Indefinite Las Vegas Raiders thread - ☠ The Mork and Brady show ☠ (1 Viewer)

How the Raiders Found a Diamond in the Rough with DE Chaisson

In 48 games over four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, defensive end K'Lavon Chaisson registered five sacks. In 10 games with the Las Vegas Raiders, he has record 2.5 sacks, including an impressive performance against the Kansas City Chiefs on Black Friday.

Chaisson was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, he never quite met the expectations of being a first-round draft pick, which was partially his fault and partially the fault of the organization that drafted him.

Still, Chaisson is not the only talented player who did not do well in Jacksonville, only to do well elsewhere. He has been a welcomed addition to a Raiders defense that is missing multiple starters and desperately needs talent.

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce credited Chaisson with a productive game against the Chiefs.

"I thought it was a good breakout game for him,” Pierce said. “We had those two penalties early. We kind of reset him on that one. But that game last week was very similar to what Malcolm Koonce was able to do as well last year when we had three sacks. I think he had a sack and a half, multiple hits on the quarterback, pressures, and did a good job rushing.

"Again, we know we're getting from Maxx [Crosby] every play, right? They're sliding that way. They're tripping him. Hell, we even got triple-team several times with Maxx. Somebody else has a one-on-one, and he took advantage of him. And listen, he has first-round talent, first-round traits, and I think he really understands what his role is for us. He doesn't need to be that premier pass rusher like we have with Maxx. Be that role player and really accept that role, and he's done a good job of doing it."

"He's a powerful man. That's why I said when you look at him and just see how he's built; lower base, wide hips, big butt, hell does a really good job of playing with long arms and playing with extension. So, I mean, there's a reason why he went first round, and you can see it."

I think he was talking about the Raiders.
Oh snap I didn't follow the context. I was curious about the "#1" part when talking about the Giants :ROFLMAO:

So yeah, SoS is not our friend. Once again we get screwed by having lost to a powerhouse division while cupcakes get the prizes.

New England could win against Arizona, and Carolina has Arizona and Atlanta both (and is playing much better overall). Jags play us, NYJ, and TEN so with a little luck all three of them get a win in there too.

So long as the Raiders keep losing...

They’re going to get our hopes up for the #1 overall pick, only to win a couple of meaningless games at the end and we’ll fall to something like the 7th pick and have to reach for a QB.

Top 2 pick or bust!!!!

(Well, we have the “or bust” part down)

That Jaguars game looms large... heck the next three games are all very winnable and you never know what's going to happen when they face the Chargers in week 18.

Atlanta is fading, bad, the Jags are rolling Mac Jones and the Saints just lost Carr RoS.

2-11 now with the #1 overall pick. Where does 5-11 land them?

Not like #1 QB picks are a lock for success

You should be careful using the word bust in relation to raider drafts.

Lock or not, they have no choice at all. Must draft a franchise QB. If he’s a bust, so be it. Rinse and repeat. Can NOT have another Minshew/O’Connell year. Need to instill some HOPE in Raider fandom.

Nah. They always have a choice. Until we get a proper read on any generational prospects available at OT, DT and DE, I'm not committing to the draft a QB at all costs narrative. Jawalrus Russell was picked ahead of Calvin Johnson, Joe Thomas, Adrian Peterson, Patrick Willis and Darrelle Revis, among others. They always have a choice.

The other debate should be about whether or not to keep AP. Like with passing on a QB, if the right alternative comes available...

The Raiders have had many horrible seasons over the last 20 years, but this season feels like it’s taking forever. Maybe because most of us saw this disaster coming back in August?

It’s time for a new young coach to choose his QB from the draft and start over. Let’s hope the Raiders lose out to make this happen.

If they love a QB then of course they should take him. If not then take a player they do think is an impact player. It's different than last year hopefully picking so high this year, but what if they passed on Bowers for a garbage QB....

Last year we shouldve gone Qb only if one of the consensus top 6 QBs was there (Williams, Daniels, Maye, McCarthy, Nix, Penix) imho.
Every single one of those guys brings HOPE of a future franchise QB that we haven’t had since we first drafted Carr.

If we’re in the top 2 or 3 picks this coming year, and there is a concensus 2 or 3 franchise level QBs, I think this organization, in the state it’s been in for SO LONG, needs to swing for the fences and go for it by drafting a rookie QB.

I can see that. However, if they win another game or two and are picking anywhere after Ward and Sanders are gone I don't think it's wise to limit the options to QB and nothing else. I do not like the other QBs after those two guys.

Not even remotely. While I hope they get the #1 pick and grab Ward or Sanders I am highly skeptical the current staff is well suited to develop a franchise QB.

If they have the #1 or #2 pick I would hope they clean house and bring in a Ben Johnson, Todd Monken type to increase the chances of developing a true franchise QB.

How many of the teams in the running for the top picks are in need of a QB ?
Current draft order is:
Giants - need a QB
Raiders - need a QB
NE - don’t need a QB
Panthers- hopefully Young keeps improving so they don’t draft a rookie QB
Browns - need a QB but are they “stuck” with Watson for another year?
Jets -need a QB
Titans - maybe?
Jacksonville - maybe?
Bears - no
Saints - maybe but just drafted rookie QBs the last 2 years

So, yeah, there’s competition for rookie QBs at the top of the draft, depending on how far we drop if we win a game or two more.

