If you own Edelman -and- Thompkins .... come on in (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
I can already see it's going to be a headache deciding between these guys every week (assuming they don't trade for Gordon or someone else). I would imagine that none of you really want to start BOTH of them, so what are you basing your decision on going forward?

Is it as simple as "Start Edelman if it's a PPR" and "Start Thompkins if it's a non-PPR"?

Would really like to hear some thoughts on this.

Although this week is looking like a nice spot to roll them both out there on Sunday night.

In Atlanta, no weather concerns, you can throw on the Falcons and the Pats figure to be playing from behind.

How about start neither of them?

With Gronkowski and Amendola possibly returning I'm not all that enthusiastic about the targets available for Thompkins. I think Edelman will get some targets but the routes they've thrown to him in the past week or so are all within 10 yards. Don't believe either is a high upside play.

I could see starting Edelman in a PPR league, but Thompkins got less targets than Dobson last week and imo Dobson looked better overall. I think you could do better with pickups off the waiver wire this week.

Definitely possible I'm expecting too much out of both guys. I keep expecting Brady to lift them up to levels that maybe they're just not capable of. The rising tide, and all that. I'll worry about Gronk and Amendola when they come back. Sure will be interesting to see how the targets are divided then.

I own Brady and Vereen in the same league, BTW. I went 4-deep with players from the NFL team I hate the most. :wall:

What is a resonable return on Edelman? Wanting to sell him now before Gronk and Amendola are back. Hoping to unload him for a RB.

After this week? Hard to say, week 2 was the highest Edelman's value will ever be.

I'm still holding him though, not sure who I will start this week or if neither.

If Gronk returns they both look to improve imo, unless Danny also returns then look for Edelman's value to plummet.

Agree with the bolded. I've heard people suggest that Gronk's return hurts the other receivers. I don't see it. He's not going to catch EVERY pass, and he'll open things up for everyone else. As far as DA hurting Edelman's value, that remains to be seen. They each played a ton of snaps together in week 1 when both were healthy.

Danny was hurt in the middle of that game and came off the field for almost a quarter. Also Boyce was inactive and Dobson was hurt.

Plenty to go around in New England. The only one who stands to become fantasy irrelevant would be Edelman, but that's if, and it's a huge if, Amendola stays healthy. But with Amendola and Gronk healthy, Thompkins will still get the downfield and sideline looks.

I was giving context for the snap counts that I was already aware of, they were really diminished in week 1, Thompkins and Edelman started as the outside WRs and Danny started as the slot receiver, pretty much every formation was 3 wide.
