Is Jamal Lewis finally done as a starting RB? (1 Viewer)

week-after-week, he comes up small, but the Ravens continue to use him as their RB1. Is it time to cut him, or is he worth keeping since he at least has opportunities? Would you drop him for RB2s and RB3s with the chance of contributing, such as LenDale White, Chris Perry, or Najeh Davenport (RBs likely to still be available in most leagues -- even big ones)? I hate that Jamal just takes up roster space! What is Billick thinking, sending him out there every week?

Yes, drop Jamal as soon as you can to pick up and play guys like Perry and Davenport. Then after you have done this report back to us to tell us if you won your game or not. Thanks.

If the Ravens want to have any chance at the post-season they need to start giving the ball to Smith and Anderson. Lewis looks awful and they can't afford to have him struggle through any more of these games. They have a tough schedule ahead of them.

There is another thread about this somewhere. You might want to bring that back up.

Well, PK -- if anyone is actually starting Lewis, they're either stupid or have been very unlucky. He's the #4 RB on my roster, and I can't imagine him being better than a #3 on most rosters. As I said in my post, I hate having a wasted roster spot, as he simply hasn't played one game this year at a level that would get anyone to start him the next game!

So, would you just keep him on your bench hoping against hope that he might eventually do something -- and that Billick keeps trotting him out there? Or would you drop him for someone who might have more upside?

I thought he looked pretty good today, all things considered.

He was playing against a very good D-line, his starting QB was out, and the Ravens were trailing most of the afternoon. Still, he averaged 4.5 YPC. He has looked awful this year, don't get me wrong. But today is the wrong day to put the blame on his shoulders. His number was called only 9 times.

Musa got one carry and he fumbled. Anderson carried 6 times for 7 yards. The O-line isn't good.

I agree with RAIDERNATION. Sure he hasn't looked great this year, but he has gone against some tough defenses. Today he got all of 9 carries. Count me in the minority, but I am buying low on him.

Exactly Raidernation! Those who think Musa or Mike are going to step in and start producing like a top 15 back are kidding themselves. I don't think either of the two backups gained any ground on Jamal today.

Anderson 6 carries for 7 yards and Musa 1 carry for 5 yards. Why do so many people think that these two guys are saviors for the Ravens this year?

The Baltimore Sun reports Ravens RB Jamal Lewis and WR Derrick Mason criticized the offense after the 23-21 loss to the Panthers. Lewis ran for 41 yards on a season-low nine carries. "We were getting positive yardage up front, and I think we just pumped the brakes on that and didn't just smash on it. It was very disappointing," Lewis said. "I had a 17-yard run and got taken out. I guess I wasn't hot enough. Everyone wants to know where the old Jamal Lewis went and where he's at. You get a 17-yard run and then they take you out." Added Mason: "We didn't do [anything] on offense until we had to muster up some points at the end."

Good points. People assume that a new guy getting the load means he'll produce. On a side point, why exactly are people high on Smith in dynasty? I don't see him starting in 2007, and I also don't even think he's that good. Sure they might cut MA/Lewis, I still don't see Musa starting. He just doesn't look that good from what I've seen.

ool...The Ravens manged two TDs on balls deflected up in the air by Panther defenders. You will never ever see two luckier TDs in the same game.

Ever since his monster season in 2003 his numbers have declined every year and will continue to do so.

He has big time mileage on him and is a very old 27. Lewis could be be a decent bye week option as your RB3 but overall, I say he's way done.

i am actually a jamal believer. i think he will come around--he is still relatively young and last year he was still recovering from injury. the fact is that his OLine isn't what it once was. but i believe he can be a horse if given the chance. i'll go out on a limb and say that he has two more really good years before he hangs up the cleats.

disclaimer: i own jamal in one league where he has been riding the pine a lot lately but i don't need him to produce so i don't miss him.

the two guys who havnt done squat this year are whinning, imagine that...

9 carries is ######ed when your primary back is averaging over 4 ypc and the other guys aren't doing squat. If Lewis got the 25 carries he wants he would have had a very good game, at least over 100 yards.

I'd like to see just one freakin' game where he got 22-25 carries so I could tell for sure on the guy. He definitely isn't running like he did a couple of years ago, but damn, what can you do with a #### line and 9 whole carries? Especially surprising to see the lack of carries when Boller had to come in, if I was Billick, that would've made my nuts shrivel up and I would've been feeding the backs all day--

3rd round pick for me over Djax and Reggie Wayne :bag:

RB Jamal Lewis’ struggles have led to speculation about how long he’ll keep the starting job in Baltimore. Head coach Brian Billick is loyal to veterans, but if Lewis doesn’t pick up his play, we’re told the Ravens could revisit the RB situation. The way we hear it, veteran Mike Anderson would likely get first crack at Lewis’ job, as the team likes what Musa Smith has done on passing downs. Anderson’s play has steadily improved after a so-so training camp

Is this you talking or a failure to quote something?

If Ron Dayne can continue to earn starting gigs . . .

In fantasy circles? Yeah, he's done starting for fantasy teams.
