I quit smoking! (1 Viewer)

Maybe you could cook up something yummy and ship it out to your, ummm, ifriends. :D
:goodposting: Especially the one who, you know, were there for you when you needed to vent. :D
i don't think our crabmeat & brie french toast will travel very well. sorry yall!
How about pie!?!
maybe some Black Currant Creme Brulee?or our Fruit & Almond Steusel cake served a la mode with a Grand Marnier caramel sauce.

There is always the Classic Style Cheesecake with fruit topping (that i have to say is some of the best cheesecake we have ever made here, or that i've eaten anywhere across the country)

We might also be able to send the Cocoa Dumbo, a white & dark choc peanut brownie with vanilla ice cream. It would travel better than the Fresh Squeezed Key Lime Pie (our top seller & better than any ive had growing up in Florida) or the Banana pudding with roasted bananas, choc sauce, whipped cream, & a cayanne gingersnap.

I suggest having the McCrea Late Harvest Viogner as your dessert beverage. It rocks.

You've got it licked man. You just had to really want it this time. No games, gimmicks or easing yourself off the s***.

I really do want it this time. I thought i did back in Jan....but now i feel more motivated. seeing my kid is helping, but being angry at myself and being absolutely brutal to my own "stinkin thinkin" and not excepting this crap. I am slowly but surely feeling a little better. But i think i had better not listen to "you've got it licked man". I cannot accept that yet. Maybe in a full month. Maybe not until a year from now. Perhaps more. For now:

IM WEAK AND NEED HELP. PLEASE DON'T SMOKE TIPSY.

Close to hour number 67. only one hour & 10 minutes until i get all the way to the 68th straight hour without a smoke.

 Keep up the good fight tipsey. Every day that you don't smoke is a day that you'll enjoy later in life playing with your grandkids that you wouldn't have had if you kept smoking.

2. Took the kid on close to a mile walk in his stroller. Note to self...Walk him up to Tulane & Loyola next week. Chicks love babies! Sorry dear, just getting my perve on.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Nuthin' wrong with gettin' your perve on tipsy.

Key Lime Pie, yummmmmmmmm.Sooooo, what is the McCrea Late Harvest Viogner? Is it a dessert wine??? I loooovvveee dessert wine.

Non-smoker here, but I have an addiction almost as crippling....caffeine.I drink around 8 cans of diet-coke every day, and if I don't I get piercing headaches, I eat everything in sight, and I can't sleep (you would guess the reverse, but the headaches have something to do with this).I've tried stopping and have for a month or two at times, but I always revert back because of the prevalence of caffeine and my love of diet-cola (and my tendency to stay up late).I guess the consequences aren't as bad as smoking, but my teeth are discolored and I'm sure its not good for my heart. Plus, when you drink this much soda, it gets kinda expensive. So, I feel for you man.

As you are in the restaurant business I am sure you have a more sophisticated pallet for wines. I on the other hand, love the sweet stuff. :P Is this something I can get anywhere or what?

Lol...my caffine addiction is worse than the smoking. If i wake up at 8 and don't have a coffee by 11...bam. Headache.I even had a coffee named after me in the Seattles Best stores in downtown Portland Oregon. I normally drink 3 16oz iced coffee's a day. And this is the slow brew process of iced coffee that makes it twice as strong. I would guess 3 16oz. iced coffee's my way equal over 12 cups of regular coffee.

I have been cutting down since June. I at most only have 2 a day now. I am cutting out the soda as much as i can too. No way am i ready to quit caffine though.

I doubt it. It is a very small production. a teenie tiny bottle costs about 16 bucks wholesale, so if you did see it at a specialty wine shop, it would be well over 30 bucks. You should drink "sauterns"...they are the bomb of dessert wines. Too sweet for me, but people with better palates seem to eat them up.

Yea, its a really weird feeling, trying to quit caffeine. You are dead tired because your body is used to the jolt that caffeine provides, yet you can't sleep because your head hurts terribly. So you just walk around in a daze all day, extremely tired, with an extreme headache, wanting to sleep but not able to. It sucks.

Washington wines

I've never had a late harvest viogner, but I do enjoy the "standard" viogner - not a huge fan of dessert wines either, but don't mind a sip every once in a while.
they say they are perfect with or as desserts.i prefer drinking another bottle of Pinot Noir instead.

I still think it has no game on quitting smoking, but it is very hard to 86 caffine. I doubt ill ever do it now that i have a newborn.

Yea, I haven't tried to quit smoking, since I've never smoked. Wouldn't know how it compares. If its worse than caffeine though, I'm glad I won't have to know.

Where can I get them? Can I get it at World Market or something? It sounds good.

It's the difference in throwing a bullet vs. shooting it.

Never done either of those, sadly.

i would find a nice shop that only sells wine & ask there sales people. you live in cali, right? you should have 100 wine only stores nearby...and those guys might just let you have some free samples. Try and find a store that specializes in French Wines or possible even some German ones.

Your best bet will probably be HereHere it says they distribute to California. You are from there, correct?

Here you can learn a little bit about that particular vintage

Here there is a listing of all the places that sell their wines in Washington. Some of those are mere minutes from my house. Should you be unsuccessful in procuring this vintage from the winery, I'd be happy to get some to you.

Ain't the FFA cool?
Thanks!!! I'm going to check it out in just a few.

