Indefinite Tampa Bay Bucs thread: Somehow not on the list of teams to never have won a Super Bowl (1 Viewer)

There's always Brazil 2016 for Demps. Well, maybe he can make the final spot on a men's relay team.

It seems like a lot of fans, and sports radio hosts  , are upset about them passing on Manziel? I still don't see why anyone would think he would have been a fit for Lovie/Tedford.

I mean, he could make it but if he does I imagine he would really have to shine as a kick return weapon. I doubt he plays a whole lot in front of Simms and Herron, who both seem to have a lot more recent football experience and reps.

Demps really hasn't played in two years.

The one thing I have learned as a Bucs fan is you can never have enough running backs. It seems like every year we are down to our 3rd guy.

Surprised Wright isn't listed as a projected starter. I also wouldn't say the Bucs are a sexy pick to make the playoffs. They still play in a division with NO, Atl, and Car. Tough sledding. I'll be happy with breaking .500.

There were some positive things that came out about Chris Owusu yesterday. He was lighting up practice last year, but it didn't translate over to the preseason games. Let's see if he can hold it together this season.

As far as fantasy value Martin, V-Jax, and Evans are likely to be overvalued. The value will be found in the 3rd WR (Owusu, Herron, Shepard, Demps), TE (whether Tim Wright, ASJ, or both), or a backup RB like Simms. QB could also be a good QBBC option this season .

I'm not sure about playoffs either but I will say the Bucs did have the hardest schedule in the league last year, so some bounce back has to be expected. Poor Glennon had to face the NFC West & a year when Carolina & NO had their best defenses in years as a rookie.

Any chance that Sims carves out a role? He was a fairly high draft pick Think he overtakes the #2 job.
Likely to be the 3rd down back pending his blocking ability. He should lead all the RB's in receptions. Considering Tedford's history at Cal using two RB's both Sims and Martin should have big roles.

Another positive story about Demps,

TAMPA

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Jeff Demps has spent his football career moonlighting as a track star. Or maybe hes spent his track career moonlighting as a football player.

Either way, for the first time since leaving the University of Florida three years ago, Demps is completely devoted to football, which makes this the first time he has fully participated in his teams offseason workout program.

The extra work Demps has put in on the football field this year is starting to pay dividends. Though hes hardly a lock to earn a roster spot, Demps is definitely turning heads.

Every day it seems like hes done something to catch my eye, Bucs coach Lovie Smith said of Demps.

Demps will have to continue to impress to earn a job with the Bucs. Working alongside Doug Martin, Mike James, Bobby Rainey and rookie Charles Sims, hes one member of what may be the deepest position group on the team.

All but Sims have proven themselves capable of gaining big yards and making big plays in the clutch, but Smith made it clear following a workout in which Demps lost a fumble last week that he likes the former Olympic sprinters potential.

I tend to look at that ceiling and see the things they can do, Smith said. Hes not perfect by any means, but hes doing more (good than bad). I dont remember (the fumble), but those other things, I remember all of them.

Demps came to Tampa Bay as part of the April 2013 trade that sent running back LeGarrette Blount to New England. Demps, part of the 2012 U.S. Olympic silver-medal winning 4x100 meter relay team, did not join the Bucs last season until September, after participating in the IAAF World Championships.

He played in two games last season before going on injured reserve with a groin injury.

I heard we may not have a FB on the roster and could use a TE like one. They said Chip Kelly does this or something. So for anyone trying to guess what Redford is trying to do we may be able to get flu s from the Eagles...

So we have no idea who is going to be starting at our guard positions come week 1, and chances are the guy may not be on our team. They have been rotating Cousins, Meredith, Omameah, and the rookie Kareem Edwards. I think they should give Incognito a chance. Poor guy should of knocked out his girlfriend instead of bullying Martin.

The WR position is also going to be interesting to watch.

V-Jax, Evans, and the rookie Herein are probably the only locks to make the team.

Owusu, Murphy, Streeter, Hawkins, Page, Russell Shepard, Dawson are the guys fighting to make the team.

I saw a tweet from PR saying Bowers was getting chewed out today. They have him playing DT on the 2nd string. I'm not sure what that is about. He pretty much blamed Schiano for sucking when he tweeted something along the lines of "can't wait to have someone here who can COACH..."

This is all to familiar to when Michael Clayton smeared Gruden on his way out, and then sucked. But, thanks to Mark Dominick he was able to bank 10 mil.

From having two on-paper studs at G to rotating scrubs -- good times! With all the pressure that comes up the middle these days, it'll be a long season for the Bucs' O this year...

Hopefully they can mine waivers here pretty quick for someone who can fill in. Charles Sims needs to make an immediate impact or we are going to be wondering "what if" on all of those 3rd round guards taken after that pick.

The QB is going to get rid of the ball fast enough that it may mask the weakness at G. They aren't going to be pounding the ball like they did the last few years either. Athletic linemen has taken a priority over big ones.

This is the time the buzz on players starts. So far I am hearing ASJ, Simms, Streeter impressing.

Brooks

3 Hall of Famers inducted and a Super Bowl since 95. Things aren't always that bad around here I suppose.

What's the word on Evans in camp? It's been awful quite in that regard. Also I'm hearing ASJ is beasting. Can anybody confirm?

I haven't read anything negative. I have read that he has made some great catches.

So far nobody is generating a buzz like Mike Williams did his rookie year. That may have also been because he was a somewhat obscure 4th round pick. Evans & ASJ already have pretty high expectations.

dunno but Jax tried it a few years back with limited success. granted it's Jax, but height isn't the be all and end all. it all starts up front and I'm pretty concerned about our guards... will be interesting to see how they play this year, but, given the division we're in, I'm expecting another .500ish season.

Cousins & Meredith are starting the preseason game. I'm surprised we don't look at Incognito. He was better than both these guys.

Bought season tickets again today. Spent 8.5 months telling myself never again and then I went and did it anyways. I really hate myself sometimes.

So many mouths to feed, on a Lovie Smith team. What's the chance that Evans or ASJ are fantasy relevant year 1? 2? Thanks!

I don't think anyone on the Bucs will be a legit WR1 or TE1. At best VJax, Evans could be high WR2's. Martin likely is a low RB1 or high RB2.

The value is likely going to be in whomever is the 3rd WR (possible flex play). Simms could also have value as a flex. Tim Wright and ASJ are likely going to be like Fleener / Allen from a few years ago. They may shine at times, but neither will be consistent.

The Bucs to have this year in fantasy is the Bucs D. The Tampa 2 should generate plenty of turnovers to make them a top 10 unit.

Offense looked bad but boy the first team D looked amazing.

I think the O will figure it out. Still a month to go.

Great D and a crappy offense. Buc ball is back baby!

White on white looks great.

Apparently the pewter-heavy looks we saw the first 2 games were just tests. Home will be red/white and road will be white/white for the most part. Pewter is being discussed as a 3rd jersey. Creamsickle won't be that option, despite a few rumors I've heard.

I love the white. Wasn't a huge fan of the past 2 combinations.

This defense is gonna be awesome!

Haven't heard a lot of talk about Tedford coming to the NFL. He's known as a grinder...maybe getting him focused on offense only lets him blossom as an OC.
