HS Players Cheapshot Ref For Making Bad Call (1 Viewer)

So now it comes out that one of the players involved didn't get ejected. They mistakenly ejected another player instead. The player who should have been ejected later got called for a late hit on the QB.

Knowing that the coach kept this guy out there, I would fire him. Inexcusable.

Suspend them and never allow them on the football field again in high school.

Despicable. I have never seen this taken so far. WTF is going on.

I wonder if the coaches or a coach on the staff told them to do it??

I thought this would be the reason.

Apparently the story goes that the ref who GKTFO had thrown two other players out of the game on the previous play. The players said, "We heard the ref call our teammate a THUG N!!!!!R!"
Bull####
You don't think it was said?
There's maybe a 1 in 100000 chance it was said...
Book making may not be your thing.
Do you think it was said? Forget odds.
When there is behavior like that in the video I tend to want to look for a precipitating or triggering cause. I also try to understand matters in terms of my own experience. In this instance, given the reaction which we see, I believe it is likely that something other than the passion generated from losing a game and having teammates ejected prompted the reaction. Maybe not. After all, my experience may be wholly irrelevant to the world these kids live in. Maybe the losing and the ejections were enough. I just doubt the odds postulated. You maybe have a different assessment. That's fine by me.
The fact that they can't even get their stories straight about what was allegedly uttered s/b your first clue that they are full of crap

What if these guys get sent to jail for this and they don't end up curing cancer later in life because of it?
Ooh...what if the ref got an MRI after having kidney pain from the helmet spear and they found out that he had early stage pancreatic cancer from the MRI, and their actions really saved his life?
The John Kruk Theory

What if they find that cancer, but only these two kids know how to cure it?
what if only John Kruk only knows how to cure it
I'd pay money to see that movie. Even if a doctor sat next to me looking at his phone the whole time.
What if said doctor was on his device because he didnt want to waste a second that could be spent curing all cancers...except ball cancer of course?
If it was an M. Night Shyamalan movie, he'd be watching a video...of the cheapshot play.

#soconfused
if it were a M. Night Shyamalan movie, it would suck even more than the previous one he released. We would all be confused how we can keep making movies.

Ultimate he said/she said race card. The only proof anyone has is that this team was losing, blamed the refs, final minute, and their actions were caught on video. Everything else is noise. Even if the ref did say it that doesn't excuse their actions. And I would put the odds of him saying it for safety reasons alone at less than 1%. What other card could they play? It's the only one. BS

From ESPN:

Mack Breed, a 29-year-old assistant coach at John Jay, was placed on administrative leave for allegedly telling the players that the referee "needs to pay for cheating us," the school district said in a statement Tuesday.
And by "cheating us", I assume he means using racial slurs?

Even if the ref did say exactly what they are saying he said it still is no excuse for their actions. Had someone said that off the football field and they did what they did they would go to jail. This is absolutely no different.

What ever happened to stick and stone will break my bones, etc.

 where in America can you call someone a racial slur without getting a beatdown?

If there was a video of a cop punching a guy with a cheap shot. And the cop came out and said, "Yeah, but what you didn't see was that the guy called me pig." I wonder how many people would say that the blame was 50/50.

It cheats them out of the opportunity to live as equals to the whites.

Exactly, that is where the whole alleged slur falls apart. You are right on about the cop as well. Same scenario and many in here would have the complete opposite reaction saying the cop has a job to do and should be able to handle a slur, etc. I highly doubt the ref said anything based on the comment above. The comment above tells me that this was all about a coach/kids taking a game way too seriously and reacting to what they thought was a call (the ejections) that cost them the game. The slur is an excuse to try and get out of jail for free.

And what is :loco: I don't believe these players are black. So even if their story rings true and the ref said something, what were they retaliating for?

At this point, they should cancel the season. I didn't feel that way this morning, but the more we learn, the more I'm inclined to think the whole program/district is in need of a reboot.

Kids do stupid things, but the adults are just contemptible.

It's happened again...same state...same town!

For the second week in a row, a San Antonio-area high school is dealing with a player who hit an official in the middle of the game.

This time it’s St. Anthony High School, whose game Saturday against Austin Hyde Park was interrupted by a fight and, then, Zeke Cardenas responding to a penalty flag by shoving the official. This is, obviously, a far cry from last week’s premeditated targeting incident. But with international attention given to players’ conduct toward officials—especially in San Antonio!—it’s still shocking to see happen.

Isn't San Antonio the area where he documentary series Friday Night Tykes was made? They get thug training from an early age there.

It's incredibly common in a high-intensity situations that people will have inconsistencies in their stories. Humans are pretty terrible at recalling events.

But there's a pretty wide divide between calling soembody a thug N word and dirty Mexican....I don't think after 14 yrs of officiating games, a ref is going to suddenly start throwing epithets around at high school kids. It's a fairly laughable accusation.

To me, it doesn't matter if the coach told them. That doesn't get them off the hook. Just because the coach ordered the Code Red doesn't exonerate Dawson and Downey.

Wasn't this week's ago? It's just now coming out that the coach told them to do it?

First it was an accident, then the referee was racist, and now the coach made them do it. Where are the parents in all of this? These guys need to learn to take some responsibility.

Yeah, those two are in full cya mode and they are laying the groundwork for the meeting to determine whether or not they are expelled from school. I love their attorney saying they've been punished enough after everything they've already gone through. Poor kids. And they are still sticking with the claim that the ref used racial slurs throughout the game as another part of their exoneration tour.

The story is now that the coach told them to do it because he cheated them and used racial slurs. They are doubling down on the excuses here and going all in.
