I love pandora.com (1 Viewer)

I'm using this site for the first time tonight. I'm trying a "seed" of Snow Patrol, Ben Folds Five, Weezer and Moby and seeing where it takes me. I'm impressed so far - this is addicting.
How do I "seed" - I am trying to add artists in the mix and haven't figured out how yet.
Click on your station - choose "Add Variety to this Station" - put in your band or song seed.

So I noticed that Pandora was available as a mobile application on my blackberry. I love it. The problem is sometimes when I'm hiking/driving in foothills and canyons...the services cuts out. It also drains the battery pretty quick.

Does anyone know if there is a way to stream Pandora and then save it onto the memory card of my phone?

Any help would be appreciated.

I use this differently now - I basically use one song/band stations that I create and then I switch around. These days - Metric and Rilo Kiley are the seeded stations I most listen to.

I've been disappointed with Pandora lately.

It seems like they've gotten away from the original concept of suggesting songs based on musical similiarties to the selected song (if the station is based on a song), and moved toward music based on commercial demographics or categorizations of the artist over all.

For instance, if I were to start a station based on a slow acoustic ballad by The Grateful Dead,

I would expect to get suggestions for other slow ballads with similar instrumentation.

What I get, is a list of of songs by jam bands and classic rock outfits, that may or may not have anything to do musically with the original selected song.

Wow. I've never used it until now and I'm loving it. I put in UFO as a starting point and I have yet to hear a song I don't like in over an hour. UFO, Raibow, Judas Priest, MSG, Zep... Glad this thread was revived...

Been listening to a lot of Pandora.

Wondering if anyone has upgraded to the Pandora One account and if that experience is better and worth it.

Had my whole home wired for sound last week and added Pandora. We had a dinner party last night and I put on the Jackson Browne channel. 4-5 people kept telling me how good the music was. :lmao:

What is the easiest / best way to do this?

I know this response is 8 months late, but I upgraded to Pandora One recently. I really didn't notice anything different about the music, but the commercials are gone and I like the desktop app a lot. I'd say it's worth it, I was hitting my 40 hours in a month cap and was deciding between the .99c unlock for the rest of the month or just going with Pandora One. Decided to try out Pandora One and I'm happy with my choice.Been a little more active lately guiding the suggestions, I think if you let it go too long without making any choices it just continues to branch out. I'd say it plays 80% music I really like and 20% that is similar but that I don't care for. The really cool thing is that it started playing some music that was kind of unrelated to the original seed songs musically but that I really enjoy. I had heard it before but never thought Pandora would get to it from my seeds, and was happy to be wrong.

If you click this link you will granting me immunity for one year. :)
That doesn't seem like it's wired. Didyou tape some wires to the back for effect?
I had the TV and CD-Radio wired, then the guy turned me onto the Sonos system. Pandora runs through Sonos. I can control the music from my I-Phone from anywhere in the house. I have eight stations, master bedroom, bathrooms, kitchen, family room, outside on the deck, garage and downstairs. You can put the music on whereven you want.

What about no iphone?

I'd looked at the sonos systems in the past but passed. I'm sure they've improved.

I have a network enabled hard drive thingy that can play pandora on my stereo. I wish it was slacker.

I haven't used Pandora in ages. Seemed like once you got about 3:1 down:up ratio on the rater they just feed you top40 garbage regardless of band or genre. I also hate how you can't retroactively mark a song. Or cache.

I do think this is absolutely murdering CD sales right now. People aren't really downloading (illegally) anymore (well...music anyways) and still generate nearly no revenue to the record labels.

I would think so too. If I'm sitting at my computer, I'd usually rather listen to pandora over a CD on my itunes.J

Is there any way to get Pandora to quit playing so many live versions of songs? Seems like 1 out of every 3 is a live version.

And unless we're talking Frampton, live versions suck.

So disappointed, I started with Sharon Jones and Amy Winehouse but after 30 minutes ended up with constant John Mayer, makes no sense.

Only n00bs or oldfolk are still using Pandora...
:lmao: This place turned me into a grooveshark convert. Thanks, fbg's!
I've looked at Grooveshark quickly, but maybe I didn't get it. Seems like you have to choose the music you want, right? Or you can potentially listen to one of the preset stations, but that isn't going to be any better than Pandora, is it?The thing I really like about Pandora is that it tries to pick music similar to what you say you like. So far, mine is still doing a pretty good job. When it goes off-track, I try to make sure and give it a thumb-down, and likewise, if it plays something I really like, I thumb-up. Hopefully by doing so I am improving the chances that future songs will also match my likes.Granted, it's suggestion engine is likely also the biggest weakness Pandora has - you can't just play a certain song when you want to, or even a certain artist. But I like the set it and forget it functionality, but I can understand how others may want more control, especially if it ends up not doing a good job suggesting songs you like. Like I said though, it is still doing a good job for me - probably 80%-90% of the songs it suggests that I hadn't heard before I enjoy.

Pick any song and play it... then turn on the RADIO. It tries to fit right along those lines. You can always X out a song if you dont like it.

All the Creedence stuff they play is live. When I listen to thr Eagles Radio it seems they repeat the same songs over and over. I walk the dog for an hour every night and can count on hearing.Running on Empty, Won`t back down, Take it Easy, Who will stop the Rain and Turn the Page 5-7 nights

Just recently got back into Pandora now that there is the app I didn't know about. Saving me a lot of money.

I got back into Pandora a couple months ago because it is pre-loaded on the blu-ray player I bought. It was nice to listen to some of my old stations from nearly 10 years ago. Now that I can play it through all my indoor and outdoor zones, I think I'll become a heavy user again and might even subscribe.

I'm late to this party as I've just starting using it regularly. I like it a lot, except for the fact that it keeps giving me country songs.

Any guess as to which of the following stations is triggering country?

Rush

Talking Heads

Phish

Nine Inch Nails

Violent Femmes

80's rock

Classic Rock

Dave Matthews

Techno

I don't know but make sure you thumb them down if you don't want them.

I will admit that just now hearing "Give Me Weed Instead of Roses" for the first time did make me laugh.

Nine Inch Nails because of the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt?

Dave Matthews is folksy and has some country twinges. You could argue Phish in some of their straw hat tunes. Just keep neggin the country ones.

I've really moved to spotify personally

me too - I can make a much better "varied" playlist myself.

Pandora was fun when it was the first "internet music" I tried (save for iTunes). But it got old really fast. I hate being locked into a genre, and when you put a bunch of artists in, it turns into a greatest hits station, and repeats a lot of stuff.

Violent Femmes for sure. Lot of country influences in their stuff. Maybe Phish and Matthews.,
