I post my least favorite commercials here (1 Viewer)

The Progressive insurance spot with the guy and his wax double.
Progressive does many spots right (becoming your parents, for sure) but this one is creepy and dumb.

Also - wrong thread but Progressive's new spots with the "backup QBs" are awesome.
I could be wrong but I thought that was a Liberty commercial.

In either case, one of us misremembered it so not exactly effective (unless the intent was to annoy, in which case... success?)

That's the thing. I can barely remember the product muchless the specific company. So even if it's just meant to annoy they really don't work very well.

You're actually right... the creepy wax guy IS Liberty, not Progressive. Progressive keeps their good reputation!

This parody/cover whatever song makes me want to puke every time I hear it.

The Roku commercial with the husband and wife screaming at each other. The first few times it came on I just immediately muted it and had no clue what they were advertising.

I don’t think I could hate a commercial any more than the new Apple intelligence one. You couldn’t make the mother/wife any worse than they do here

The idea is that they are just staying together because of the kids. The reality is that majority of marriages are like this so it will speak to more than it doesn't. That's the whole point of advertising...create an emotion and this will resonate with many married couples unfortunately.

Allow me to (re?)post this commercial, which made me decide NEVER TO TRY QUIZNOS. 🤮 And I still haven't.

I never connected Sheldon with that ad, lol. I have to say that between this and the singing rats ads it was like a lunatic was in charge of their ad campaigns.

What do you think it's portraying then?

Father is getting love from his kids and that clearly makes him happy. Wife mocks her husband behind his back. Wife gives him a video of memories of him and his kids (not of memories of them together). No affection between them whatsoever...a wife would normally kiss her husband for his birthday when giving a gift. Husband looks up at wife not to say "I love you" but more a look of "thank you for allowing this moment with my kids". It's pretty clear to me that's what's going on there.

Yes, at 23 seconds. Daughter says she "had a great teacher" and she makes a face and motion as if to disagree with the daughter. She clearly doesn't really like him.

GOOD? I don't have a company more than I do this company for their infinite variety of garbage commercials with garbage characters.

Yes, all of it. That's why I started this whole exchange with a simple "No".

We all know you're down in marriage. You started a pretty big thread on it a couple years ago. This is just another example of it. And that's not a value judgement - you may have your own valid reasons for it. But your bias is a thing.

It's a 30 second commercial so I have no idea. From what we're shown it's simply a wife who forgot to get a gift and she covered it by making a sentimental" slideshow of their family. And she's smugly satisfied with herself.

It wasn't a slideshow of the family, it was a slideshow of "woodworking with kids"...she typed that specifically in the AI prompt. It had nothing to do with her, it was for him and the kids. There were zero pictures of the wife in those memories. The making a face at them while in the kitchen was clearly to show she's annoyed by having to celebrate him. There was zero need for them to show her doing that without signifying her unhappiness.

Solid defense. There's much more evidence in the editing of that commercial that signifies my interpretation of it is more accurate than yours. Nobody can argue that. If they wanted to portray that they were a loving happy couple than they would've done things much differently.

3 seconds into the commercial the look on the mothers face tells me that she can’t believe she forgot his birthday.

Can we all agree that it’s a weird commercial? Something about it is off. I doubt she forgot the birthday. She might have gotten bogged down and forgotten or (gasp!) found selecting a gift for her husband difficult. Never seen that in a family dynamic where the father is impossible to shop for unless you’re his daughters?

But there’s no evidence they’re unhappily married. Otherwise, she doesn’t even give a **** enough to make the slideshow.

But something about it is a bit off.

eta* Just watched it. She has clearly forgotten his birthday. She almost mouths “Oh ****” when she realizes it. Rewind it and watch the part where her daughters give the father their gifts.

Why do they make it priority to include her making that face/reaction standing in the kitchen then? Even in the cut down version I just saw a few minutes ago....they kept that moment of her making the face. If they were looking for things to cut out of a shorter version and they didn't want to push her unhappiness don't you think that would've been an easy cut?

She forgot and she’s scrambling. It’s a very Roseanne Barr-esque commercial. They could have been going for that.

Either way, it’s confusing enough to be a commercial that never should have made it out of the board room. It’s terrible and not a feel-good commercial.

Has anyone heard the radio commercial for a new podcast by Gronk and Edelman called "Dudes on dudes". It sounds so stupid. "Is Randy Moss a freak or a stud???".

The whole Apple intelligence commercial campaign is horrible all the way down to the I Am Genius song. Nothing genius about it

It’s terrible and DoD is in on it (Apple’s AI). Nothing screams “must-have tech” like the NSA or DoD snooping on your searches.

I heard a commercial for it and all I could think was…what a terrible name for a sports podcast. NTTAWWT.

that kerrygold butter commercial with the depressing version of the cheap trick song. the versions of the commercial i have seen make little sense. maybe the family doesn’t use the table because of its odd design and it’s too small? maybe because they sit crammed into one side, leaving an entire side open? maybe i hate kerrygold? no idea what the point is here.

Historically (I'm talking about the early 2010's here :D ), the only differentiating factors for mobile phones were screen resolution, battery life and camera.
Fast forward to the 2020's and
  • screen resolution has reached the limits of what the human eye can differentiate
  • battery life is about at its limits too (at least as far as today's technology goes)
  • same with the camera (although if they could create the same camera capabilites while restoring the camera lens to flush with the phone back, it would be a game-changer)
So what's left?
Titanium? :lmao:

It really comes down to the software. On this, I'll give 'em a Keith for effort, but the execution is lacking.

I'm actually IN one of the relationships that you alluded to in your first post about this commercial and even I think you're reaching...

When the daughter hands him his present the dad says “I thought we sad no gifts this year..”, so the wife didn’t think she had to get him a present.

If your interpretation was correct she wouldn’t have scrambled to put the video together. She would have stayed in the kitchen and nastily yelled in “You said ‘no gifts’ “.

Something about it is off. I doubt she forgot the birthday. She might have gotten bogged down and forgotten or (gasp!) found selecting a gift for her husband difficult.
When the daughter hands him his present she says “I know you said no gifts this year..”, so the wife didn’t think she had to get him a present.

We’re obviously missing or not hearing that. I’ve seen it like three or four times and missed it every time. Thanks. Makes infinitely more sense now.

I still think there are clues whereby she’s not being nasty to him but is feeling other emotions.

I like how in the Tom Brady commercial for Fox sports, they throw in the "They'll think you're just another ex-jock looking to cash in" comment.

Troy Aikman
Terry Bradshaw
Greg Olsen
Nate Burleson
Chris Collinsworth
Booger
M. Irvin
R. Clark
Saturday
M. Strahan
H. Long
All the guys in the studios...

List goes on and on. Any of them offended? Tom Brady is different I guess.

Ok the pediasure commercials. Really? "I noticed my kid was slowing down in growth" So she gives him pediasure? Like thats gonna work?
Also, I didn't notice this before, but they started to put a disclaimer that basically says kids suffering from malnutrition can have growth issues. Really? Here's a thought....Feed your kid a sandwich, then you won't need pediasure.
