I quit smoking! (1 Viewer)

After reading this thread and a few others, I am starting to wonder why smoo is a "board fave."
Smoo's like the Darth Vador to the board's Luke Skywalker. The Lex Luthor to our Super Man. Without Smoo to heap our collective contempt on, we'd all turn against each other and the board would collapse in on itself. Resulting in utter chaos and an imbalance in the space-time-continum. And you know what happens then......

Hour number 87 has come & gone. And I didn't even have a craving!

:pickle:
i put your info in to the silkquit meter as a midnight sat night (really sunday) and smoking 25 cigs/day. here you go:Three days, 16 hours, 10 minutes and 18 seconds. 91 cigarettes not smoked, saving $17.22. Life saved: 7 hours, 35 minutes.
thats what mine says too. thats $17 bucks for little McStagger!

that's the real kicker that puts it all in perspective. imagine lining up 91 smokes in a row. that's gotta be a couple of feet long!

Do you have an addictive personality by nature? 'Cause I don't. I smoked because I liked it, and there may have been some chemical addiction, but at 17 days that's gone now. So I'm not having trouble not smoking, and I can have one now and then and not feel the need for another. But if you're a naturally addictive person, then it would of course be more difficult.
Like nobodys business. Just ask Domepatrol.
Just look at how his post count has replaced his smoking, of course he has an addictive personality. All I know is that if you and your wife start smoking again with that baby, I will start a paypal fund and put you on the first Greyhound back to that Pensacola trailer park you came from. :excited:

You would have a point if my goal was to never have another cigarette again. That's not my goal and never has been. My goal is to not purchase cigarettes or smoke regularly. 2 cigarettes in 3 weeks is far from "regularly". I know a great many non-smokers who occasionally bum a smoke from a buddy for a quick rush. I am one of those people. I'm exactly where I intended to be.
you are addicted. once an addict always an addict. you used to smoke 15-20/day and now only a few a month. doesn't matter. you're still an addict. i'm a smoking addict. i used to smoke a pack a day and now only with friends drinking. it's actually hard for me NOT to smoke around smokers when i'm drinking so i acknowledge I'm an addict and try to make a rational decision - I usually end up smoking and regretting it the next day. unfortunately now I feel like a good buzz has to include a smoke which is BS.
:lmao: Whatever you say, chief.

sadly enough...my first home was a trailer. :bag: wasn't even a double wide.

Oops. Seriously though, I will show Mrs. Tipsy those pictures of her sisters you gave me if you fall off the wagon. :pics:

i saved the best ones for me. so glad the wife is not at work...her FFA time is at a min. right now.

Time for work. Hour number 88 approaching. Hardest hours of the day coming. And tonight, i'm working with my least favorite crew that generally make me want to smoke every 2 minutes. At least I have the FFA!

i just walked out back and every single employee on the clock (4 cooks) were having a smoke break. It was my first overwhelming "yuck" reaction yet. of course i saw a pack lying there & the thought did enter my mind "just take one for later...its ok tipsy...shmoke up." It only took 1-2 seconds for me to tell my internal Peens to F' off.

just went through my worst craving so far today. It lasted about the length of time it took me to open mozilla, click on my FBG's link, find this thread, and start typing. All of about 20-30 seconds. I have to say having the physical stuff done with is making this much easier. God Bless staying off the junk for 72 hours.HOUR 89 DOWN / #90 ON THE CLOCK!

Just be a man and quit both smoking and this thread.I think you are just using this thread as a crutch to use when you once again fail, everyone will try to console you and tell you what you need to do and try to make you feel good and to try again. blah blah blah.Look at all the attention you are getting every time you go back and start smoking. Your lust for attention is as powerful as your need for nicotine, may actually be more of an intoxicant.Quit being an attention wh*%e and vow not to post in the "Footballguys Free For All" until you have actually quit smoking for 6 months. This thread is working against you, sack up man. Keep this alive and you are destined to fail. You will be able to quit smoking when you are ready to quit smoking but not until. Me and GrandmaRox quit dozens of times until we had finally had enough and really wanted to quit. Until you really want to quit no amount of thread posting will help you quit. You can call yourself a "loser" and a "failure" all you want it doesn't mean you want to quit, it is a smoke screen (pun intended). Best of luck and I hope to not see you in this forum for another 6 months. Then all your friends can welcome you back and congratulate you for a job well done. Get real, get serious and get'er done.

