But I think you're missing the point, again. Icon is saying it's a potential sleeping giant. I think he's right.
Might be a dumb question, but what exactly is "Apple TV"??
http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/for...6/11/100060835/
So it's like a TiVo?? All you can do is download shows/movies to it and watch them or do they have their own broadcast network? Sorry for the dumb questions.
Ignore Goggins. He's clueless. Apple TV is a lot of things rolled up in one. It streams your music/movies from your primary PC (and also syncs them to it's own harrd drive for zero-interruption viewing/listening). It's great to have in your living room if you have a lot of movies/music stored in iTunes (as I do). YOu can also access YouTube and do a whole host of other things.
The catch here, isn't what it does NOW. It's neat now. What it WILL do in the near future (IMO):
• DVR (record live video and store it on a massive hard drive)
• MUSIC (hold your entire music library, be able to instantly acess/download any song in existence tru iTunes)
• MOVIES (hold your entire movie library, be able to instantly access/download any movie in iexistence thry iTunes)
• PHOTOS (Store your whole photo archive and have it accessible by anything)
• WEB ENABLED (Browse on the bigscreen)
• SLINGBOX (I wouldn't be surprised to see apple aquire them before long. Web enabled streaming of ALL content)
• HDMI / DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT
• WIFI HUB
Now envision one fiber line coming in... all your content on that box. It is a wifi hub and shares the connection with all devices in your home. You can view all content (photos, music, videos, web) on your main TV. You can view it over WiFi from your iPad/iPod/iPhone/iWhatever from anywhere on your property. You can also use Slingbox Technology to stream/access that content from anywhere in the world using the web. Access all of your music, movies, photos, files remotely from your iPhone/iPad or any computer anywhere in the world. All that's needed is bandwidth. 4G is on the way folks.
CONTROL: As it stands now, you can control iTunes on your main PC upstairs from anywhere in the house with an iPod Touch / iPhone. It's simple. Now imagine that scaled up to where your iPad, iPod Touch is a Remote control on steroids. Control yoru entire media library (or access anything you don't already have via the web) from ANYWHERE. Out on the back patio and want to change songs in the living room stereo that's pumping that music outside? You can ALREADY do that.
It's where it's headed. Those who called AppleTV "dead" 3-4 years ago were shortsighted. Those who are quoting those articles today (knowing what we know now), are fools.
