NOPE - life of suburbia!@#!#

I’m watching 6 people practice Tai Chi rn. One hipster white guy and five geriatric Asians. They’re marching slowly around a tree (soft music playing on an Amazon Tap), one hand extended palm down, the other palm facing the tree.

Super common in certain parts of lower Manhattan, but a genuine novelty in Williamsburg/Greenpoint (Brooklyn.)

Just saw about 100 fat people jogging, taking over the right lane of Houston St (major E/W thoroughfare in NYC).

Saw a homeless guy with a giant top-shelf carnival prize animal.  It was a black and white dog or a panda or something.  The stuffed animal was sitting in a folding chair and the guy was on the sidewalk.
Update:  the stuffed animal has been abandoned in front of a chain link fence.  It was a dog.

On my drive in to work today, saw a car completely upside down and the people that were in the car just sitting on the highway.

A fraternity brother had a daughter not that long ago, a little baby daughter named Jennifer. He and his wife are nowhere near mature enough to be parents. I'm positive of that. After they fed her, she passed out, so they wrote on her with a magic marker.

Walking to work up 8th Ave today, a gentleman about five feet in front of me had a six-inch rat dart out of a closed storefront and run full speed into his right foot. He did not handle it well.

Looked out my office window a few minutes ago and on the sidewalk was a guy dressed in a full chicken suit getting into an Uber/Lyft vehicle

Got the alternator fixed and was on my way home after a couple of days at a buddy's -  on the way home - going about 85. I take my foot off the gas as I see a cruiser in the median way down the road. This guy in a pickup comes up behind me and is on my rear bumper. Scruffy looking dude in a beat up truck and he flashing his high beams at me etc to get me to get the heck out of his way. I did. He got pulled over. I had slowed down to just over the speed limit. I tried to save him but when he gave his high beam for the 3rd time, I thought - good luck buddy.  I guess he got what he deserved.

Last night driving home from work at night I saw a pale humanoid looking creature run in front of my car. I was doing about 55 and the creature came from my right and ran  in front of my car and into the desert on my left. It looked hairless and very pale. On all fours I would say it was taller then the hood of my car. It appeared fairly large. I about #### myself as I thought for sure I was going to hit it. Knock on wood I have yet to hit an animal on this road but I have had several close calls. Lots of javelina, coyote, skunk, jackalopes, bobcats etc...

I think what I saw was a coyote with that skin disease that makes them lose their hair. The size of it and the speed is what confuses me.

I guess it could have been an alien.

Hm, last night I was walking my dogs (as always every night) and we happened upon - really almost walked right over - this huge, y’all, bird standing on the side of the sidewalk. It was the color of the night, some sort of blue purple dark grey, and it spread its wings and flew off soundlessly. It might have disappeared not 10 feet from taking off, not sure. Really amazing, I have no idea what it is.

An odd raven or blackbird?

I have no clue about birds in your area. Are there black water/sea birds?

This is cool.

No, this thing is big, he's got to be a marsh bird. Stands on long legs, has a big wingspan. And he's midnight blue, color of the sky. I'll look into it and see if I can find a pic, still not sure how to search for it though.

Every once in a while I’ll see something and think about sharing here but it’s almost never thread worthy on it’s on.  So, in here post the weird/awesome/funny thing you saw today.

I actually had 2 yesterday:

- Driving out of my neighborhood I see a couple on a tandem bike riding back in to the neighborhood.  I’m not sure I’ve seen a tandem bike in use in many years but what made it even more unusual was that it wasn’t just a for fun thing - both of them were in serious bike gear and looked to be in training

- Later that day my wife and I went to the park to walk.  As we are done and leaving we get to the parking lot and there’s a guy standing at the back of his truck with the tailgate down.  He has dumbbell weights in the back of his truck and he’s pulling them out and doing curls and then sits them back in the truck.  I was

So, what craziness did you see today?
Saw that couple I mentioned before with their tandem again last night.  They had made some pretty significant improvements to it, made me think of this thread so I thought I'd share.

1st - tandem bikes have two chains on them.  One from the front rider (the captain) to the back rider (the stoker), and a second one from the stoker to the rear wheel hub/cassette.  They replaced that front chain with a belt.  Yes, they now have a belt driven tandem bike.  I'm into bikes....and I've never seen that (I've seen belts on single speed, single person bikes....a belt is lighter than a chain).

2nd - the only shifting now occurs at the rear wheel, and they went to an 12 speed cassette (pretty much the most gears you can get on a cassette these days - my carbon mtn bike still has a 10 speed drive train).  Not only is it a 12 speed....the shifter is the new shimano di2 technology.....which is a wireless standard.  The guy in front has a shifter that isn't connected to the derallier with a cable...but rather with a wireless protocol, like blutooth.

3rd - handmade wheels.

They also showed up to ride around 8:30, so they had lights on the bike and their helmets - they were night riding.

All in, they put around $1,500 worth of stuff on a frame that might be worth $400.  Made me laugh.

Hanging with my daughter in Hell’s Kitchen (Midtown West), she’s playing with the neighbors rainbow 🌈 colored French poodle.

That’s green colored feet (top 2/3rds of the legs were left white & shaved), white shaved sides, purple bangs, and 4-5 colors down the Mohawk back.

Pride month, probably doesn’t even qualify for this thread.

Saw a woman turn left out of the parking lot of a local Mexican restaurant. Why is that crazy you ask? Because the road she turned onto is a divided highway with a median fence. Since she couldn't get across the median, she simply turned left into oncoming traffic, drove half a block to the next traffic light and patiently waited until she could merge right into the correct lane and continue on her merry way.

Two guys rolling a five foot pig roaster / smoker down the street to the park in Brooklyn. Smoke pouring out the two short stacks on top. About a 4-5 block trip. 100+ people in the park waiting for the pig to arrive.
