INSANITY (12 Viewers)

Almost finished the recovery week. My question about the 2nd set of DVDs is that if the people working out with Sean T can't finish the 40 minute videos, do they all become super fit for the next set? I can't finish the 1 set of DVDs, so what's the point of tacking on 15 minutes? Is it just so you continue to start/stop for longer?
Just do the best you can and take breaks when you need to.
I guess the point is that you push yourself by resting then getting back in more often since the workout is longer. Is Sean T able to finish or does he do a lot of walking around? How about the rest of group?
He's definitely sucking wind at times. And that's in addition to the walking around that he does.
Another question, did you feel a lot better during the workout after your recovery week? Even if so I'm guessing that doesn't last real long...

I guess so. Hard to say. It was a bit of an adjustment doing all new exercises after 5 weeks of doing the same ones. But I wasn't really feeling bad during the workouts anyway. Just exhausted.

Day 38: Max Cardio Conditioning

Ugh, did it, but man that one sucked. Feeling good now that it's over though.

Almost through Week 4.

Sunday morning I weighed in down a bit, at 163. lowest since I started. (-4)

Today, i weighed in at 170.

I don't think I am dehydrated, so I doubt it is water retention.

weight loss wasn't the real goal, but kinda f'd up.

Better than the first two. Max Recovery was a welcome break this morning. Still comes in at 47 minutes and is challenging at times but not nearly as bad as the others.

I think those fluctuations are normal. I've seen similar movement throughout the program. Even for awhile, down 3, down 5, down 2, down 5, down 10, down 8.

ya, but I'm up. Before the program, I was all over the place. Would fluctuate +/- 5 lbs all the time (always weighing myself same time each day). When I started, I locked in at around my starting weight. It didn't budge one way or the other. We shall see if it reverts back to the norm. Don't really care, just curious what brought it on.

I copied/pasted from the P90X thread. I've been casually following this Insanity thread and have a question...

My brother in law and I are swapping disks. He's taking my P90X and I'll try his Insanity. I'm worried though that the strength/muscle gains of P90X will be lost when doing Insanity. I understand that Insanity is a tough workout, etc, but how do you even excercise muscles in your bicep without weights? How do you really workout back or shoulders without pullup bars or weights? I'd rather keep the muscle (both size and strength)...will Insanity not do that for me?

thoughts on this?

I think you probably run the risk of burning some muscle if you don't eat properly but doubt you'll really have much of a problem.Insanity isn't really intended to be a muscle builder but you'll probably do enough to keep the gains you've made in your upper body. There's a pretty fair amount of work done in the plank/pushup position in a lot of the videos - even the recovery vids.

Shoot me a PM with your e-mail. Have a calendar that is a P90X/Insanity mix with P90 somedays, Insanity the others. Doesn't help if swapping disks I guess though.

Day 1 of the 2nd set of DVDs, max something or other. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be sore tomorrow but at least I held up better than Aquial. Thought it was kinda funny when a couple of times it was only Sean T doing the exercises. Insanity is a great name for the workout...

yeah, that'd be the way to do it, but I'll just be swapping disks for a while.I have another buddy who, after finishing both programs individually has since done some sort of combination of the two. Doing the P90X on the lifting days (days 1, 3, and 5), then doing Insanity on days (2, 4, and 6).

I shot cb a PM and got the calendar. What your buddy is doing is pretty much spot on to what the calendar had. The one thing I noticed was the use of Cardio Abs instead of Ab Ripper. I thought I read that Ab Ripper was harder?

I just finished week 7 of Insanity. After week 1, I added a pullup routine because Insanity really does not work these muscles. During the recovery week, I ditched the pullups and added the upperbody workouts from P90x. I do the insanity in the AM by the calendar and use one of the 4 upperbody P90X routines in the afternoon, every other day. This has worked for me, but I have all the time in the world with nothing else to do but work and work out. With limited time and lack of P90X DVDs, I recommend simply adding a pullup workout to insanity. There are enough pushups in insanity but very little for the back muscles.

