of having the kids home every day. Are actually in danger of running out of toilet paper and people in the neighborhood are putting together support groups and such. 

Watched Contagion today. Check it out. I really hope we avoid the riots part.

The Los Angeles Times' Sam Farmer reports that the 2020 NFL Draft will no longer be held in Las Vegas due to the coronavirus.

Farmer reports that the NFL's plan now is to have "some type of studio setting with cut-ins from the headquarters of the teams making the selection at a given time" come time for the draft from April 23-25. The NFL thus far has responded to the current global pandemic in an almost stubborn way even as every other sport has essentially shut down. Free agency started as scheduled and as of yet there are no apparent plans to move the actual date of the draft -- this despite the fact that face-to-face team meetings with players and pro days are both no longer in operation. Given that the draft itself is generally so much spectacle, it's fair to wonder just what a three-day studio show covering seven rounds and 255 picks might actually look like in terms of an entertainment vehicle for viewers.

They should just do the draft via video conference, including interviews with players and draft gurus.  That would still make for TV viewing IMO.

I would be too.  Wouldn't mind adding some time between picks (especially the late rounds) just to draw it out longer.  

 
Assuming we don't have a delay in the season I think the best case scenario right now is teams can hit training camp on time.

So for fantasy impact I'm going to slightly downgrade players in this order:

1. Rookie WR's

2. Teams with new OC's that run different systems

3. Teams with new QB's but this is a little case by case. I can see Brady for example arranging for teammates to come work out with him plus he'll grasp a new system quicker then most. Could be tough on a guy like Burrow if he's expected to step into the job week one.

4. Rookie RB's very slight downgrade but not a ton.

Also I expect we are going to see a lot of players report in horrible shape, just can't know who they will be yet. Some players have sweet home gyms, some continue to have access to training centers but not all of them have these things available to them plus they won't report for off-season checkups.  And consequently I expect soft tissue injuries to be massive next year.

 
I'm leaning toward no 2020 season.  Hard to imagine coming through this, in this country, in 4 or 5 months.  Not just coming through but being confident the risks have passed.  Hope I'm wrong.

I'd have to agree, assuming no eureka type drug/treatment is found. Right now it's looking like the US will be a piece-meal style effort where this thing just rolls from city to city then back again. It's like my house during flu-season with 3 kids - everything seems to pass from one to the next and then we start the cycle over again. 

 
There's a point where a very bad recession which threatens a depression is worse than the coronavirus. I think 5 months from now would be well beyond that threshold.

No, there isn’t. Government going to have step up. It will be ugly but it’s the only choice.

Add me to those who think this is going to be here a long time, that there isn't going to be a season, and am adjusting both my real life and fantasy football ones accordingly.  The life part is incredibly difficult.

There definitely is. People die of stuff other than coronavirus. How many people do you think died directly because of the economic collapse of 1929? 

The government can step up and it will, it can work short term. But I think you're being naive if you think there's no risk of an economic depression from shutting down most of the economy for 5+ months.

 
I would rather hope for the best and that our world’s smartest will come up with a vaccine by next winter and if it is a seasonal disease that is greatly reduced as the weather gets warmer.

I didn’t say there’s no risk of a depression.

i said shutting things down is the only choice. You’re being naive for even considering the alternative.

 
On one hand I'm optimistic that these shutdowns and "social distancing" measures will prevent the worst from happening. On the other hand, I don't think people are taking this serious enough and I don't trust them to do what needs to be done. The next few weeks will be critical as more and more people are being tested and with more and more cities locking it down. We will know soon where we really are at. The biggest problem is that they are anticipating multiple waves of the infections. I'm concerned about the NFL season because it sounds like a vaccine won't be ready by then. That being said, there are a lot of smart people working on medications that may help the situation. 

As of right now, It's unknowable if the NFL season will be cancelled. It will definitely be affected in a major way.

Maybe we aren't understanding each other.

