***Howard Stern*** (1 Viewer)

They better get on the ball with putting together a replacement show or they will lose a ton of listeners. I wish there were more options for talk radio in the morning but Howard's ego won't let them put anything opposite him.
I think there immediate focus is making sure that the company is around in 2009.

I put the odds around 50/50 of them making to the end of Stern's contract.

I'm not sure the odds are any better that they make it out of 2009.

Sirius is in real bad shape huh? I see their stock is horrid. Would be a disaster to see them close up shop.

I think Howard is done. He doesn't want to be there anymore -- you can tell during the news.

Could they carry on with a shell of the show? Gary, Fred, maybe Artie, and Sal and Richard? It wouldn't be like it is now, but probably better than mastertape re-runs.

when they did the hot chick comedian thing, I pulled up the picture while listening. none of them were hot (red head looked a little slutty tho). Was funny to listen to them go on and on about them tho.

The show is garbage. All-time low right now and I don't think it's coming back. Howard is a piece of crap if you ask me. Got his half billion and mailed it in. Lost a lot of respect for him. He rushes EVERYTHING - the best think about the show in the 90's/early 00's was when 2 staff members would get into a fight. Howard would egg it on for sometimes 2 hours during the show and go way over time. He's even doing his best to wrap up the in fighting when it occurs which is one of the most entertaining things about the show just so he can get out of the studio and get in his limo to head back home.I am no longer a subscriber and the main reason is the Stern show. F'n awful

The show is garbageHoward is a piece of crapSorry if I disagree. It's definately not what it was and it's clear Howard is on his way out but no real fan of the show would use those words. I don't know what your motive is but I'm not buying it.I still love the show and laugh every day. I hope he doesn't retire but suspect he will.He deserves to ride off into the sunset as the greatest radio show ever. It's clear he's done and I think he'll end it after this contract.

I've listened to Stern off and on for almost 20 years now. It's still a good show sometimes, although I agree with the more recent posters who think Stern's been mailing it in. As I've said before, ironic as it is, the worst two parts of the show now are Howard and Robin.

I really, really urge everyone to check out Ron and Fez, noon to 3 on Ch. 202. Same sort of wacky supporting cast that Stern's well known for, lots of long-form conversations about "guy stuff" (movies, music, sports, how much of the world's population you could beat up), and Ronnie B is probably the funniest person I've ever heard on any radio show. His spiel on how he was hoping Heath Ledger's daughter should accept his Best Actor award in Joker make-up (I won't give away the punchline) had me laughing like an idiot on the street.

Even though they follow O&A, I think they'd appeal to a lot of Stern listeners. They're a very different show.

They were on XM, so I guess they're on Sirius/XM now. I procure their show through, ahem, other means, so I'm not sure how you find them if you have a Sirius unit.

they are on Sirius 197, The Virus. O and A in the AM, Ron and Fez in the midday, then the replay of O and A

I still listen to the show and even have Howard OnDemand. But I do agree the show has really gone downhill the past year and a half.

Howard works only four days a week yet still seems like he can't wait to get out of there. It's such a buzzkill for the audience.

The lack of talent that Howard employes is pretty despicable too. He could shell out an extra mill/year and hire some great writers. Instead he pays peanuts to Sal, Richard and Benji. You'd think the guy would want to go out on top. My only explanation is I think he just threw in the towel because he knew Sirius/XM was toast. Why waste the money.

I would't be surprised to see him come back for one more run on terrestrial radio. Go out with a bang.

I think Gary makes at least 500k maybe even 750k. Artie wouldn't be perturbed if Gary was only making 250k. He's obvioulsly upset because Gary makes nearly as much as him yet isn't on air the whole time.

The one thing that makes me think Howard is a SOB is that Fred said he can't retire yet if the show ended. That is insane to me. He should have 5mill in the bank. I wouldn't be surprised if Fred was only making 250k a year until Sirius. Then maybe 500k/year. Just Howard being the miser that he really is.

Howard does this every negotiation - "I'm done with radio" - it makes the company panic and he gets a huge deal.

IMO - if Sirius survives - he cuts a deal with them - I see a 2 year extension with a move to.....afternoons. With replays there really is no need for him to be up at 4am and that is the worst part of his job. I think that switch could energize the show because it is clear that he is tired and just wants to get out of there now - which I can't kill the guy since he has been getting up at 4am for 25 yrs - I'd be sick of it too!

I see pm shows for a few yrs then eventually a once a week show or ISD line show - I dount he goes terrestrial but I can't see him giving up that audience completely. His ego and wallet couldnt take it.

