Indefinite Tampa Bay Bucs thread: Somehow not on the list of teams to never have won a Super Bowl (1 Viewer)

Part of being the best QB is not being a knucklehead.

Sapp? Come on. He got popped for some weed. Big deal. When was the last time a QB with a sketchy off the field record in college was successful in the NFL?
Well if you think be raped the girl, then yes, the bucs should not draft him. Of course he should be in prison as well.

However if you think he didn't, and there have been 3 agencies who have reviewed the evidence and come to that determination.....then what has he really done? Stole crab legs? Some soda? Said ####ssssy in public? BFD.
I think he puts (put) himself in bad situations. Granted, he was 19. Still, the question is valid. Have there been any QB's with a track record like his who have been successful?

I've mentioned before though that I can't imagine what it's like to be in his shoes. Everyone wanting a piece of him. Always wondering if this person is genuine or just wants a payday. Everyone with a cell phone recording his every move. Etc.

I've read he doesn't even leave his apartment anymore because of the attention. Can't go out with his teammates. Will this introversion continue in the NFL? Or is he going to be VIP in Mons, 2001, the Gold Club, on and on...?

All I'm saying is I think Mariota will end up being the guy because the Glazers own the team and Lovie is the head coach.

When considering Winston, you have to assume he is a boyscout for the next 5 months and completely nails his interviews and any combine/pro day. That's the assumption anyone predicting him at #1 is making.

At that point, is his baggage still too big? I doubt it.

Interesting debate over local talking heads in the Tampa market. I for one enjoy T-Kras the most because he go zero to sixty in one throwaway comment/caller to a complete analysis that brings some stunning details of his comings and goings around the Bucs locker room. Duemig always going for shock value, I don't find him objective. Stroud isn't giving any candid insight that Tom Jones isn't coaxing out of him. T-Kras has Winston off his draft board. Maybe he's heard or seen some things that haven't been aired yet? I'd love to have a debate with him over why he hates Jaemis so much. I think he's hands down the #1 QB on the board. Winston will be ROY, while Mariota will have a rookie redshirt season in the pros.

TKras is just too loud. I don't like to be yelled at. I like Stroud's subdued knowledge. Lets you know when he says something (like the issue with Tedford) it has actual weight and merit behind it.

And he's batted around the bush with it, but a week or so ago he said "I'll tell you what....they are not drafting Winston." Makes me believe he was told by Light or another high up that he's not on the board.

I was a little surprised when they said TENN and JAX (again) would coach Senior Bowl

#Bucs declining @seniorbowl tells me more staff changes than OC could be on the way.
I think Gus and Caldwell welcome the advantages this provides.
Historically, it's a huge leg up for a coaching staff to get the chance to work with the Senior Bowl class. Not so much for the blue chips, but the day 3 and UDFAS.

For those hoping for Winston, what are your thoughts on his comments about wanting to play professional football and baseball? Still want him with the #1?

Any Buc fan liking Winston who was around for the Bo Jackson debacle hates that comment.

What are the real chances of him making the bigs? 5%? He's not Bo.

It's said that if football wasn't an option for him and he was focused on baseball only he'd be a 1st round pick in MLB.

I like Greg Roman but he has been rumored to be a candidate for a HC job for a few years now. He may of even had some HC interviews. My worry is you get a guy like him, and he leaves for a HC job after a year. Then you have a 2nd year QB learning a new system.

There are only so many options. Retread burnouts, college coaches/coordinators with little or no NFL experience, or the hot ticket guys who may leave if their offense is successful.

Mornhinweg or Koetter? I mean, come on. If they're going to hire one of these guys you might as well trade the pick to the Eagles. I read that Chip Kelly is in charge of player personnel now anyway.

Obviously Roman has worked with Kaepernick, so he'd at least be able to tailor an offense to Mariota. It would be pointless to draft MM if they don't hire a coordinator who can properly utilize his strengths. If/when he left for another job hopefully MM would be comfortable enough to continue running the same type of scheme with a different coordinator with similar philosophies on offense.

I think I am starting to warm up to Mariotta more because I am thinking of him more as a point guard than a QB. He just quickly distributes the ball to the right person and lets his guys make plays. That is a skill as well.

That would scare me a bit quite honestly.

I have to make peace with this awful decision somehow.
lol. I hear you. He may be good but I have seen enough of him to tell yet.

I'm keeping an open mind as well. There are definitely things I like about Mariota, some even better than Jameis. I like his quick release, but that is about it. His speed is great, and he looked like he knew when to slide.

Any options for QB other than through the draft? If neither guy is the right guy then they should draft BPA, including trading down.

Now that Chip has full control, expect a call any day. Three firsts sound about right?
He'd have to be pretty crazy, and considering TB hasn't had a "franchise" QB in their existence, it would take a ton. As a fan I'd take Foles (assuming he signs an extension), #20, a second, a fourth, and their 2016 first. I imagine they've already had talks.

I want Mariota, but I have very little confidence in Lovie or whoever they decide to hire as an OC being able to develop him, so I'm not opposed to getting a QB who's proven he can play in the NFL and surrounding him with high picks at other positions.

Tough to pass on Mariota. But a boat load of picks, and maybe a good qb dangled in front of them could pursuade them.

No one else, as of now, is really worth a first overall.

The Rams got more than this for RG3. I would puke if that was a trade they made. Two low firsts, two non-impact picks and a mediocre QB?? Come on.

With what the NFL knows about Foles at this point he'd be a first round pick, and I'm sure several teams would value him ahead of Winston and Mariota assuming he signed an extension. Hypothetically, the Bucs would add a QB ready to start right away, and then could add impact players with the #20, #33, and #53 picks in 2015. Then two more firsts in 2016.

I don't think the RGIII trade is a good barometer for future trades. That was insanity.

I'm just speculating because it's entertaining. Best case scenario is Mariota grades out as an absolute stud and the Bucs manage to hire an OC who will design the offense around him.

He's not Bo, he's playing the more mentally demanding position and is not the 80s. Zero chance he plays both. But it's possible he tries and fails like drew Henson.

Obviously we're not him, but put in his shoes I'd go baseball and not declare for the NFL draft.

I dunno. It just seems like we have this premium opportunity to add a franchise guy for the first time ever and people want to trade it away for some 50/50 lotto tickets. The 20th pick does nothing for me. We've had the 20th pick like a dozen times and it results in Adrian Clayborne. Philly's first next year does nothing for me. Probably would be pick 18. A second and fourth rounder are useless. Nick Foles is ok, I guess, but he isn't winning you anything big.

How much is Aaron Rodgers worth? Andrew Luck? 50 first rounders? Not saying Mariotta is going to be them.....but what if he is? You can't trade that.

What if they don't see either QB as a "franchise" guy?

If he's 100% the guy then don't entertain trade offers. If they're on the fence and the Eagles are willing to mortgage their future? Tempting.

Just trade Lovie for Chip Kelly. Problem solved.

If I'm the Bucs I ask Jameis to take a polygraph. If he accepts and passes with flying colors he's the guy. If he declines or fails the decision is simple.
