Excerpt from soon to be released FBG sales training manual - Hang out by the FF Mags at your local bookstore, and start dropping "Dude" bombs on unsuspecting prey.

Looking forward to a list of 'Street Team' events so I can attend them all.

I would like a peek at the application.

I might due the bar thing. I'm grabbing girl's rear-ends anyway, I might as well slap a "Blak-eyed Joe" sticker on there! Give me travel and beer money and I'll hit every keister between here and Ranco Cuchcamunga!

Here is a little more info on what we are trying to build here:Essentially our macro goal is to add subscribers. That opens the door to many more things we want to do at Footballguys. Namely, we want to be producing video, become a bigger player in the NFL Draft, create more apps for Facebook, etc. We also have goals to add Mac apps, additional content, etc. And we really don't want to increase the cost of our subscription services as we add these features. The big issue we have always faced is that people don't really want to share their secret weapon. Now some of you have told their friends, league-mates, etc, but many others have not. It's a weird dynamic as most any other business that gives great value for the money gets the bump from friends spreading the word. If we were a restaurant, nobody would hold back from telling people they enjoy what we are doing here. But as a fantasy football site where getting a guy on waivers could be the difference between winning and losing, it's a wonder we have been able to grow to the size we are now essentially just from word of mouth. So with a macro goal of looking to add subscribers, how does FBG accomplish that? What we have found that worked in the past is that if we can expose people to our slate of free offerings: Audible, Message Board, Daily Email, free articles before the cutoff, etc, then we have an excellent chance of converting a high percentage of these people. We spend about 3-4 hours per day crafting the daily email that gets sent out in the preseason. People serious about fantasy football should be on this list in our opinion. We have a solid list of 85,000+ names, but that is still a rather small segment of the supposed 15 million that play fantasy football. Once on that list, it's our responsibility to try and convert this person into a paying subscriber. We know many people will not pay for fantasy football info. And we are fine with that. But we also know many probably would be willing to pay for what we offer IF ONLY they had any idea that a pay site did as much as we do. We will publish over 50,000 pages of internet content this year and that's excluding the message boards and news. Add in all the free Audible episodes and we really are creating a tidal wave of content. The goal of the Street Teams will essentially be to get people to find others interested in fantasy football within their communities. You can do that any number of ways. You guys will only be limited by your creativity here. Each Team member selected will be responsible to collect 100 email addresses of people that play fantasy football. If they do that, they get the 3 year subscription, 2 one-year subscriptions for their friends, the polo shirt, exclusive message board access to our staff and other street teamers, etc as outlined by Sigmund above. We will also track each of these leads and any new subscribers that come from these leads will be given as credit to the street team member. Each new subscription over 10, the street team member will accrue $5 per additioanl new subscriber. So for example, if you had some events in your area and were able to solicit 1,000 email addresses....and 175 new subscriptions came from those leads, you would earn 165 x $5 = $825 for your efforts on top of the normal offerings. The top 12 leads/subscribers (will be a formula that considers both) will also participate in a $1500 fantasy football league.Bottom line is this. We are confident in what we have created here and believe it represents great value in this space. We believe the product is an easy one to get behind and are taking the next logical step to recruit a slew of friends that will help with that effort. Between staffers, bloggers, recappers and friends, we hope to have 200+ Street Team members in 2009 covering a large portion of the United States. Both from the Street Teams and some other not yet announced initiatives, we have a goal of adding at least 50,000 new fantasy football players to our always growing daily email list. This won't be easy, but with 15 million people playing fantasy football, we feel it's our time to try our best to reach out and educate people to what we are doing at Footballguys.
Thanks for more details David. I am very, very interested in becoming a Street Team member. As I've gotten out to the bars more this year, I've run across many, many FF'ers that know absolutely nothing about FBG. I would feel very privaledged to help build the FBG subscriber base. Looking forward to the app and any new info.

Street Team Application

More Heads Up:

FBG will be releasing a very cool preseason CD that we will giving our Street Teamers to help spread the word about FBGs. I think with the CD in hand, it will be very easy for Streeet Teamers to trade this CD for email addresses at sports bars, events, etc

Our goal is to distribute at least 100,000 CDs in 2009 to people that play fantasy football.

Thanks ruffrody. I've had that same experience and it kills me. Guys that I know are really into FF and I tell them about FBG and they are :coffee: We want to put a big dent in reducing the number of those people. If they don't subscribe because they've checked us out and don't feel we offer what they need, that's fine. I can handle that. But it kills me that there are so many people that don't subscribe because they don't know we exist. That's what we're trying to address. Thanks for the help.J

I live in Michigan so all Pro Football is Fantasy

Before Viral Marketing was invented, Amway sold it.

I am in. I can get a 100 in a few months.

Peace

I'm very interested but struggling with how this works and coming up with legit ideas to get you ultimately more members. Can others share any ideas they are doing?

