Whatever happened to Offen?  Did he just become too aggressive and belligerent to be invited back?  Riiiiiiiiiight?
dawgshed claims he punched a hole in the wall of a Sirius hallway.

Interesting story from his earlier life.

August 21, 1988Man Held in Light Bulb and Sunglasses FraudBy PETER KERRThe target was ''Tex-Moishe,'' a swindler of sunglasses, a master predator of packaging tape, a brigand who fleeced his way up and down the East Coast, stealing millions from merchants of light bulbs.Until a suspect was arrested Friday, the police said, he was known as the most brilliant swindler in the world of pedestrian products. And although the army of detectives on his trail in recent months had never seen his face, they knew him by the two voices he used - one of a Texan, the other of a New Yorker whose talk was dotted with Yiddish.''This guy was very different from anything we had ever encountered,'' said Lieut. John E. Kelly, the commanding officer of the special frauds squad of the New York City Police Department, which at times had assigned as many as 25 detectives, 15 vehicles and a helicopter to the light bulb investigation.''He was very, very cautious,'' Lieutenant Kelly said. ''He had a tremendous amount of discipline. He ran complex operations all around the country and he seemed to be working alone.''On Friday afternoon, the police arrested a man they identified as Elliot Keith Offen, 35 years old, at a telephone booth at the corner of 58th Street and Seventh Avenue, where they said he was attempting to consummate one of dozens of illegal deals he had conducted in recent years. The deals, Lieutenant Kelly said, had earned Mr. Offen more than $15 million.Mr. Offen, according to charges filed against him, would convince manufacturers of such products as light bulbs, tape, sunglasses or luggage to provide large shipments to him on consignment. He would represent himself as the head of a legitimate company in their industry, and ask for 30 days to pay for the goods. He would quickly sell the products to an unsuspecting buyer, and then disappear before the manufacturer could find him.His operation involved the use of almost a dozen telephone answering services around the country and relationships with more than 50 shippers and warehouse companies from Little Rock, Ark., to New York City. The police have found no evidence so far that other businesses involved in his operations were aware they were contributing to an illegal enterprise. Used Telephones to Make DealsMr. Offen rarely would meet anyone himself, choosing instead to put together deals from pay telephones, using as many as 50 aliases and several disguised voices, he said. The case broke in New York on May 11 when Detective Brian Smith began investigating the theft of about $30,000 worth of light bulbs from the General Electric Company in Maspeth, Queens, the lieutenant said.Mr. Offen arranged for a second shipment of light bulbs valued at $100,000. The police set up a trap, but the suspect escaped by not showing up to collect the merchandise. 'Would Burn the Operation'''If he felt something was wrong he would burn the operation,'' Lieutenant Kelly said. After three months of investigations, the police recruited more than a half dozen companies, including truckers and warehouses from Arkansas to New Jersey and convinced Mr. Offen that 250,000 light bulbs were making their way on consignment to him in New York.Over the last week, the businessmen at each company received calls from the suspect. Mr. Offen was arrested Friday after the police traced a telephone call he made to a businessman on 42d Street.Mr. Offen was charged with grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, larceny, attempted grand larceny, criminal impersonation and served with a warrant for interstate flight to said.Lieutenant Kelly said the detectives working on the light bulb case had regarded the arrest with particular relief. With each setback, he said, they had been chided by colleagues working on more formidable cases with the question, ''Watt? Watt? Watt?''http://www.nytimes.com/1988/08/21/n...lb-and-sunglasses-fraud.html?pagewanted=print

Thought this was worth a watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyCrxSqrtbs

Fights on video only from the Stern show over the years (Offen, Beetlejuice vs Iron Shiek, Benza vs Jon, etc etc)
Great video.  Love how Beet was ready to step to Sheik.

I miss all that drama.  The show his gotten stale and just relies on Howard's interviews anymore.  The Artie days were the pinnacle,  IMO.

Larry, I remember seeing offen punch the wall.  I think that was his last appearance.  http://youtu.be/pDYtxUJ9pV4

I'm sure I've posted this before, but if you loved Eric The Midget like I did, or hated him: this link; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVSziLuiE6I is just his heydey with the show.  The American Idol show he did, the Kendra saga, the ack ack, just everything that made him great happened in the first half of 2008.  Play it while you're commuting, working, working out.  It's fantastically hilarious stuff

I finally got it together and signed up for the internet package.  I had previously been getting shows through, um, "other means", but this on demand feature with commercial-free shows is pretty ###### sweet.

Question: It looks like the oldest show up now is 4/25.  That was the case prior to today's show being put up.  How long do they usually keep the shows up?

I get that Howard knows/cares absolutely ZERO about sports, but I still thought it was pretty hilarious that he thought an adult moving to a new city should automatically start rooting for that city's team.

I know his "anything I don't like is stupid" routine is at least a little bit schtick, but this was a bit much.

So it seems marksfriggin.com is now a repository of vitally relevant national political information. Reporters mining it for accounts of on the record Trump sexual transgressions

What has he been saying about this trump thing the past year? Especially this week?
From what I've heard over the year, he's re-iterated that he is and always has been a Hillary supporter.  He's never really bashed Trump, but certainly finds it amusing.  He's said that he's spoken with Trump a couple of times and that at first Stern thought it was a goof, but at some point thought he was really serious (this was several months ago).  They've had many Trump impersonator bits (including the awesome Trump vs. Bernie show, with James Adomian and Anthony Atamanuik).  He also mentioned how funny it was when he was watching the first debate and had his name brought up (I'm sure his ego loved it too).

It's been interesting how little Howard has gotten involved with the election. He's a big Hillary fan and always has been but is also friends with Trump. There has clearly been a decision by the show to not really bring the election up too much. He's conflicted in how to react to it. I can't imagine him not voting for Hillary but the silence makes we wonder. He hasn't really addressed it directly but it has to happen soon.

