iPad (3 Viewers)

Its $99 . You probably drop that amount of singles at gentlemans clubs during your FBG pow wow's in vegas.
I guess. Just seems like a ripoff, although I feel that way about most things apple. Yet here I am.
I believe you ordered the 32 GB ipad yes? So you paid $99 for a mere 16GB extra in storage space. No features at all, just storage space.Apple TV is a bargain compared to that.
well, that's to improve the functionality of a $500 ipad that I plan to use for the next 3+ years.I don't see how the apple tv would really get much use for me. I already have several devices that do basically the same thing. I don't own an apple computer and don't think I ever will. I just have an iphone and will have an ipad. That's about the extent of my apple ownership.
yeah if you're not looking to dive fully into the ecosystem then no sense in getting ATV. Just grab a APlay enabled receiver and call it a day. Hell there are a bunch of older denon receivers that offer free AP upgrades over your network.I'm an Amazon Prime Junkie as well. Here's the http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004U403XQ/ref=asc_df_B004U403XQ1929666?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=cnet-ce-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B004U403XQ my pop got for $550.
Speaking of AirPlay speakers, does any have or have a friend with the Zepplin? I'd love to have that in the living room, but seems a little pricey.

I wasn't trying to start a battle. The only apple thing I own is an iPod nano from the generation right before they added a camera and FM (I think) to it.

At this point I'm seriously considering getting an iPad (not sure which version) and I'm trying to learn the pros/cons. The big problem is that generally speaking, I'm a value guy. My work schedule has me in hotels 4-7 nights per month and I'd want the iPad to allow me to watch stuff on the big screen while in bed. I don't want to necessarily hold the iPad to do so.

Wife and I are also taking a trip in August where we'll spend about 18 hours on a plane, so I'd like to have something for entertainment during that. The iPhoto/iMovie thing intruiges me as well since we have tons of pics and movies of the kids. I have friends that use nothing but Apple and swear by it...I just haven't really figured out the "why" yet.

If I have an iPad, and a Nano, and a windows-based home PC, are those things able to work together seamlessly sharing files and such or is that a pain?
Yes - for the most part. Only downside is you will have to convert/obtain your video in a format playable on the ipad. Not a huge deal with some advance planning.I have had an ipad for 1.5 years now. To be honest I use it less then I used to. It is fantastic for travel, watching media etc as you describe. I used to use it a lot more for web browsing but find myself choosing the laptop more often then not now. Im a multiple browser window/multiple app at the same time guy - and its just too much of a pain with an ipad relative to a computer.
This is how I see it. I'm still buying a new Ipad, because I've never owned one. But I've played around with them and have owned an Iphone for years.Browsing the internet, typing, doing anything work related and playing games are much easier on a laptop than an ipad.

The ipad is incredible for watching movies, reading books, etc. Also good for browing the web if you are just reading, and not writing. I suppose getting a keyboard would obviously change that though.

The games are a joke for the most part.

My bachelor party weekend begins friday march 16, so i expect you guys to have all the bugs worked out and questions answered when I get back and finally fire up this thing.

I'm sure this has already been talked about in here, but any recommendations for a good case?

Just ordered my first iPad last night.

Anyone want to sell their ipad2 32 gig?

oh, and anyone know if I get set up a developers acct with an ipad as opposed to mac?
Any help appreciated. Also, If I have a bunch of music and movies on my main PC, can I stream them to the ipad? just load I tunes on both? Never owned an apple product but might be ready to take the leap.

Had preordered ATT 4G version. Just cancelled and went with Verizon version....why?

Verizon offering mobile hotspot off IPad 3 for free. ATT not even activating the feature!

ATT acts like they have exclusive rights or something.

Okay, somehow we got off on this hdmi tangent, and that's the least import of the ports I mentioned. If I bought a tablet, I would want to be able to connect my DSLR via the microusb port to transfer photos and do basic photo editing. Second, I would want a microsd slot to supplement the on board memory. And you keep mentioning the fancy pants airplay, but what if you want to use your tablet as a presentation device at meetings rather than hauling around a laptop? Easiest way would be to connect to the projector via hdmi and use your iphone as a remote.

Sure, I can buy a couple extra dongles that will give me that functionality, but it's more things I have to carry around and keep track of. Why should I have to do that when it would cost Apple practically nothing to give me a dedicated port and I don't have to carry around yet another cord?

Sorry I guess your request got lost in the noise of all these iPads being sold :lmao:

Cmon Gramps.. connect your camera to your tablet? You going to email the photos via dialup too? Get an eyefi card and download the app. voila... bottomless memory card as it instantly streams all images to your iOS device. No need for all that swapping of cards or carrying extras.
Second, I would want a microsd slot to supplement the on board memory.
There's this little thing called The Cloud, pops. Who needs expandable on board memory? Hell I even run Presence so I can log into my main machine from anywhere to view all my files from anywhere. "But I want to use the card to get files onto my tablet!" you say? To that, I ask WHY?