For those who finish Insanity, what's the next step? Let's say you're at your target weight and just want to maintain? I'm thinking of starting Insanity over, but doing it every other day instead of 6 days/wk. I'll also probably skip the recovery week. I also plan to mix in a decent amount of tennis, some biking and basketball on top. What's everyone else's plan?

I'm 40 days in (of 63 total days), and have been starting to think of this more, but not exactly sure yet. Before this program I basically did 30-45 mins. of elliptical 5-6 days a week + 2 sets of pushups to exhaustion every other day. As of now, I'm thinking do that same routine 3 days a week and then maybe throw in random month 2 INSANITY videos the other 3 days (and continue taking 1 day off per week)

Anyone else get the upper body workout disc? It's all dumbbells with the 1st month warm up. I think this would help with the guys from P90X.I haven't posted but I am right behind offdee in the program. Because of work, I had to miss a couple of the recover week workouts and it pushed me a day back. The max videos, 3 days in for me, are extremely hard. To me, it's like starting over again.

I think that's kind of the point. Really step it up a notch so it's a shock to your body's system and provide that next level of results for the 2nd half.

Today is my last day of Recovery Week. You make Month 2 sound like so much fun.

Took Day off, woke up with pounding headache. Can't wait until allergy season (May) is over for me.

Feel really guilty. Was hitting my very last round of Cardio Abs/Pure Cardio. Maybe tonight.

Reality is the workouts are not fun. But, it's 60mins of work, and then the resulting feeling for the following 24 hours after is all worth it.

What are you guys doing if you have to miss a few days? I'm on week 3 but will be going out of town for a few days towards the end of next week. Was thinking I would just do cardio & lift at the hotel gym and then pick back up where I left off when I get back into town.

I just took 10 days off for vacation. I was finished month 1. I am doing the last two weeks of month 1 and then going straight to month 2 without the recovery week. After only 10 days off, I notice a huge difference in my cardio levels. I am sore again and am having trouble getting through the warmups which were easy for me.

For the start of the second four week cycle, I picked up a heart rate monitor. For the first two workouts my max heart rate is 178 and my average for the duration of the workout is 161. At 220 lbs I burned 1,100 calories according to the monitor. Anybody else rockin' one?

I'm guessing the bodyfat just melts away the second month.

What are people's experiences first month, compared to second month on the bodyfat front?

I understand the premise of wearing a heart rate monitor, but just look so damn uncomfortable wrapped around your body. Guess my though is I'm not dead yet so my heart is probably fine.Crazy that these workouts can burn up to 1k calories though. When I did my 30-45mins of elliptical daily prior to INSANITY the machine said I would only be burning 300-350 calories. So, basically in roughly the same amount of time I'm working 3 times harder doing INSANITY.

Don't know. Need to meausre it again this weekend. I feel like it's improved a fair amount but the scale says otherwise. Was down 10 pounts at one point but after the first week of the Max workouts I'm only down 2 or so now.Starting to piss me off.

I used to wear one, just to make sure I knew where my heart rate was, and it really wasn't all that uncomfortable. It didn't take me long to be able to estimate where my heart rate was based on my exertion, so I stopped wearing it, solely because I had a free one my wife had received and it didn't calculate calories burned, so it wasn't worth strapping on anymore.

After max cardio almost same exact stats. 1,111 calories burned.

Day 43 of 63 complete!

No better feeling than removing your sweat soaked shirt after powering off the Blu-Ray.

20 more days to go for complete INSANITY.

did the 4th fit test today, supposed to be on monday but I did it with core cardio and balance.

My 3rd fit test results were extremely tough for me to beat. I worked as hard as ever on that day and for the most part my numbers were almost equal, with 1 exercise a lot better (power knees) and one slightly worse (push up jacks).

The difference was that I really wasn`t super gassed at the end. I mean I knew I was working but it felt a lot easier.

I`ll also say that Insanity has really helped my cardio with running. 2 more weeks to go!

I'll second that max recovery is much more difficult than the recovery disk from the 1st four weeks. Workout duration 47 minutes, avg heart rate 141, max heart rate 158, calories burned 793.

I started Week 5 yesterday. Wow.