The lockdown, if that's what you want to call it, is currently very prudent. Reasons are abundant. But, the consequences of a lockdown which would last until September, by my estimation would exceed those of the coronavirus. Maybe I'm wrong, but I guess we will see in 5 months. 

 
Scouting departments will be adversely affected because they won't be able to get out to verify information.

With fewer people in the building the ubiquitous media leaks 'should' dry-up.  

The result 'should' be more 'surprise' picks like what we saw of the Raiders last year when they canned the scouting department before the draft and no one could get any information on what Mike Mayok was going to do at the top of the draft.

This is possible and maybe the best case scenario. There is a ton of money involved here so I would expect a lot of push for something like this. The problem will be if players and staff get infected leading up to the season this will be a non starter.

 
2020 Tokyo Olympics scheduled for July 24-August 9 postponed to likely 2021.

Last year by July 24th almost every single team had reported to training camp.

My worry meter for the season going down just went up considerably.

 
I don't know if anyone can corroborate but I've heard they are taking seniors off ventilators in Italy and Spain and prioritizing the younger. 

So far the trend in the United States has mirrored and even outpaced Italy in terms of new cases and deaths each day. Everyone says we're about a week behind Italy.

There is a good chance this thing is about to explode here as well. Hospitals may be overrun making decisions between which age group gets treatment for several months. 

Millions could die.

I'm praying I'm wrong. Increased testing capacity could theoretically get a lot of people back to work.

 
I honestly made a dynasty trade with a player acknowledging the possibility that there wouldn't be a season this year or maybe next.  This was two days ago.

The situation in Italy is really not good.They have an absolutely excellent health care system, yet they have been at breaking point in certain hospitals for days on end. They have also been on lockdown for almost two weeks, yet the figures continued to spiral. As more people have died, there have been more cases of younger people without underlying health issues, being critical in hospital, and dying. Perhaps there is a glimmer of hope as numbers have gone down the last two days. Let’s see if that’s a pattern that continues. 
 

Here in the UK, we are pretty much matching the Italian rate except 14 days behind and we don’t have as many ICU beds as them. We have been too slow to lock the country down in the last week, with too many people taking the piss at the weekend there. Finally, tonight it seems like we are in pretty much lockdown for at least the next 3 weeks.

So many other countries have followed suit. 
 

I have to say I’m pretty concerned for the US. Extremely weak and irresponsible continued denials from POTUS for weeks and I have absolutely zero faith in the guy at all to lead through a crisis. He is a complete moron. 
 

I fear the message isn’t getting through to enough people in the US, that the leadership has been way too weak so far in terms of rules to protect the public, and that the fractured nature of your political/law system with state, federal etc means huge variance from state to state. I also fear for the poorer parts of your society and how they will get through this if it spreads. 
 

I can honestly see it spreading like wildfire in the US cities and being out of control because the necessary measures simply weren’t put in place quickly enough. 
 

I hope all the US posters on here, of which it’s most of you, stay safe. Even if your government isn’t fully enforcing it yet, go into lockdown as best you can. If you can in anyway work from home, do it. Only leave the house for food/medicine. 
 

This virus is deadly in its spreading because you can be asymptomatic for a full week and be contagious and giving it to thousands of people. 
The only chance we’ve got to come through this in a matter of 3-4 months and somehow be on an upward curve, is absolute lockdown as best as we can worldwide ASAP. 
 

I say this as someone who is a self employed live sport cameraman, and film cameraman, who has seen my entire diary from March to August completely wiped out, no safety net of a salary and 100% of my work gone.

Not saying nfl will happen but it’s not apples to apples. Olympic qualifiers needed to get going right now.

It's also world travel by a ton of people at a time where that still seems unwise. The NFL is US only and has far less travel by fans, while teams already use private/charter flights. NFL teams could play empty stadiums, as well, and lean on that hefty TV revenue.

This.  What people don't get is that when there is a working vaccine developed it requires phased scaled up testing in order to make sure it is safe. 

What's worse than Coronavirus?  Giving everyone a vaccine that has even worse effects.  The nothing to lose comments coming from a certain very public idiot are idiotic.
