iPad (3 Viewers)

How do I use the 3G on my iPhone through my iPad (tethering or whatever)? I can't figure it out.TIA
Another question I'm hoping someone can help me with...On Internet Explorer I could create a folder in my favorites, put several sites in there, and open them all in separate tabs with one click. It was a nice little time saver for certain situations. Anyone know an iPad browser that will do this?TIA
anyone?

Try the Atomic Browser.

need case recommendations for ipad2. anyone?
Toblino 2 Highly recommend
Thanks...question - does the front flap get in the way of your hands or arms when you are using it as a stand in typing mode?I am currently leaning toward the AYL, as it does not utilize the same fold for standing.
No. Not at all.I'm not a fan of the one you linked for two reasons. 1) The leather covers too much of the front of the ipad adding bulk. 2)I like to keep the ipad on the arm of the sofa. For this, you need a wide stable base. The Toblino provides a wide stable base in all 3 viewing positions. The AYL would probably fall over in the upright position.

I also have the Targus viewscape which is a great case. However, the Toblino has the magnet built in that wakes/sleeps the ipad which is an advantage.

Just some things to consider.
Wound up with the Ion Carbon Cover. It's the perfect case in every way - except it smells something terrible (vinyly, plasticy). Hoping that goes away over time. ETA - just read that it is a common thing called off-gassing and will go away shortly. yea.

Two ways:1. You can go to Settings/General/Network/Set Up Personal Hotspot - This will allow you to subscribe to AT&Ts service for tethering. You will pay a monthly fee depending on the data usage plan you pick.2. You can jailbreak your iPhone and then install MyWi, which is an application that lets you use the phone as a wifi hotspot. Note that jailbreaking voids the warranty on your phone and use of MyWi to make your phone a wifi hotspot is a violation of your contract with AT&T. Some people report that using MyWi has enabled AT&T to identify them as a hotspot user and to kick them out of AT&Ts unlimited data plan.

Nice, that one has it. Nice browser too. Thanks Foos!

I didn't realize it was that easy if you pay for that monthly charge. Think I will avoid the jailbreak way as long as I have the unlimited data still, wouldn't want to lose that. Thanks for the info!

Been thinking about going back to a non-smartphone and picking up a 3G iPad. Seems like a lot of the stuff I do with my phone might be better suited for the larger screen of the iPad. Can you still just pay for the 3G on a month by month basis? I doubt that I would really need it on a regular basis, but there would be times it would be a nice option to have.

Any downside to this approach? Anyone else abandon their smartphone for an iPad?

It is still month to month on the 3G payment plans. No contracts which is nice. I have an Ipad and a work provided bberry for my phone/email. I picked up the ipad since other then pure email the bberry really isn't great (e.g. no apps, internet is horrible, pdfs and doc review not very helpful). I like the set up since the iPad does all those things and is basically like having a mobile computer other than for document drafting.

Get a mobile hotspot from VZW that runs on their LTE network and a wifi Ipad. Much faster plus you can connect multiple items to the hotspot.

What's this run per month?

My favorite iPad app so far is Flipboard. One of the coolest content-consumption apps I've used on any platform, period.

It aggregates twitter feeds, google reader news feeds, facebook feeds, and a ton of built-in sources and formats it all like a magazine.

:goodposting: I LOVE Flipboard. Completely changes the way you consume content from the web - in a good. Pulse is pretty good too, but I like Flipboard's approach better.

I was considering upgrading to a smartphone, but got the iPad instead and kept my old Motorola flip. I don't use my phone much, so made more sense to go with the larger screen plus not be forced into a monthly data plan. I bought the 3G Verizon model. May never need it, but is nice insurance. IIRC, it was an extra $129.

Anyone in here have DirectTV and iPad?

A couple of questions about the app:

How bad is the lag?

What is the quality of the picture?

Do you/have you used an HDMI cable to mirror directly to a TV when not at home?

Yeah, the only thing I think I would really miss about a smartphone is having GPS always available. I guess Garmins have gotten pretty cheap.