Thank you, very informative , much appreciated

Maxx to have season ending ankle surgery. At least that increases the chances of getting the top pick.
They should treat the rest of the season like preseason and start only backups
Funny. When we talk about losing out, it is exactly a player like Maxx that I feel horrible for. To be playing your *** off and still losing…must be hugely demoralizing.
So I was actually happy when I read the news about Maxx being shut down for the season. Not just for the Raiders odds of getting a better draft pick, but also for Maxx’s psyche.

QB class keeps taking hits. Garrett Nussmeier already announced he's staying and Penn State backup QB is in the portal now, skipping the College Playoffs, so that likely means Drew Allar is staying in school too. The loss of depth now means getting a top pick is that much more critical.

I'd hate to see him go but I would have been thrilled for Maxx if the Raiders had traded him to Detroit after they lost Hutch. Dude deserves to contend for trophies.

1 more loss down, 3 more to go.

So sad to watch this crappy team. Losing is for the best to get one of the top 2 QBs, but man these guys gotta be hating it.

Add special teams/special teams coaching to the list of things that need to be fixed. Two blocked punts and a fair catch inside the 5 leading to a safety. I tuned in and that was a tough watch last night.

They’re still fighting. Which is a good thing….
Which says a lot for the coaching staff and players. They are decimated all over the roster with injuries have the worst record in the league but still are putting everything they got into it. I didn't see anyone just quitting out there.

This is a very young team which is good news when you are trying to build. Get healthy, make some moves, get the high pick and QB and this is a much better team than a 2-12. This last draft was a great one to build off of.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire released. Though a Chef, it sucks, the poor kid has been dealing with PTSD from a robbery where either him or his friend killed the robber. His struggles isn't for a lack of talent. Maybe pick him up and get him a ton of mental health assistance. If he is able to move on from the PTSD that would be a huge addition to the RB room.

Giants, Raiders lead race for No. 1 in 2025 NFL Draft

Tue Dec 17 8:12am ET
Field Level Media
An averted comeback sent the Las Vegas Raiders to their 12th loss of the season on Monday, even with the New York Giants for the worst record in the NFL this season.

The Giants (2-12) are up on the Raiders (2-12) by mere percentage points with three weeks remaining in the race for the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Schedule strength indicates more than a two-horse field for the premium placement in the 2025 draft.

The New England Patriots (3-11) are No. 1 in the NFL with two dates against the Buffalo Bills (11-3) and a Week 17 visit from the Los Angeles Chargers (8-6).

The Chicago Bears appeared to be out of the running for a repeat of the No. 1 pick but dropped to 4-10 in a blowout 30-12 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday. The setback put the Bears in the top 10 of the current draft order in the shadow of the New York Jets (4-10).

But the Patriots, Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns all reside a rung higher in the order with three wins with three to play.

In the franchise's 100th season, the Giants appear to be a lock to select in the top six of the draft for the fifth time in seven years since selecting Saquon Barkley with the second overall pick in 2018.

The Raiders last picked in the top three in 2007 when they selected LSU's JaMarcus Russell No. 1. Hall of Famers Calvin Johnson (Detroit Lions) was No. 2 and Joe Thomas (Browns) third.

Here's the current order for the 2025 NFL Draft:

1. New York Giants

2. Las Vegas Raiders

3. New England Patriots

4. Carolina Panthers

5. Tennessee Titans

6. Jacksonville Jaguars

7. Cleveland Browns

8. New York Jets

9. Chicago Bears

10. New Orleans Saints

11. Miami Dolphins

12. Cincinnati Bengals

13. Dallas Cowboys

14. Indianapolis Colts

15. San Francisco 49ers

16. Arizona Cardinals

17. Atlanta Falcons

18. Seattle Seahawks

19. Los Angeles Chargers

20. Los Angeles Rams

21. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

22. Washington Commanders

23. Denver Broncos

24. Houston Texans

25. Baltimore Ravens

26. Pittsburgh Steelers

27. Green Bay Packers

28. Buffalo Bills

29. Minnesota Vikings

30. Philadelphia Eagles

31. Detroit Lions

32. Kansas City Chiefs

I have to say - I was super impressed with the intensity of the D. I kept seeing number 44 - what’s the deal with him? He played fast and angry.

He’s been a bright spot. Picked off the trash heap. Former 1st round pick. He’s played well

The fact that they seem to be trying and NOT tanking is wild . Id rather have the excuse that they are tanking and not just really bad .
You'd rather the players quit and not give effort? Like it or not guys that are on this year's team will be on next year's team. They will be better next year when the injured players are healthy and who would want guys that quit the year before?

Thats not what im saying, im saying it shows how bad they really are , at least if they were quitting you couldnt blame lack of talent or coaching.

I think it can be both.

Great that our guys are trying and not quitters. Bodes well for the future of the team.

Scary that another roster reject (Chaisson) can join our squad and stand out so much making plays. Either speaks to him being reinvigorated in a new environment, or the fact that our talent level stinks, or both.

Players seldom quit and the silver lining about these situations is you can identify the ones who do.

Even this team will struggle to lose to both the Jags and Saints. 4-13 seems more realistic.

I don't know... I like that they are fighting but we have 5 starters on defense on IR including our best three defenders and leader of the secondary. On offense, after Meyer and Tucker, can you name a WR that is active? I can't. I had to look it up and I don't know either of their names. Sam Webb and Nate Hobbs have not practiced all week and are questionable. They haven't given up which you want to see but they are severely depleted.