You may want to see a doctor about that.

my father died suddenly at the age of 51.  he had a 3 month old son.

he smoked all of his life.  he was outwardly completely healthy.

you can do this!
That is very sad & my heart goes out to you. I assume smoking killed him in some way?Lost my grandmother (paternal) when she was 55 due to lung cancer. She smoked filterless pall malls for 30+ years. She was diagnosed with lung cancer 3 months before it killed her. Her husband of roughly the same age quit smoking at that time and lived another 25 years...until a stroke got him.

My grandfather (fraternal) has had emphysema for a few years now, and has to carry around an o2 tank.

One of my best friends & fellow FBG just got a call yesterday about an friend from his group losing her 55 year old mother to lung cancer.

Lungs look like this when you get cancer.

Maybe I should stay quit?
yes tipsy, he had a heart attack which was attributed to his smoking unfiltered camels for 35+ years.i mentioned my little brother as an incentive to you. he is now 13 & never knew his dad. harsh but true.

do it for yourself & for the little guy in your av.

like im going to listen to anyone who uses the giter done phrase.
Now there is a real good reason. See ya next time around, might even pat you on the back and tell you how close you came.

Then again maybe not, that seems to be what you crave more than anything.

what i really crave is another smoke. not a lecture from some newbie to the FFA. IF YOU DON'T LIKE ME OR THIS THREAD....KINDLY TAKE A HIKE.

92 hours. Here come the absolute worst 4 of the day...slow & bored @ work.Luckily, the cravings have been about almost non existent today compared to the last 3 days. Getting that nic out is huge. Now i just need to stay focused. On to the next hour!

i just got back home from a night of BBQ, beers, and finally a snort of Johnny Blue with a group of people and none of them smoke. what a night of clarity. we all cooked, let the children play and no smoking. however, in the back of my mind, after that fourth beer and the scotch started flowing, i craved a smoke. ridiculous. keep it up tipsy. #### what everyone says. if this thread keeps you going, i'm with you pal.

mmmmmmmm.....jw blue.i don't even like scotch / but appreciate how good that stuff is.

yeah i hadn't had it in a long time. actually i don't think i've ever had it and appreciated it like tonight. i just started really drinking scotch the last few years and i was out at this bbq at my wife's new friend's house. her fiancee is a brit as am I and we had a blast. good scotch...edited to add: i'm glad i didn't have a smoke and the drunk craving has stopped. but i know full and well that if anyone was smoking there i would have bummed one. soooo stupid and childish. it's hard. we gotta stop.

This is a courtesy post, as I promised I wouldn't post in any of your Non-Smoking Threads again. I'll say it, then be done.Your smoking life is over. Obsessing over how many hours you haven't smoked is not moving on. Find something else to do. It's okay to want one, you just can't smoke one. Ever. Heed these words or we'll see you posting again in a few weeks.P.S. See you tomorrow evening.

Good luck, Tipsy, but its funny seeing you bash yourself constantly throughout this thread.

I dont mean that in a bad way, its just funny seeing you yell at yourself.
I've tried everything else. I deserve to be yelled at & have someone be rigorously honest to me 24/7. Whom better than one of my own personalities?YOU ARE WEAK TIPSY!

Just because you have made it 85 hours without a smoke doesn't make you any stronger. Your stupid head will try to convince you tonight at work that one would be ok. I wouldn't be surprised if you did have one. Stupid piece of crap.

