Is Austin Collie a one week wonder or the real deal? (1 Viewer)

My gut tells me that Collie really isn't going to be much more than a #4 option this season, but there is always the chance he steps up and is a semi impact player for the Colts in such a high powered offense.

How do the Indy homers see Collie this year?

P.S. I made a Major deal where I dealt a couple of big name wr's and the guy I traded with threw Collie in the deal "to make it even" I'm pretty happy to say that Collie scored more than those guys combined yesterday.

I think he will put up solid, but inconsistent numbers. I wouldn't be shocked if week 1 ends up being his biggest game of the entire season. Too many weapons in Indy for Collie to be an "impact player"

Funny, I think that is the biggest reason to expect him to be an impact player.

I really liked him last year too... but I honestly don't think that anyone outside of Wayne and Clark are going to put up consistent numbers.

Great offense, but at best he is the 4th option behind Wayne, Clark, and Garcon.

I'm not an Indy homer, but as someone that is Manning dynasty owner (and was a Gonzo dynasty owner) - I follow the Indy offense pretty closely.I will say this much - Garcon is not earning Manning's trust the way Collie is. Manning has had a tendancy to throw to guys he trusts, not just guys that are open. Collie and Garcon were actually target the same number of times. If Garcon continues to drop passes and not be able to bring them down in traffic, than Collie will start to get even more looks (at least in relation to Garcon). Keep in mind that Wayne, Clark, Collie, and Addai all had more catches than Garcon. Now, Manning will not throw 57 times a game for the season, so all of the passing numbers will probably be a tad lower. If Garcon continues to struggle, Collie will continue to flourish - especially with Gonzo getting hurt yet again. It would not shock me if Collie anded the year with more recptions and more yardage than Garcon. I tend to think Collie will "look" like the #3 option (behind Wayne and Clark) - in terms of production (not necessarily in terms of targets) - simply due to Garcon's catch % issues.

For my teams sake I hope you are correct.

I'm no Indy homer, but for my draft preparation, I put together the median results for all wide recievers last year and was surprised to find that Garcon, Wayne & Collie were ranked numbers 19, 20 & 21, respectively.

Garcon's median performance was 8.6 pts (8.6 avg)

Waynes median performance was 8.4 pts (10.0 avg)

Collie's median performance was 8.4 pts (8.6 avg)

Throw in Dallas Clark (9.3 median/10.9 avg) and you have the Indianapolis Colts receiving offense. Manning throws it to the open reciever. The featured guy will change from game to game based on who's open. Its worked pretty well to this point. I think over the course of the season he will accumulate some solid stats, but he will not be featured in any way, shape or form. He had several real stinkers last year. Its going to be very difficult to figure out when its going to be his "turn". I'm not sure how Gonzalez factors into the equation, but my gut would tell me that his share would come from Collie/Garcon.

I avoided Collie because I feel like he and Garcon will alternate who has the big game of the 2. And I'd always chose wrong, so it wouldn't be worth it.

I saw a guy post this on another Message Board and thought it was a very astute posting regarding breakout players:

"WR A.Collie - Looking at the numbers Collie put up in his last 16 games (including playoffs), he scored 215.3 pts. That's got to be good for around 20th wr overall. With Wayne disgruntled, Garcon seemingly nicked up a bit, and D.Clark coming off a career year (and possibly nicked up), it wouldn't take much to see Wes Welker type catch numbers from Collie."

I didn't realize his total numbers were so good last year. Then he puts up that game yesterday, wow.

He will be up and down, but he is definitely worth rostering, and definitely worth starting if you have a stud on a bye or an injury. Plus, with Bob Sanders now hurt, the Colts defense won't be as good, so the Colts will probably be in more shootouts, meaning they will put up higher passing stats, and Collie will get some of those.

Did you not see Garcon's one handed catch?? It was pretty amazing, but then it was pretty amazing that Garcon dropped the td pass as well.... Garcon has skills, but is inconsistent...