We work out in the evening, but we did the Fit Test in the afternoon and main workout in the evening. Dramatic improvement in the test. Except I have to stop watching the tv because I start going at their pace, which, at this point, is slower than what I can do (except globe jumps -- I still curse doing those). I've lost 8 pounds (165 - 157) and 2" off the waist. My wife is 9 months post-delivery and is looking awesome! That's the good news.

The bad news is those are a tough 60 minutes! I'm hoping my muscles were too exhausted from the Fit Test. By the end, I was moving so slowly, but not from being out of breath but because my muscles wouldn't work that fast any more! (I'd also like to chalk it up to being out of town for a wedding over the weekend, but I don't think so.)

My energy level is way, way up at this point. I need less sleep. My mental state is much better. However, I'm eating like a horse and am still hungry!

For someone like me who doesn't enjoy going to a gym, gets bored running, and has limited time with a wife and two little ones, this has been a Godsend!

Oh yeah, Anna rocks! And for all his muscles, Akil's a wuss.

Second run through max plyo, 59 minutes, avg heart rate 158, max heart rate 177, calories burned 1,348.

For the last two circuits I only last about 20 seconds out of the 45, rest for about 15, then jump back in for the last 10 seconds and then start the next exercise. I didn't think it was possible to sweat this much. Looking forward to the rest day tomorrow.

1st fitness test last night - we'll see if I can keep lifting weights at lunch like I always do while doing this at night. My cardio sucks big time so this should be really good for me. Little worried about my knee holding up, definitely wearing a brace....

presently 45 days (out of 63 total) into this and have to admit I'm starting to hit a wall of unmotivation.

Haven't missed a single day and only down about 1lb from when I started. I really don't need or want to lose a lot of weight (6-1, 189lbs) but would maybe like to be around 185lbs when it's all said and done with more tone. I'm feeling more tone but nothing earth shattering and getting discouraged that my weight basically won't go anywhere.

Just not getting it as before I started INSANITY I would work out 5 days a week and just do 30-45mins of elliptical at a reasonable speed and 2 sets of pushups to exhaustion every other day. Ate somewhat decent but more soda and more snacks (chocolate, etc.) here and there than I do now. And for the past 4 years of doing this religiously I basically maintained at 190lbs. Now I'm 45 days into INSANITY, working my ### off 6 days a week, sweating like crazy and watching what I eat more and I'm down one pound! WTF?

I'll still complete it because the end is close, but just a little discouraged and starting to become more of dread to do them rather than somewhat looking forward to the workouts the first month more or less in anticipation of the body overhaul.

I'm willing to bet that your lower body feels a lot more explosive than before and you may have added some muscle to the glutes, quads, hams, and calves which is why you aren't noticing a big drop in weight. endurance cardio, like ellipticals, running, or anything where you perform the same action constantly over 20+ minutes actually has a detrimental effect on explosive muscle growth. endurance work enhances the slow twitch muscle fibers (the type that distance athletes need) but does nothing for fast twitch, explosive muscle, which is generally more massive and dense. if you've been doing that much endurance work over the years, and now you're doing explosive fast twitch work, which Insanity definitely is, then it wouldn't be surprising that you're adding as much muscle to your lower body as you're burning off in fat. it would have been cool to measure your vertical jump, long jump, 40 time, and shuttle time before Insanity and now. I bet you would see major increases in explosive muscle.and if I'm wrong and you haven't added any muscle to your legs...then what do I know? :goodposting:

Have you monitored your BF% throughout this? There's more to it than just your weight.

What Maik and Ned said. Muscle weighs more then fat. The fit tests are in place to gauge your gains. I learned a long time ago, that I only weigh myself to make sure that I'm not losing weight too fast when I'm cutting. But the actual numbers is irrelevant to me if the gains are there.

My weight has fluctuated throughout. As of this AM I'm down 5-6 pounts but it's fluctuated anywhere from 0-10 since starting.

I didn't do my BF% until around week 2 and I'm going to try to remember to check it again tonight. I'm sure there has been a fair improvement there.

On Day 47 and did Max Cardio Conditioning this morning. I'll do Insane Abs tonight. Just didn't have the time to do them back to back.

First time doing Max Interval Sports Training tomorrow morning. :lmao:

is this something you can do yourself? or do you have to go somewhere and have it checked?
