Indefinite Tampa Bay Bucs thread: Somehow not on the list of teams to never have won a Super Bowl (1 Viewer)

Some people are dogging this move saying "Incognito isn't that good anyways...". Exactly how many "good" players are generally available after the 3rd preseason game? Also, what exactly does this say about our current guards if he apparently isn't that good, and they are still willing to bring him in?

As awful as the Incognito/Martin saga was, make no mistake that Miami has one of the worst HC in the NFL. Nobody survives what he did last year and not even take a smidge of the blame, incredible how the owner runs things down there.

It wouldn't shock me if the Bucs are smart enough to jump on him, sign him, they got lots of vets or leaders on that team that will crush Incognito if he were to get out of line and I doubt he would. Truth is he was doing great in Miami until that situation happened. Scratch that, he was a jerk to a female at a golf event but we really didn't hear much about that until the other story caught fire.

Great news for the skill position players who I was already liking. Bucs are going to surprise a few people. McCoy/Lovie, Sapp/Dungy, let's start there but the similarities including a journeyman QB are pretty startling. Should shock no one that Lovie Smith is running the Tony Dungy playbook for putting a team together, he's done it before. If anyone can take Rex Grossman into a Super Bowl as a starter, Josh McCown should be an easy return for Lovie :)

@FieldYates: As @JayGlazer first reported, the Patriots have traded G Logan Mankins to the Bucs for TE Tim Wright & a draft pick, league source confirms.

Being a Steelers fans I've seen various guards/centers come off the street and fill in and be ok adjusting to the offense. I can't help but be massively excited about Doug Martin's fantasy perspectives given the news, Mankins should come in immediately and bring legitimacy to the Bucs line. Maybe they still bring Incognito on and I think that would be a boon.

Wow. Great deal for the Bucs.
Depends on what the draft pick is. Pats lose a guy with a $10-11M a year cap hit and get back a guy that will cost them only $500K a year and a draft pick. I suspect in reality this will amount to trading Mankins to re-sign Revis and get a young TE and a draft pick in the process.

As a Saints fan this deal makes me sad.

Long term it makes sense for the Pats. You simply shouldn't have OG's taking up that much of a salary cap. Short term though, this deal will hurt their running game.

The Pats were prepared to cut Mankins and BB reached out to an old friend and was able to fill a need at TE and get a 4th round pick. Seems like a pretty good move for a guy that would have been cut in a week. I don't know enough about the Buc's line situation to call this a total fleecing by that Pats but Mankins made the Pro Bowl last year on reputation, not performance. His best days are well in the past.

Sounds nice. But I suspect not an accurate portrayal. Mankins participated in a fundraiser for BB's charitable foundation last night and was featured in an on stage roundtable. From all reports out of camp this afternoon, people were shocked and stunned at the trade. I have heard nothing to suggest Mankins was underperforming in camp or had eroding skills. Similarly, the Pats were not struggling to get under the cap.

If I were to guess, the Pats asked LM to take a pay cut or rework his deal and he said no way. The two sides were never BFFs, and a showdown was probably lurking eventually. The Pats generally will jettison a player a year early rather than a year too late, so they sent Mankins packing.

I would guess he has a year or two left as a good performing guard. IIRC, he ranked 18th overall at the position last year. He was probably at or near the top still for NE's OL, so for people to jump on the bandwagon to suggest he was getting cut or has no game left were not suggesting that a day ago.

This, pretty much. This is Belichick 101.

Actually, it's Belichick 102 as he actually traded Mankins and got something for him.

Wow, even if Mankins isn't what he once was, this has to be viewed as an immediate upgrade at a key position of need for the Bucs -- LOVE it!!!