What are the best porn streaming sites that work on the iPad?I use youporn and tube8 but are there any others I should know about?
A lot of the viewing choppiness that you are experiencing might not be due to website streaming issues. Try holding the iPad with TWO hands instead of just one and see if that helps.

Never thought I'd say this, but I am seriously considering an iPad. What should I be looking for? Are there different models?
You can choose between an iPad or iPad 2. iPad 2 has front and back cameras, slightly thinner and lighter. More ram and newer processor than the original. You can decide what is better for you based on price. If you go iPad 2, you have 2 color choices. You can choose your flash memory size, 16, 32, or 64megYou can choose your Internet connection to be wifi or wifi/3G. There are a couple of 3G services. After those small choices you simply customize to your hearts content via the app store where there are a ton of great free apps.Feel free to pm if you have any specific questions.

Any consensus on which model is "better"? I assume the iPad 2 will be more expensive as it's newer.Would I need some sort of 3G plan for the 3G system? Sorry for the clueless questions, but I have no experience with this - when you say "wi-fi", I can use my apartment's wireless network, right? The majority of my use would be in my apartment.

3G plans are month to month. No contract. Available through either AT&T or Verizon. And yes, any wireless signal will work.

Wow this app is fantastic. So smooth. I can see why the ratings are almost perfect. Is there any way to customize the board itself? Like if I want to remove the Oprah panel or the Facebook panel?

iPad 2 is more expensive. You just need to determine if the differences in specs make up for the difference in cost for how you want to use it. For me I was originally going to go with the iPad but finally decided on the ipad2 for a handful of reasons that made the extra cost worth it to me.You would need a 3G plan if you want to use it outside of a wireless environment. I only have a wifi unit because I basically only use in places where wifi (wireless) already exists like my house, restaurants or hotels.

Hold down on a square, an X will appear in the corner to delete it.

Is anyone having any problems with the Reminders software of ios5?

For some reason, all of my to do's I type in disappear a few minutes later when I look at Reminders again.

How do you print from Safari? I can find print menus in a bunch of apps but can't figure out how to get the print option to print a safari page on my iPad 2 running ios5.

Print the web. When you want to print a web page — a recipe, a news article, a flight itinerary — just tap Print and iPad sends the information to your AirPrint-enabled printer, without the help (or hassle) of cords or cables.2

Where is "Print" on Safari on the iPad? There are no menus. Is there an icon some where?

I found it. It was under the icon that allows you to save a link.

You can also use this technique to rearrange your boxes, similar to rearranging apps on your iPad/iPhone.

Any thoughts on which size is the best?

I would really be using the iPad 2 for just basic web browsing; it will be basically an extension of my MacBook...my MacBook is 4 years old and still runs just fine, and I will be keeping it for word processing/spreadsheets, etc.

I have no idea how much space the apps take up, etc. I have really no need to store files on the iPad, I have all of my documents/music/etc. saved on an external HD.

The apps take up very little space. If you don't intend to store music or vids on it, 16G will be more than you ever need.I have 8 gigs worth of music on my 16G and still have a ton of room for more apps than I could ever use.

My wife just got me an ipad 2 wifi version for my birthday yesterday. I can not think of one reason I really want it and am inclined to return it. I have an iphone 4. Is there any reason to keep the ipad other then its cool, or you can read things easier because it has a big screen.

ETA: My MIL got me that arcade thing that gmbacm linked in the post above this. That will need to be returned too

Do you fly? It's great for airplanes, reading magazines like Wired, using it to control your TV (most cable providers have an App) - much much better than the stock cable guide you use for your TV. Plus you can type show names into it easier than the cable remote.

I dont fly. I would like to get something to read things digitally, just not sure something like a nook or kindle wouldnt be better or easier. I have an app for my phone for my cable system.

Do you regularly use your phone to control your TV while you watch it? You should try the iPad app, way easier to surf channels, 1 flick to scroll - phones are not that easy to navigate grids like this, you typically need to zoom in, and then when you zoom in too far, etc...