And don't get a big head thinking your 3.8 miles of walking this morning helped either. Now you are tired & want to smoke. Especially after that so called "healthy" lunch you had.

(actually, i feel ok right now...but am preparing myself for the eventual cravings tonight will bring.)
:lmao:

with all due respect, are you a former smoker? do you understand how difficult it can be for some folks to quit smoking. if tipsy wants to post in his own thread so he can reread it for support, we shouldn't discourage it, should we?

Actually, Squirrels quit smoking 2 years ago, and he is right that Tipsy would probably do well to put some of that energy into positive reinforcement. If you are constantly focusing on how much you are denying yourself, I think it can make it that much harder to move on. I quit smoking last summer, and am somewhat lucky because smoking now makes me sick as a dog.

How would you know smoking made you sick if you quit?
Because the couple times I had the drunk late night smoke, I was misrable the next day, beyond any hangover ever.

I guess I'm a little confused about what you and Squirrels are saying. Isn't this thread designed for positive reinforcement and support from his FFA buddies?

I guess your definition of quitting and mine are different. Quitting to me means you never smoke again.

So it be known....these two are my best friends & are allowed to say whatever they want to me. My boy Squirrels quit 2 years ago with the type of resolve I haven't witnessed from anyone i've ever known. He even had to deal with his wife smoking this whole time until she quit a couple of months ago. His wisdom on this matter I have to respect. Domepatrol gets real wasted and thinks he can have a smoke every 4-6 months or so. We all get to hear about it the next day or during our Thursday poker game...it does always make him sick.1. I disagree with both of my friends on focusing my energy elsewhere. I am using this thread to try and keep me honest about how freaking hard this is for me. We all process & deal with things differently. That being said, I did just come back from my 3rd straight day of taking a walk with my kid....2.5 miles today (lil bastige needed his mommy a quarter mile into our second lap at Audobon.... :P ) in a vain attempt to not gain any weight while im still in the quitting process.

2. Squirrels "Mind over Matter" philosophy is a good one. My way of focusing my mind right now is to embrace the pain/agony/anger of going through withdrawls. My apperant anger towards myself in this thread has been an attempt at calling myself on my own BS. I was stealing half smoked cigs out of the break area for Christs sake. I am ok with the tough love i've been dishing out to myself. Internally, its kind of funny to me while at the same time helping reinforce my new "hatred" towards this disease. I know its ok to want but not to have; same thing I had to go through while lubing up the swedish bikini team.

3. My path is to never have another nicotine product. Domepatrol can have his binge night every few months. Smoo can have his 1 cigarette every 10 days or whatever. TO EACH HIS OWN. I am very proud of my 2 friends and how they have been able to keep from relapsing.

4. 107.5 hours since my last cigarette. That is my positive reinforcement.

Cool. I've been up since 830 or so and haven't had a craving at all today.

By craving, I mean the want to have a cig so bad it makes me stop what i'm doing and focus on not having that smoke.

I have had a couple of minor "triggers" so far today. After I finished my breakfast & when I tasted my coffee. Neither one made we "crave" one so to speak...I just felt the "where is my smoke?" thought go through my head.

110 hours down.

(15 min. from now anyway.)

Alright man! Hats off to ya... keep it up. You've made it past the hard part.... to go back now would be stupid.

Congrats... for all intents and purposes, you've quit.

That's not normal human behaviour.I understand that people with addictive personalities need to make these kind of pledges, but not everybody does. Millions of people every day engage in vice-like behaviour with acceptable degrees of moderation. They can do something a little bit without doing it full speed. There are millions of people who have a few drinks after woork quite often who are not alcoholics. There are millions of people who play the occasional game of poker without spending their lives gambling. And there are millions of people who have the occasional cigarette or cigar without immediately smoking an entire pack.

Quitting means no longer doing something at an addictive level. And yes, for some people, that does mean never doing it again. But it doesn't have to.

I realized that I had already responded to Pick once, and thought better of trying again.