Congrats.. you finally win one. Yes, for the 0.01% of the people purchasing the iPad to give presentations on the road, they will have to spend a whopping $28 on an adapter. For the other 99.9% of the iPad users out there, there are FAR more elegant solutions than having all those silly cables flopping around all willy nilly. You want this stuff. We get it. Why are you still posting in here. It's obvious the iPad is not the right device for you.

You android boys and your reliance on legacy technology... Embrace the future!

sorry, expandable >>>>cloud, Amazon cloud, google storage.I like to have as much local as possible

For you, perhaps. And for you an iPad isn't the right device then. You guys seem to fail to understand that the vast vast majority of users don't share these same demands. We don't have this attachment to physical media... or we are content with the wireless solutions that take the place of these features. So if you guys are trying to convince me that YOU GUYS want removeable media and legacy ports...sure. I'll buy that. If you guys are trying to convince me that MOST tablet consumers want removable media and legacy ports? No, sorry... not buying that. :shrug:So... what is it exactly that you're selling here?

Nothing , just I dont like online storage (has nothing to do with Apple, my amazon and google I still have local copies).. You limit yourself if you have no connection, and risk someone else "losing" your "data" (a very unlikely occurrence)

Eta: not removable per se just ability to expand

I agree. I am constantly juggling media/apps on my ios devices. Online storage is often not a great solution. Expandable storage would be a fantastic feature.

If the iPad had an SD slot or micro SD slot or even able to load a flash drive, I would buy one with no questions asked. The fact that an iPad does not offer this is a big fail.

Most consumers don't know any better and will simply pay $100 more for an extra 16GB. Apple knows what they're doing.

So can I sync this to multiple computers that have my itunes account on it like an ipod or just one like an iphone? I have a 5yr old laptop at home that I did basically formatted and now only has itunes, music, pics, and docs on it. Should i use that or my 1yr old work desktop?

What are must have ipad apps? Which allows you to remote access pc?

Can you define what the "legacy ports" are that people are asking for?The generally accepted definition of a legacy port is as follows: "A legacy port is a port or connector on a PC that is considered fully or partially obsolete." Are we calling USB 3.0 and HDMI "legacy ports" now?

I haven't heard anyone that wants a serial port or a parallel port or a vga monitor port.

I still don't understand what the iPad does that the iPhone or laptops don't do better.
not really fair to compare to either as its not meant to replace either - but if I had to...what is better then iphone is obvious I think.Better then laptop - portability, weight, quick start, better battery, viewing media (for the most part), fewer software/hardware issues (generally)worse then laptop - productivity, multi tasking, multi browser windows, keyboard, storage, ports, external media, flash

I love when these devices are announced. I still can't figure with is more entertaining....those complaining about features not being provided or those defending Apple at all costs as to why they aren't provided with the "you're using it wrong" and "that's not what it's for" kinds of arguments. Gets me every time.

:goodposting: It's going to come down to personal preference, but the portability and weight is what sets the tablet apart from everything else for me. When the original iPad came out, I was totally against it and didn't see how it'd replace my laptop. Yet here I am laptop free with an iPad2. If you have kids, this thing doubles as a fantastic learning aid that's super easy for them to use. It's amazing watching my 5 and 3 year old boys fly through this thing like they've been using it for 10 years.

I assume this is directed at my previous post? I am far from an apple apologist. I use both apple and windows PCs and prefer windows. I just lay it out as I see it. The ipad isnt comparable to a laptop. A laptop wins every time IMO if that is the choice you are making. But the ipad has a place if you are looking for something to compliment your computer.

If you're doing the things I mentioned then it applies to you. Honestly, I pay little attention to who's saying it....too caught up in the allegiance / hater aspect of it all.

Pretty sure this is directed at my tongue in cheek lashing of the HDMI/Removable media stalwarts above. Your post was very fair and balanced... I took mine a little to the other side of where the naysayers were sitting for kicks.

### ####it. If switching my initial order from white to black backed me up, I am going to be pissed.
I wouldn't sweat it. I think when I got the iphone4, mine shipped later than others but I still got it one day prior to the official release date.
I'm not worried about it. Just annoyed with myself for taking all that time to pre-order early and then change it. My own damn fault. It's "preparing for shipment" now.

White, 32GB wifi only with a tan leather smart cover on the way.
Just a heads up, my SIL bought an open-box smart cover through this vendor online. It was pristine and exactly like her old one (puppy chewed it up).I'm usually a little leary of buying used, but I ended up ordering this tan version yesterday. Might not be a priority for you, but it could save some coin.

Just making sure...the old smart covers will fit the new iPads?