Not to mention how much bad press he's been getting as transcripts of the old trump convos come out - it's a pretty different persona than the new A list Interviewer he's been for the last 5-6 years.

Lol at bad press

in Howard's line of business there is no such thing
Yeah, I'm not really sure that the press has really been bad for Howard and I agree that ultimately he prefers the attention regardless.  But I do think there is a part of him that is a little embarrassed by some things he's done in the past and that he would prefer a different image at this point in his career.

Though of course he does continue to do impressions of his parents engaging in wild sexual acts (including involving himself with his mother) so, ya know...

Not sure if the following is true or if anyone even cares, but what the hell.  There is a reddit user called ASiriusProblem who is supposedly connected with the show and has been posting a lot of behind the scenes stuff.  The reddit thread is annoying to read, but this is the summary from someone on dawgshed.  No idea how to know what is really real, but the Jon Hein suspension timeline absolutely checks out.

Yes, Marci [Turk] is dating Steve Brandano- It has actually led to complaint to Sirius HR over Brandano getting preferential treatment.Jon Hein is unhappy and was suspended for a time from wrap up- "He bashes the show a lot. #####es about the horrible booking of guests (this goes back 8-10 years worth of complaining) and lately it's the lame bits. He's resentful for the time his on air hosting privileges were taken away and given to Leiberman. This was done as punishment and him being briefly suspended for letting a conversation happen on the wrap up show that he shouldn't have let go down." Also, the staff resents Hein for contributing nothing creatively to the show. Here is another quote fromASiriusProblem on Hein's suspension- "I was told it's because Katharine McPhee was on the wrap up show and someone called in asking about her banging Mary McCormack's husband. Mary called Gary or Howard screaming about letting the call come in and Jon not stopping the conversation. Jon H's hosting duties were taken away from him and the next day is when Leiberman started hosting it for the week. I heard Jon H just sat in the back office moping like a baby while Leiberman took over the hosting duties."Chuck Zito has been banned from the show- "Zito showed up at the birthday show without an invite. Ross Zapin told the doormen and SIRIUS staff not to let him in. He even hid behind the door so Chuck wouldn't see him - he didn't have the balls to go out and tell Chuck why. Shortly after Chuck left, Ross and his crew were out on the street handing out tickets to anyone walking by."The ban on talking to Artie is real- ASiriusProblem claims that a big meeting was held where Gary told the entire staff that talking to former staff members is now forbidden. This really happened, not just paranoia on Artie's part. "Apparently after the news of Jon H being suspended got leaked, the #### hit the fan and everyone was screamed at. Now that the news of Marci dating Brandano is starting to come out and that Marci is in trouble with HR, they are scrambling for damage control. I was told Gary is the one that did the threatening and everyone is terrified because they know that Howard is vindictive."Scott the Engineer lost his space- "Kicked out of his office AKA the "Black cloud diner". Now has a small corner in the old TV room that he shares with 5-6 other people. Per Marci to separate him and Ronnie and to put him in line after he complained a lot."Morale is at an all time low and people hate working there- High Pitch Mike and Tracy Millman both quit without having other jobs first because they were so miserable. There was a time on the show when no one would ever quit.A bit of the story on why HTV went away with no replacement- "I posted this a while ago (will tack on some additional Marci info at the end) - I've been told this from someone involved with iN Demand / HTV: 1) regarding the budget for HTV, Howard took 95% of it and everyone had to make do with the rest. That includes salaries and money for shoots, equipment... 2) when the contract was ending, no one else wanted HTV. Howard and Don were demanding too much 3) Don ####ed up BIG TIME and missed a line in Howard's SIRIUS contract renewal from 5 years ago. It said that if HTV is not picked up or renewed, SIRIUS then owns the broadcast video rights. Letting that clause in screwed Howard and SIRIUS basically has him by the balls - that's why you still don't see any HTV replacement. The buzz is that Don messed up big time by not catching that line in the contract. Regarding Marci, she and no control over HTV, Doug and how he ran the ship with his employees and she didn't like that one bit. Everyone on the radio side is & was terrified of her, the TV guys from what I hear were not."

She was Howard's personal Getting Things Done adviser who is now COO at Sirius and is rumored to have taken over the show the last few years and been the key architect of Howard's move away from shock jock towards more family-friendly stuff.

Clearing the halls is insane but a minor point is Opie was messing with Howard in the halls which likely led to the procedure.
Don't make your career over messing with people and pranks and then be a baby if someone messes with you.  Seems like a reasonable concept to me.

Howard has morphed into the Imus he used to hate.  He's such a curmudgeon.
Basically.

He's too famous to bother and EVERYTHING he doesn't enjoy (including anything sports-related) is automatically stupid. I'm sure a little bit of it is schtick, but not all of it.

i do think about this from time to time because howard loves all their phony phone calls, but if someone "wasted" his time with that, he would probably have them killed.

What has he been saying about this trump thing the past year? Especially this week?
Talked about this for about 30 minutes today while I was listening. Basically said the interviews were directed by him to be entertaining for the audience and Trump played it up. Doesnt want to re air them bc he is not looking to hurt anyone. Has no idea why trump did not withdraw after he started winning. And said, even though he should be happy the show is getting pub, he would rather not have the attention. Wants the election to be over.

Then played a 5 minute CNN piece by the legal analyst always on the wrap up show talking about the trump interviews.

I've been listening less and less recently.  Who the #### is Brent and where did he come from?  Neither funny or entertaining.

I actually think its been pretty good in the last week or  2. Not many celebrity interviews and they've been cranking up the humor.

So basically, less Sarah Jessica Parker and more **** jokes, which is fine by me.