Nice work  Did you know the winemakers at McCrea are originally from New Orleans? I had already ordered several of their wines before i knew that. Having the New Orleans connection is perfect! I carry the Late Harvest Viognier, Roussane, Grenache, and my favorite Syrah right now...the "Ciel Du Cheval Vineyard" Syrah from Red Mountain, WA. This wine is like ink in the glass & flowers on the tounge. IT ROCKS!

Dude...i just made it to hour 69 with no smokes. Maybe i can make it to 70 hours!i said 69..huhuhuTraditionally, these last 2-3 hours at work are the worst. I wait on the last table to leave, the cooks to finish cleaning, and basically twiddle my thumbs for the better part of 2 hours. I am feeling good...at least for this next hour.

hour 70 approaches. I just have to stay busy for another hour before I can go home.I feel ready to jump out of my skin my energy level is so high.

The toothpick can die

That's not a huge markup for the wine, btw
Its high for my list. I generally only upcharge 18 bucks or so on every bottle. That one is high by nearly 25 bucks. not sure why...ill change it with next list.

Nice. . .isn't the standard somewhere around double cost?
at least.for example...i sell caymus cabernet for 80 bucks. I've seen it as high as 120 at other restaurant in the city. "since your list is so overpriced, i'll have iced tea, thanks." is my usually tactic when i see that garbage.

Tipsy -

I've never been a smoker... save maybe a total of 1-2 months during the 8th grade.

That being said, what I can tell you is this.  Every time you think of smoking, think of your son lying in a hospital bed gasping for every precious breath, hooked up to tubes to help him breathe.  Picture it until you get a tear in your eye.

This is what happened to me.  Both my parents smoked.  I was a 3 pack a day second hand smoker.  I developed SEVERE athsma at age 4.  Made at least 6-7 trips to the hospital as described above over the next 10 years, not to mention countless nights sitting on the edge of the bathtub trying hoplessly to breathe.  My parents were too selfish/stubborn/weak to quit.  One such night, my mom tried to comfort me by asking "Is there anything I can do?".  My response, as a 14 year old, was "Quit ####### smoking!" Yes, I used the F word.

As it turned out, my parents didn't quit at the time, but they did stop smoking in the house & car (basically anywhere around me).  They have since quit, thank God.  Once I was no longer exposed, my athsma slowly started to get better.  Today, I am completely athsma free.

I'm being blunt because I think it's what you need to hear.  If you can't do it for yourself, do it for your son.  I care for ya, Bro... keep up the fight... you can do it.
I haven't smoked in my childs presence once. Not in the house, not in the car, not even outside with him nearby. I knew when he was concieved that I didn't want him anywhere near the nasty MF'rs. In the month he has been alive, I have been "trying to quit" (trying = continually failing to quit) and not wanted him to associate the smell of those things with his dad.I have proved time and again that I cannont quit for myself. I am not smoking at this minute because I don't want my kid to have a parent that is slowly killing himself. I am also not smoking right now because if i continue too, my wife (with athsma) will start again. I should do it for me, but I obviously hate myself. I am doing this for my wife & my son. They deserve better.

Btw: Thanks Keerock. Unfortunately, this means i will not be placing in the money in the fat farm contest. But quite frankly, this is much more important to me. My goal is to not gain anymore weight at this point...something i will consider a miracle if i do indeed stay off the smokes.

Hour 61 just passed.
One goal at a time. Spend the rest of 2005 concentrating on quitting smoking. Tackle the weight loss next year. You and Keerock deserve very high praise for your initiative and endurance.

hmm. . .if 80 bucks is marked up 18 bucks, that makes the cost 62, which would make $120 right around normal, wouldn't it?
guess you are correct there. math was never my strong suit...unless you give me a spreadsheet!

I call BS on the deserving high praise. I've said it before...praise me when I have more than a month of cig sobriety. If you read this whole thread, you will see I quit for 6 days, 7 days, 14 days was my max. Now im just barely over 3 and don't want to get ahead of myself. That being said, thank you for your support. I don't mean to sound like such an #### with my response, but I am a very weak minded fool. I'm freaking 34 years old almost & I still smoke? WTF is wrong with me?

81 hours since my last smoke.

That is very sad & my heart goes out to you. I assume smoking killed him in some way?Lost my grandmother (paternal) when she was 55 due to lung cancer. She smoked filterless pall malls for 30+ years. She was diagnosed with lung cancer 3 months before it killed her. Her husband of roughly the same age quit smoking at that time and lived another 25 years...until a stroke got him.

My grandfather (fraternal) has had emphysema for a few years now, and has to carry around an o2 tank.

One of my best friends & fellow FBG just got a call yesterday about an friend from his group losing her 55 year old mother to lung cancer.

Lungs look like this when you get cancer.

Maybe I should stay quit?

Reading this thread is like watching a car wreck, I just can't turn away. While part of me wants to say:"Tipsy, go ahead, just have one last cigarette for old time sake" :stirspot: The other part of me wants to say:"Tipsy, you are doing great. Just think about the extra time you will be able to spend with your kid(s), and one day hopefully granchild(ren). Don't voluntarily cut your life short for a temporary nicotine satisfaction" :clap:Honestly though I am pulling for you. Cigarette smokers are not high on my list of people I root for, because I feel you are all weak minded fools. But if there was a way to force you to stop (short of death) available, like maybe via pill or something, I'd donate some cash to the effort.G'luck!

PM me for my paypal account #. I am taking cash donations!I am setting up a savings account for my son that I will put $5 a day in (or a once a week deposit of $35+) to show some of the fruit of this quitting.

Tipsy, I'm going to attempt to quit again soon -- I plan to use this thread to let out some steam from time to time -- keep up the good fight