I may be interested in this. A quick question... since it seems the measurement of how you're doing as a Street Team Member is soley by email addresses you collect (and subsequently how many become subscribers and paying members), I think it could limit potential "advertising" avenues. For example, if I get on a radio program and promote the site, why would the new person come to me and give me their email address? They'd just go directly to FBG to sign up, right?

That could be managed by having some kind of reference code in the subscription registration -- like a "How did you hear about/find FBG?" A required field where someone could enter your Street Team # or something. Certainly there's a way, maybe even with incentives to register via a Street Team Member (discount?).

This is definitely what we are picturing to track street team results.

Is it too late to join?

Where do I sign up?!?!?

Man, how did I miss this before now??

As was posted above, I call into my local sports radio show.... if I promo FBG, how would I get credit for it?

I heard from Sig that I'm in and I'm also very excited. I am in the Cleveland area....anybody else wanna take a roll call?

Access to an Exclusive Forum where you get a Direct Line to Staffers for Advice and FF Discussion
This caught my attention.I've heard people suggest many times over the years in the Shark Pool for a "subscribers only" forum where ranking and such could be discussed. The argument against, championed by many including the owners and staffers of FBGs, is that it would be a bad idea for it would water down the good discussion in the Shark Pool.

Assuming some of the more dedicated and knowledgeable posters join this "Street Team", won't this new "Exclusive Forum" water down the knowledge in the Shark Pool and doesn't it go against the previous rational for not having a "subscriber's only" forum?

I'm not #####ing here, I'm just asking...

Edit to add: I don't mean to rain on the parade of what seems like an interesting idea and I hope it didn't come off that way.
We don't see the new forum as the new "home" forum of the street team as much it would be a place that street teamers could ask lineup/strategy/trades/clarification of articles, projections questions and get prompt answers, and a place to talk about and coordinate street team efforts and discuss new directions for FBG, whats working, whats not, and so on. I will definitely spend just as much time as I do now in Shark Pool, I'll just be checking to see if theres any outstanding requests or business to attend in the street team forum every time I step. Think of it as a street team clubhouse that staffers drop by occasionally.
What Sigmund said. Maintaining what we have in the Shark Pool has been a "written in stone" type objective for me over the years. It's why I've resisted things like fracturing the board into multiple sub forums and going to a subscriber only forum. The street team forum will definitely be a place where the staff is involved and engaged. But the idea is for that to be in addition to what they're doing in the Shark Pool. Not in place of. And no problem on the question, that didn't come off in a negative way. J

Definitely not too late. It's just getting started. Check out the first post in the thread for a link to a Street Team Application and more info. For the guys that are already signed up - thanks a ton. This is going to be a blast. I spent this past weekend with Sigmund, Marc and David and some of the other FBG staff guys and the dominant focus of the weekend was spent talking about how to make the Street Team great. We're going to have fun.J

Joe/All,

I already have offered to be Bloom's "research monkey" and web/tech support for the Street Team if you guys need it! Skunkworks is my middle name...lol. :) With that in mind, have you guys ever played around with Google Insights? For example, searching on regional information related to Google Search queries on the term "fantasy football" in the United States yields some very interesting results! Not much traffic/interest before July, Gi-NORMOUS spikes in search traffic in August and September, then a sharp decline from October until around June. Sound like something that should correlate to event dates/locations, SEO, ad placement and ad rates?

Also (sarcasm), if Minnesota being #1 in traffic related to searches on the term fantasy football in the U.S. isn't crystal-clear evidence for the need to bring back the :horns: emoticon, I'll be beside myself...lol. Skol Vikings!!! :tumbleweed:

I am a Professor, not a business guy, so I don't know how good I would be at this, but if you will help us figure out how to do some of these things (like organize events), then I am game.

I'm thinking about setting up a table at a local sports bar during the NFL draft and get as many emails as I can. This is where a banner would come in handy, as well as some FBG gear to give away. If several of us did this in our local areas we'd get a ton of emails from people we know like football and likely fantasy football. At this point we would not have the CD-ROM to give away as trade for an email address, but the content sells itself, even without a freebie. The give away gear would be the icing on the cake, but if people like football and they like fantasy football, why wouldn't you want up to the minute information, details, of NFL news when it happens? Win, win IMO.

Does anyone else have an interest in doing something like this? If we got enough interested people and we can make the arrangements, I would think we could get hooked up with a Footballguys banner, tablecloth or the like. Not to mention something to give away.

Thoughts?

I thought the same thing Jeff. I've had preliminary discussions with the manager of the local Buffalo Wild Wings and he seemed receptive to the idea pending me getting him a lot more info.

Jeff...

Same idea here. I run the concessions at 3 highly played public golf courses in Cleveland. I already have a very simple signup sheet set up with Adam' Schefter's quote and such. I could very easily host a show/fantasy day/etc at one of these, but a banner and the promotional stuff will be very important.

Thanks

Mark Nelson

Welcome Prof! I see a lot of this as all the Street Teamers working together as we figure out what works. You should have plenty of help in that area. Thanks for being a part of this.J
