Indefinite New York Jets Official thread - **2025 season** - The indefinite rebuild continues (3 Viewers)

well thats a wrap on any long shot playoff thoughts....absolutely smoked by a mid Arizona team. The "experiment" is officially a disaster. Time to root for losses again - not that I have any faith in them making a pick.

No clue where to go from here - no decent coach will go near them after this mess. Stop fantasizing about a Woody selling - wont happen.......Our awful owner will be fleeing to England to leave the franchise in the hands of perhaps the only person on Earth who was worse than Woody.

The monster draft class has been reduced to ashes - Rodgers cap hit will be crippling.

I honestly can't believe the Pats were able to tear it down post Brady, rebuild and have a franchise QB and better team than the Jets.

Honestly dont know where to go from here - zero hope or expectations after this disaster.

Thank goodness for bourbon
you know they’re gonna win just enough to pick around 12-15. jets gonna jet. at least JD used a pick on jordan travis!

Yeah, its clear its a total rebuild now (likely delayed by a year due to a bunch of dead money)

Hoping Rodgers just graciously walks away now. Its not all his fault, but he's washed. That's plain to see at this point. Flip Adams for whatever picks you can get (even if it causes some dead money) and I dont think many on the roster are untradeable at this point (Given the fact that you're starting over at QB).

Sauce Gardner's fall-off will be studied for generations. He was obviously never going to be Rod Woodsen as a tackler, but now he's a total non-factor out there (not nearly the cover man he was the first 2 years). No INT's.....about to demand a big contract.....I think you have to seriously consider flipping him.

At least they TRIED to go for it......but it was an absolute epic failure. Yesterday was an absolute clown show.

As I said, he has a lot of reasons ($$$$) not to retire - but a guy the crafts his image so carefully probably doesn't want to further embarrass himself on the field, and to be fair he is taking a beating out there. He made a ton and will make millions in a media career.

Ideally next year we see a camp battle between Tyrod Taylor (or another solid veteran if his contract is up), Jordan Travis and a mid-round rookie QB. Start the rebuild and don't worry about finding a true franchise QB until the roster is back in shape. Maybe they get lucky and Travis is the answer. He looked good at Florida State before getting injured.

Apparently he was only pressured on 7 snaps yesterday. But yes, over the course of the year, he's taken far more punishment that expected (or that you'd want for a 41 year old QB)

He got grabbed around the lower leg at one point and went down awkwardly late in second half - didn't think he'd come back out since they were getting blown out. I do think his older frail looking body and lack of mobility doesn't help.

I believe that if Rodgers believes this team is nowhere near ready to compete, then why would he want to stick around? He doesn't need this. I also don't believe that Rodgers completely defines himself with football. but obviously I could be wrong, because after all, none of us knows Aaron Rodgers.

Interesting debate on Rodgers future - yes he would be leaving a ton of $ on the table but he is a strange dude and lives his carefully cultivated image. He very well may not want to endure another season of this and retire - or retire ala Favre and return in the summer demanding a trade to a competitive team. Either way I just cant envision another season of Rodgers a year older but its out of their control. If he wants to come back he will. However, Id make it clear to him that if he does he is not running the show anymore and he is simply a bridge QB for one year before they can cut bait on that contract without it crushing them.

As for ownership - As much as I hate the Johnsons and politics - this situation is something that should be dealt with by the NFL. If Woody wants to be a politician then go be one - Id love to see them force him to sell as this really is not good for the NFL and the franchise. Look how bad they are with Woody giving 100% of his attention lol. Still its a pipe dream and im getting ready for baby bro to take another swing at it - hopefully he doesnt get star struck again and take advice from former players who have no vested interest in the Jets.

As for next year - I know any GM/HC position is valuable but just cant see a solid candidate for either coming here at this point - Rodgers drama, the owner is now openly meddling without his GMs input - who would walk into this mess?

Those of you that know me positing here for probably 20 yrs and I usually am optimistic at least for the future - this is the first time I can remember where Im struggling to see anything positive. Even the vaunted rookie class from a few years ago have taken a monster step back.

Lousy meddling owner, no HC/GM/QB, underperforming players - wake me up for the inevitable late season run to ruin draft position and try to give false hope....I know everyone will say they stink and its impossible but I have 30 yrs that says theyll finish outside the top 10 picks easily.

Depressing

Aaron Rodgers only completed 2 passes that went more than 7 yards

Breece Hall gets 5 yards per carry

Definitely need to throw more

Back to pure football - How's that big contract for Hassan Reddick commin?

I honestly can't remember his name being called once during the game - admittedly I switched to RedZone for the second half, but since only 3 games were on they still showed a lot of the Jets game.

That's Reddick in a nutshell. He'll have games where you don't even know he played. But when the game is close at the end, he always showed up and made a big play at a crucial point in the game.

prized JD deal. then stupid woody gets involved, ruining leverage. i would’ve let the guy sit out or traded him. his contract was not guaranteed. another hired contractor.

Where do you see him making millions in a media career? Not sure any of the major sports networks would touch him.

He’s already on ESPN weekly.
There’s a lot of media out there now and people seem interested in the guy.

the question on rodgers is, if he retires he loses what, $24mill? otherwise, he has a cap hit of that amount? so, is he enough of a tool to hang on for his money and force a jest decision?

I think Rodgers has to go either through retirement or being cut. Jets can’t begin rebuild with Rodgers on the roster.

