Is the ACF thread a red-headed stepchild? (1 Viewer)

As a regular poster in the ACF under the Coach's Corner, I think it should be people's personal choice to go there or not go there. Ranvnzfan, Keys Mathys and myself handle many questions every week. I go over there because I want to help people out who my just be learning the game or who want a second opinion. If used correctly, this can be used as a great tool. The problem is that most people who post in the Shark Pool think they are too good to go to the ACF and help others out. That is just plain wrong. Somewhere along the way, you too needed help to get where you are today. I fell it is my duty to be the sounding board for those who are in need of this.

I know that I am in the minority here, but Joe Bryant shouldn't have to bribe you with gifts or rep points to get you to help others out. He opens these boards to all of us for FREE. Don't you think we should give something back instead of always asking what's in it for you? You should jump at the opportunity to help out anyway you can to justify you membership on this board.

I have never in the history of ever agreed with you, but agree with you completely right now.

WOW...some very good and strong points.

I prefer to make my own decisions regarding trades/ WDIS. That being said, I don't want to hear about other peoples teams - I could care less, frankly.

That's the beauty of the ACF - gives people a forum to talk about their specific team without cluttering up the SP.
:wall: COULDN'T :wall: CARE :wall: LESS :wall:
no. I could care less. That's what I mean, and I'll stick by that, thank you very much.

First time I came here, I posted a "help me with my team" question in the Shark Pool. I was directed to the ACF--that was cool. And then I noticed that it was a ghost town in there, relative to the Shark Pool. So then I started studying the Shark Pool, and paying attention to relevant information that would still shed light on questions that I had about players on my team. I ended up using that information to make decisions on my own. I didn't have to ask for help with my team anymore. I became a better fantasy football player.

Herbert Spencer would be so proud. . .
This is the best answer in here. If you're wondering about whether you should start Bobby Jack Nohands or Leroy Dropsalot, you're going to get a lot better information reading threads about them in the Shark Pool than posting something in the ACF.
You are correct, but that's the problem. I think we're looking for a solution here more than pointing out that we are better off just contributing to the problem. It's sort of akin to saying visiting to the slums saddens me, so I'm better off avoiding the slums, instead of considering what you can do to make the slums problem better for those who can't avoid it.
I think Pinequick has it. I view the ACF as a necessary evil. Some of you more benevelant souls are helping out and that's cool. But, in the end, people have to learn to make their own decisions and they have to understand that everybody here has the same info that they do, and in the end, they are responsible for their own decisions. If there were no ACF, the SP would become the ACF, so the ACF is useful in that it keeps the pools waters clear.

I do like the chat idea though...that could be very helpful, as I assume most WDIS questions are between 12:00 and 1:00 eastern. That could be a very powerful way to get answers from "experts" in a timely manner. One vote on a CJ vs TO from a staffer should be more valuable than 10 votes from other lost souls. explanaitons for all WDIS questions shouldn't have to be more than a sentance or two long.

Breaking this down-Joe shouldn't, you're right. However this board is not new and neither is this "issue" if you think there even is one. If MemberX spends a few hours answerring Qs and those answerred people stay and learn to love his site, isn't that worth something? Joe offers us a great avenue to discuss FF isn't that worth something? You can easily see both sides and lean toward Joe's IMO. But why are there always 5-6 guys chiming in over there? I used to, but got little out of it. Little in the way of thank yous or such. Very weird, when I have my site going I get 8 zillion Qs and never have enough time but they're always followed with thanks and "I won my league due to that trade" and other back N forth notes. I looked and the guys ask the same Q to each and everyone chipping in there. That minimizes it. Why should he thank Keys when Bristol and Wannabe and Ravnzfan all gave him the same good advice? So he's not ungrateful but it's back to why do it? It's thankless.I don't think it makes me shallow wanting a simple thank you "once in a blue moon". I'm sure the people that don't offer assistance would think so but who cares. If I have time, I do it again, if not I don't. I feel no inclination to do it with regularity. What if Joe said thanks? Yeah that'd do it. I wouldn't need a t-shirt or free subscription or anything. Just one little hint that spending an hour here and there to help others is appreciated. The last sentence, I don't agree with wholeheartedly above. See I'm happy if people post news. If that person posts 5 stories a day and doesn't want to chime in in the AC forum, doesn't bug me one bit. Someone mentioned that they offer advice for alot of folks then ask one quick Q figuring "hey what the heck, might as well try" and get precious few replies. That's happenned to me and again with the thankless stuff. If you answer 100 questions, can't 10 guys just 10% reply to yours? That's pretty grrrr when it happens. So all in all, no I don't have to be thanked or have to get replies in a "### for tat" type way but something, anything.

Serious response here...Why would someone want my advice? For a mere $1.50 a week you can get the advice of David Dodds and umpteen other people who live, eat, and breath this stuff. For a $1.50 a week you've hired Dodds and company to spend hundreds of hours answering every conceivable question possible with the tools now release. Sure, I can beat Dodds on a WDIS some of the time, but it's a rare day that any of us will face off against him on every single issue and come out on top. Basically you're buying Dodds a beer to draft your team, rate your trades, pick you lineup for your scoring system, and select who to phone in to your bookie. If you don't trust him or want to do it yourself, almost every stat you could want is at your disposal. The only weakness Dodds and company have is in breaking news and analysis of players they haven't seen. That's what the Shark Pool is for. Sure I might have some insight on Steve Smith or Drew Carter, but applying that to a post asking for a comparison to Andre Johnson who I haven't seen this year is asking for a biased response.
:goodposting: Between the passing/rushing match ups, the top250 going forward, cheatsheets updates daily, weather reports, injury reports...what else could they put in the inof that comes out during the week that could aid in the decision making process.

I guess that I'm glad that someone goes over to the ACF to help those folks, if only to keep the Shark Pool on-topic. Go over to the "Fantasy Football" forum at Fanball and see how that is working out for them:http://forums.fanball.com/forum.bb?prg=boa...id=1~fid=1~5844

It is *all* WDIS stuff, and the meaty topics quickly get shuffled off the first page. Frankly, I think that the Shark Pool can serve everyone's needs, if they are clever enough. And if they're not, then the ACF is a good place to remove them.

Frankly, I don't see how answering questions in the ACF helps people--it gives them a fish, but doesn't necessarily teach them how to fish. You learn how to fish in the Shark Pool (unless, of course, you're going on actual fishing trip, which is reserved for the FFA).

Sample thread

By the way, check out the thread above. Instead of asking "Hey guys, I've got X (in the Houston backfield) but after this week, should I pick up Y?", he makes that thread. He gets the information that he needs, but still makes it general enough to be of use to other lurkers in the Shark Pool. This is how it is done.

Sure it does. When I did that last year, the whole point was to explain thought processes and give people ways to think about the problem, so they could use that in the future. It works. Many came back to me with new questions, but had already used their new logic to figure things out--and they made the right decision.

I know a lot of you don't like the ACF. That's fine. But to say it's "useless" is crap. They DO learn, if you actually take the time to help, instead of saying, "Gore, please see mine." every time.

I think the ACF is plenty useful--as being a reservoir for stuff that doesn't belong in the Shark Pool.I'm sure people appreciate you giving very direct input to their questions. But I still stand by the notion that they'll be better off wading through the Shark Pool for a bit, and figuring it out on their own. That's how most of us learned.

BTW, where the #### were you when I was starting out and had questions in the ACF? :D
