How would you handle this situation? (1 Viewer)

Chet doesn't buy 2014 Corollas.  I thought it was Ferrari wheels the moment I saw the OP.

I agree with Belljr.  He's bluffing to see if you'll match. If you tell him thanks but no thanks, he'll come back and say he'll honor your original deal.  That's when you say "great, so that's $6500, right?"

If true, can’t blame the guy. Sucks but it’s more money and much easier than having to ship them.
Naw man. A deal is a deal.

You do the right thing - every time. Not sometimes. Not when it’s convenient. Every single damn time.

After you sleep with his wife, you go scorched earth on him.  Sign him up as a male escort, hang him in effigy, set a box of turds on fire on his porch - assuming this lowlife has a porch.  Finally, put him in a room with that dolt of a CEO that runs CYDY for a month.  Dr. Nick Riviera or whatever.  You cannot let the bad guys win, Chet.

A lot of us thought “wheels” meant car, not actual wheels 💰

Really?

I immediately assumed wheels.

Part of it was, this is Chet.  Part of it was, the seller agreeing to shipping - which would have been a pretty serious wedge to cover from someone selling a car for $7500...
Plus, Chet's original post clearly said "a set of wheels". While I wouldn't put it past Chet to buy a set of Ferrarri's, it seemed pretty obvious what he was talking about.

I’m just happy knowing I can afford a set of Ferrari wheels. I have no shot at owning the car to put them on, but I can afford the wheels.

I guess I can't fathom spending $7500 on actual wheels. My mind jumped to "wheels=car." I was wondering what kind of car Chet might be buying for that price, but I figured it could be a charity thing or something.

My response:
Your response is polite and respectful—frankly—probably too polite and respectful imo.  A person is only as good as their word.  You guys negotiated on and agreed to a deal. The ONLY reason why you didn’t pay is because the seller was away and not in a position to ship you the good until he returned.  That is no fault of yours—and it doesn’t sound like he asked for a good faith deposit from you.   The fact that he was still fielding offers on an item after he agreed to sell it is insulting and unprofessional.  It might be a red flag that maybe he’s a person that is not worthy or can be trusted with your business anyway.    What was his response and how did the situation end up playing out?

I PMed him Friday evening and haven't heard back yet.

That’s probably for the best.  If you don’t end up with the wheels—I think you can safely say that you avoided doing a deal with somebody that engages in sketchy business practices at best.  If you do end up getting the wheels at your negotiated price—you end up getting the product you wanted at the price you wanted.  Both of those outcomes are decent—so I think you ended up playing things right.