It was just a huge downward progression since Sirius...Remember when it was going to be 3 Channels? Loaded with programming.Remember when Howard was going to be working on TONS of new stuff (i.e. The Bitter Half - we got one episode of that?) TONS of new program - REALLY big things in the work?Remember when Howard was ONLY going to take a Friday off here and there?Remember when Howard was going to work at least a few Fridays, just for his fans?Remember when Howard said "I don't work Fridays"?Remember when instead of the Friday show we at least got a well produced show hosted by Gary of topical clips from past shows, big time fights, hilarious bits, etc and then we switched it "Mastertape Theater" where they do nothing but throw a tape on from any time period they please where 1 hour of the show is funny and 3 hours are so old and outdated, they are a complete bore fest.Remember when Howard used to allow the show to move at it's own pace and get out of there at 11:30, 11:00, 10:45, 10:30, 10:15?Remember when Howard barely ever took vacation - oh wait, nevermind - bad example. The show is unlistenable to anyone that's been around for a long time listening to Howard. I only go back 15 years or so, but it's unlistenable to me now.
I cant argue with any of that...but what else are you going to listen to? Sportsradio is repetitive and commercials every few minutes and the other imitator shows are lousy.

I hear you. For long time fans its like marrying a really hot chick and then watching her gain 10 lbs of weight every year before you wake up one morning and realize you are screwed
good analogy - but sometimes - once in a while - its good enough where you can close your eyes and remember the old days!

I agree with you that the show doesn't nearly meet the expectations set at the beginning and you didn't even mention the increasing volume of commercials. That said, I've tried other morning shows and they don't entertain me the way the Stern show does. I find the shows just as good if not better than the K-rock days.Since my commute is now only 20 minutes, I'm probably going to bail on Sirius soon - maybe if I didn't catch the same darn portion of the show every night I'd reconsider. I'll probably go podcasts & music to make my commute go by. There's no going back to terrestrial radio.

Ron and Fez, noon to 3.

From bits and pieces from shows I figure the following:Gary $750KFred $900KArtie: $1.5MRobin $2.5MHowever I was referring to the underlings like Jason, JD, Sal, Richard, Teddy - all of which make very low salaries. Not to mention the tons of underlings and interns we never even heard of - employees like those looked forward to a gift from Howard every year. He would give watches, jackets, radios, etc - now they lose out because its a hassle for him. Bad move in my opinion - makes him look cheap and unappreciative.
Wasn't it Gary who said he made 850k last year from the stock market alone? I don't think he's a professional stockbroker on the side, and he must make more than 750k to get that kind of principal. And I'm so sure Artie makes at least twice that. I read somewhere and it may be way off but his NJ house is worth $8 million? Point is, I think you are way underestimating the power that Robin especially has against Sirius when they give Howard Stern $150 million a year. I wouldn't be surprised if Robin made $10-15 million

stiletto down?

For some reason I remember them saying a good while back that Gary made $1 million/year.

Edit: I think maybe it was during the Gary roast, but obviously that could have been a joke

Right, I'm not saying Gary is a multimillionaire from his job, but usually when people say the make a million dollars, it is just a statement that they are a millionaire. No one really says that they make $3 million per year, because after taxes and all their personal expenses, they may be left with more like $1 million. This sounds convoluted and probably is only making sense in my own mind, but there is a sort of bell curve to people saying they make $1 million per year from their job. People that make 950k/ year may say they are a millionaire to play up their gross monetary worth, while people making less than $3.5 million may say they are making a million a year because that is all that they are liquid for. My point is, a million dollar per year job is just sort of an expression.

Does everyone forget that a ton of that $500 million dollar deal was Sirius stock and options? He probably will be lucky to see 100 million from the deal, when it's all said and done.

They have the WORST taste in women. This is Arbor.

She's no 10, but she's definitely not  worthy.
Man-ish face and a plastic body. I don't care how cute her hoo-ha is, they should not have been fawning over her the way they were. I was expecting some hot little Lexi Belle type considering the way "cute" was thrown around.
Not disputing any of that... Still she isn't worthy of a :X . She's an everyday 7.

I thought that he had 34 million shares that he sold in 2006 for like 220 million dollars.
That's what I thought too. So it sounds like his deal became $720 million.

No, the 220 was basically part of the original $500 million. I think that the $500 million was based on the stock price at the time the deal was signed, thought the article claims that the actual sale pushed the total deal to like $600 million because the stock went up.

glad to hear Bubba is back, now we get to hear 2 years of them complaining about working too much.....

got an email this morning from a buddy of mine who lives on the UWS

On another topic, here's this week's installmentof things I love about NYC: I go to pet a cool English bulldog out on a walk, like I did tonight on my way to the corner deli, because I love dogs. And I look up and who's holding the leash but the hottest six-foot blonde you've ever seen in your life. Oh my god, she was RIDICULOUSLY smoking. So I stand there with my tongue hanging out, petting the bulldog, and her boyfriend, who towers over both of us and looks like Slash from G'N'R in a top hat eand everything, laughs and tells me to enjoy the view. And that's what I love about NYC this week: the city's abundance of absolutely top-shelf trophy wife talent. Later, after I'd thought about it a while, I figured out who this particular trophy was - Beth Ostrosky. I'll let you figure out ho her supplier of funds is - hint: he's in radio. Now back to the reality of my pitiful life/existence.

I remember getting a hold of my father's copy of US Open Sores and just wearing it out.

Probably the best thing Stern has ever done
