At this point, I don't know how you can say he's not. And I despise the Patriots. He's a great blocker and he's almost totally unguardable.

Only other guy in the discussion is Graham. Gronk's a great blocker / Graham's not. Therefore, yes Gronk is.
To be fair he's also in a pass friendly offense with an elite QB. I really like Vernon Davis but Alex Smith obviously isnt Brady. Toss up but he's very good. And I agree.. Jimmy Graham is on his way to being elite.

I was all set to argue Finley's case, then I looked at the stats. It's Gronk and Graham all alone up top right now and no one else is close. On a purely anecdotal note, Tony Gonzales is having a heck of a year too, especially considering his age.

Seriously going to consider keeping him over Andre Johnson next season in my Keep 2 league.
Same. Gronk's numbers put him among the top ten among all pass-catchers for fantasy so far this year. Through ten games, 805 yards and 10 touchdowns. Ten more points in my standard league than my WR1, Mike Wallace.

Yep. Plus, I'm sure most people drafted Gronk much later than their WR1. For instance, I drafted Gronk in the 9th, Andre 1st. Pretty easy decision, imo.

I think he is, ive always felt that if Vernon Davis played for a team that wasnt the Niners or if Finley played for a team that threw the ball to less than 12 receivers they would be in the running (and honestly I think Davis is #2 right now even with the great season Graham is having) but Gronkowski is just everything you want in a tight end, almost have to chop him low to take him down, he can block the best of them, you cant go over him to take the ball away, hes surprisingly fast for his size (4.65 40, 6'6" 265), is actually quicker off the line than Hernandez and has better hands then most TEs in the league.

Man crush.

Put Vernon Davis in that offense and it's all over. Look at Davis' production/target vs his 49er teammates over the last 3 years. It's off the charts. He is a force that has been hidden by his team and QB.

Davis>Gronko.

Uh, easily? He has 6 more catches and 68 more yards. If their "paces" hold up, Graham will only have 9 more catches & 109 more yards than Gronkowski.
Yeah, that's like a whole game difference. You don't think that's significant?Doesn't mean I think Graham is the better player, I'm just saying if things keep pace Gronk's season can't be necessarily be called the "best ever."

Sure it's significant, but not nearly as significant as the 6 TD differential (based on their current "pace"); that's over 1/2 a season difference, not just a game. I personally feel those 2 are 1a and 1b, FF speaking, but that Gronkowski is the better NFL TE, based on his blocking ability.

Jimmy Graham is the best, but it's very close.
How so?Graham has a slight edge in receptions & yardage, but he is far inferior with regards to red-zone (TDs) success. Furthermore, Gronkowski is a much better blocker than Graham. It seems to me that Gronkowski is better, NFL speaking.

And Graham isn't?

He's a more agile Jason Witten and he's in one of the best opassing offenses in the league. I can see the argument for graham, but I like gronkowski.

Add to this that Brady throws to his TE's more than his WR's. Who do the Pats have for a vertical threat? Ocho? Branch? Some of his success is benefiting from his situation, for sure. Not to take too much from Gronk, but I think you could plug in a handful of TE's in his spot and it'd be the same thing.

But, the dude is impressive. He's making great catches and RAC's. And from what i've heard he's a good blocker. Honestly, I havent paid attention to his blocking. I think the more impressive thing is how the Pats can use their personnel to fit their scheme. They have two TE's that are athletic, matchup problems, and they exploit it.

Gronk is the best "offensive weapon" at the TE position right now. Best TE overall, I'm not sure. A guy named Witten might have something to say about that. Watch Witten for a whole game and you'll know what I mean.

It's clear all but 1-2 of you know who Vernon Davis is.

Gronk, fantasy wise, is the beast of beasts.

Davis, realistically, eats people like Graham and Gronk as protein bars.

Very good but also a product of the system. Guys like Graham and Finley are just as good of TEs. If either were on that offense they would be just as productive I believe.

Disclosure: haven't seen Gronk play that much, but I know enough to know that he is definitely benefiting from his situation.

You really need to watch him; the only "system" part about him is how he systematically destroys everyone who covers him and outjumps/runs through defenders/runs fast for TDs. Graham and Finley aren't even close to being as good of blockers and Gronk is just as good an athlete as those two (he's 6'6" 265 pounds and has the body of an Olympian).Believe me, if he was on the Packers or Saints he would be putting up similar or even better numbers as the Patriots also have the excellent Hernandez, Welker, and multitude of pass catching backs to feed.

Don't know if he is the best but I have both him and Graham starting so it doesn't matter :P . The past two games Welker has not been as big a part of the offense as Gronk so I don't know what was going on there. Maybe Gronk needs to face more teams that focus on Welker or have elite CBs. When Welker is the primary target, I doubt Gronk will continue to get 2 TD and ~100 yards obviously. I don't know, it's pretty close. I think Gronk had bigger games this year so I'll say yes.

But was the question an NFL all around TE question or a fantasy question? If a fantasy question I like Graham better, but they are close.

Jimmy Graham, Jason Witten, and the Gronkis the top tier of TEs in the league. Graham is basically a all catch guy, his numbers are great. Witten is a solid catcher and runs hard after the catch. His blocking is ok. Gronkowski is a great blocker and is a huge Redzone target and causes so many matchup problems. Did you guys see the blocks Gronkowski put on Hali?? He dominated him and set the edge for 1st downs and big runs for BGE. Gronkowski is the best TE in the league and will get better as he goes along.
