If Arian Foster can do an interview with British accent... (1 Viewer)

They can. See almost every movie out there.

I wish every athlete would just be a total idiot in interviews. They get asked the dumbest #### constantly, and all ya ever get are BS programmed answers, cause god forbid you speak your mind. All hell breaks lose on you if you speak your mind.

Its a weird dynamic. The reporters want the athletes to say something interesting but when they do, they attack the athletes for saying it thus making it less likely they say something interesting.

I'm afraid to find out the answer to whether or not Beast Mode is speaking his mind, now that he's obviously sick of getting fined for skipping interviews.

... why can't people with a foreign accent, stop speaking in broken English?
You mean besides the fact that both the British and Americans are speaking English, while foreigners are not speaking their native language?
Sure, but I could speak all day long with a Hispanic accent, or Chinese accent. Why can't Hispanic people speak without it? Especially when they've lived in this country for over a decade?

Actually in that same 10 year period I could learn to speak perfect Spanish. Why can't others learn to speak perfect English?

Without an accent to people for whom Spanish is their first language? Good luck with that.

After 10 years of being surround by nothing but Hispanic speaking people, I would think your speech would adapt to the region.

Precisely. Hispanic laborers who come to the U.S. to work are pretty much surrounded by other "Hispanic speaking" laborers and go home at night to their largely "Hispanic speaking" families and communities. That is why they speak Spanish so darn well!

Probably not as well as you think. I have some family friends that moved to the U.S. from Italy when they were less than 12 years old. They all speak perfect English, but you can instantly spot the Italian accent. They are in their 50s and have extremely minimal contact with anyone that speaks Italian. That accent just never completely went away. The oldest brother has the thickest accent and the youngest has the most slight accent.

My dad had been in the US since the late 1950's. He has spoken nothing but English since the day he arrived. Everyone can still hear a heavy Italian accent when he speaks today.

People have to actively try to change their accent. Most people don't want to and have one the rest of their lives.

I don't think it just a question of wanting to or not. Our brains are not all wired the same, picking up languages and mimicking accents come easily to some people and not to others. Some professional actors can't pick up an accent even with help of a vocal coach on the set (see Kevin Costner as Robin Hood or Keanu Reeves in several films where he tried to sound British and failed miserably).

Not saying it's easy, it requires practice over a very long time and a goal of permanently changing the way you speak. Even then the accent will come back occasionally. I've done it myself since I didn't like the way I pronounced some words.

And why bother? What's wrong with an accent? Seems like women usually like an accent.

Sure, if it's a British, French, Italian, etc. accent. Not so much if it's a Boston accent.