And then just focus on the trenches. Take a play from the Lions rebuild - there fans were saying the same thing Jets fans are now. And then they invested heavily in O and D lines and it has paid off handsomely.

But jets need to cut bloated salaries. And let Gardner walk or listen to trades.

In his defense he might really love the game of football and want to keep playing.

yeah, but they need to hit on their picks. douglas basically wasted premium picks on AVT and Becton. He also used a 1st on Fashalu and Tippmann was a 2. DL wise he has Williams, McDonald, JJ as 1s. just so many wasted picks and bad signings over the years has crippled this team.

No doubt - next year would be a great time to purge some dead weight and take the cap hits.

i’m sure he loves the game, but he looks beat up and old. with no path to winning next year with the jest, maybe he finds a new home elsewhere. sad thing is, he is still better than wilson and darnold and that tells you a lot about the jest an situation. this is a league with qb mobility needed to force defenses, rodgers is basically in the same spot all the time nowadays.

and this will be done with an interim owner, new gm and new coaching staff.

It really, really, really should be Tyrod Time.
Not gonna happen, nor should it. Rodgers is a shell of his former self, but he's hardly the biggest issue with this team.
He’s a pretty big issue to be honest. His accuracy and lack of mobility have been a big part of the offensive struggles.
Agreed - I'm more shellshocked about the defense's big step back though. I figured they'd be somewhat of a ball control team that limits turnovers, stabilized by a strong defense, but the defense's inability to stop anyone has put them in a lot more passing situations and has exposed Rodgers where he is at this stage of his career.

what’s interesting is it seems the jest cbs never get INTs. gardner has 2 in his entire time, so does reed. somehow brandon echols has 4. they just can’t get a big stop, big TO or get off the field on 3rd down. i fear they will draft a big fat slug to clog the middle next year in round 1. hey, maybe dwayne robertson can be redrafted!

Hard to get upset anymore, it is what it is. Without an ownership change or a massive change in organizational philosophy (like appointing a new head of Football Operations), this is just the way it is. Oh well. Man, those teams that have great organizational structures in place for decades are just shooting ducks in a barrel with the rest of these teams in this league. It takes quite a bit to break that cycle.

Yup - and we'll be back again in August/September for renewed hope.

Probably not for 2025.

Unfortunately I say that every year, but in true Jets fan fashion, I'm a glutton for punishment.

I am a total glutton for punishment, my kids have learned great lessons from the disappointments of being a fan of this team, helps them in the real world, lol.

I'll be back with enthusiasm once again, but there is not a more accurate portrayal of a being a Jets fan than Lucy and the football with Charlie Brown.

there is no way i can spend money to watch them thru an nfl only package anymore. i’d rather plant the money and see if a money tree grows.

Listening to a bunch of podcasts - heard a name that actually made me interested and should be very possible. John Gruden. Offensive coach with HC/playoff/SB experience. Looking to get back in the mix after the Raider mess. Enough time has passed from his issues - perhaps he and Woody are desperate enough. Id rather go this route than yet another young coordinator - thoughts?

No. His Raiders drafts with Mayock were the worst in NFL memory.

I'd be willing to give it a try. He's had a successful track record and has a good demeanor that would be the opposite of Saleh's "nice guy" approach.

I'm leaning towards Kliff Kingsbury. I'd love to watch a real offense for once. He has HC experience, is coordinating one of the best offenses in the league and showed he can work with a rookie QB.

true but he also put together some other nice teams - if not him who would get you excited that is realistic?

I'd be hesitant to go with an old school coach who the game has probably passed by and who may not be able to relate to today's players. The young coordinator route hasn't worked either, but probably because they're going after the wrong one.

I'd love to see them make a play for Ben Johnson if he's available, but not sure he'd want the job.

If not Gruden - I like Kingsbury - offensive, young, HC experience - question is would he be in demand enough to avoid this dumpster fire or can he be gotten?

He'd be my #1 but zero chance he take this mess on - he will have his pick of most jobs. He'll go somewhere with a good young QB

My guess is that he's probably going to Chicago.

Kingsbury is an interesting thought - have to think he's jonesing to get another HC gig and who knows how many options he'll have.

He will be in demand - his offense would work great with Tyrod Taylor (or perhaps Travis Jordan or a mobile rookie QB) - look at what the slug Mariotta was able to do.

How many job openings are we expecting? Jets. New Orleans are obvious - Dallas? Raiders? Bears?

If the Bears job opens. that's likely the most attractive roster for him (but will also be for other candidates).

Definite jobs open - all better than Jets: Jax, Dallas, Bears,

Possible jobs open - Browns, Titans, Giants, Saints, Raiders

Thats about 8 - maybe Giants, Browns and Titans give one more year so at best 5...however there is always a shock or 2 so Id expect anywhere from 6-8 openings. Where would the Jets fall in that group? At the bottom with Woody....with no QB and unresolved Rodgers issues it may be the bottom.

Keep an eye on Todd Monken Balt OC - he was in the mix for the HC last time - has helped himself in Balt - young, offensive, checks a lot of boxes.

Other offensive up and comers - Slowick from Texans, Brady from Buffalo, Liam Cohen from Tampa

Gruden, Kingsbury, Monken would top my list at this early point - main thing is no defensive coach for once - as tempting as it would be to bring in all time Jet like Aaron Glen.
