I am starting to wonder how much experience some people in here have with the NFL. I don't care how many YPC a rookie back puts up. It is entirely irrelevant. If there is a veteran back who is moving the chains (even at a lower YPC), keeping his assignments in the passing game (particularly blitz pickup) and keeping the football secure then, in all but the rarest of circumstances, that veteran will keep the job.

If we were talking about a rookie Adrian Peterson and an incumbent Chester Taylor then I would worry about the veteran's job security, but we're not talking about that. We're talking about Crowell and Tate and in this case the veteran will win out. That's the way the NFL works. Now if Tate starts ######## the bed for several weeks in a row, fumbling, missing blocks and the like then maybe the door will open for the rookie, but if he keeps doing what he is doing then expect him to hold onto his job.

Injury is what will allow Crowell to get into the starting lineup this year and not much else.

No. It wasn't intended to be condescending and it wasn't entirely inaccurate either. Tate got benched and cut for attitude and it's my bad for not considering the "bad teammate" option but let's not act like he was benched for production.In the future I will add a "bad teammate" option.

your first sentence was pretty condescending. Tate wouldn't have been sharing a load if he was playing well. He wasn't. Marshawn Lynch comes to mind as a malcontent who is kept around because he produces. Tate didn't produce and is now gone.

The only thing stopping Crowell from running away with the job is the fumbles. That's got to stop. Even with that they still felt comfortable enough to cut Tate which says a lot IMO. I'm not starting Crowell this weekend but I'm interested to see what happens with the touches. I think out touches West something like 18 to 7 and West gets more receptions like 5 to 2.

I drafted and held Crowell all season. I agree with you. It is still not time for exuberance.

Until he proves he can play without fumbling, Crowell remains extremely risky to start for fantasy owners.

Some of the greatest backs of today have had their share of fumbles, including uber studs DeMarco Murray and Adrian Peterson. Let's face it, there are some big dudes on the defensive side of the ball, and they will occasionally strip the strongest running back.

If you want a running back who never fumbles, you need to be satisfied with a Ben Jarvis Green Ellis who will give you three yards and a cloud of dust. If I sound a little bitter, it's because i watched Tom Coughlin destroy David Wilson's career even before the injuries caught up with him.

Pettine stuck up for Crowell after the game. He attributed the fumble to a great defensive play. Pettine does not think Crowell has a fumbling problem. 2 weeks fumble free (Crowell's fault or not) should put that whole thing to rest.

As far as pass protection, I have not seen one sentence of negative press about Crowell's pass protection. West was inactive for one game for bad pass protection/not carrying out fakes in practice. Since then, West has been killing it in pass protection.

Most likely situation 3 weeks from now IMO is Crowell as the 1st and 2nd down back and West as the passing/3rd down back.

Ball is still 2-3 weeks from playing and so is Hillman. When they both return who knows how Denver will utilize them. Don't want to deal with that mess heading into the fantasy playoffs.

I think that should be in the sit/start thread. But it is an opportunity to point out that Crowell's floor is not as high as that of an uncontested first string RB playing a team that just made a guy the Pats pulled of the street look like an all-pro.

CJ Anderson? Lynch? Foster has more and more dings. Maybe Forsett but his schedule isn't the cakewalk that Crow's is. Lacy maybe. I don't think Ingram with the way the Saints are playing and him being an FO at end of season. Even if not top 5 I have a hard time not seeing him top 10.

The issue with Crowell ROS is usage, like it has been all season. I love the guy, but I wouldn't trade for him right now if I had a lot of those guys because when they're playing it is their backfield.

My bad. I always assume dynasty trades in these kinds of threads. Weird to say "I believe in this dude, so I traded a starting situation to get his backup, who will never play because I believe in the dude so hard". But in redraft it makes a little more sense.

The Atlanta run D isn't that bad really. Going back to week 4 where they were destroyed by Minn on the ground, they've given up only 101 yds/game rushing. That's probably better then average if I had to guess. But they've been shredded through the air so take that as u will..

Is this really high? I'd like to think this would be selling low. Once the situation clears up and West is given his second string memo, Crow's value should blast through the nest. CACAW!

Browns coach Mike Pettine defended Isaiah Crowell's Week 11 lost fumble, crediting Texans ILB Brian Cushing with making a great play.
The Browns appear to be increasingly committed to Crowell, sticking with him after the loose ball, and cutting Ben Tate. "I don't see him as having a fumbling problem," Pettine said. "I think he was trying to switch (hands with) the ball and got caught. I thought Cushing made a heck of a play. He hit right on top of it." The Cleveland Plain Dealer foresees the Browns using a "two-back rotation" of Crowell and Terrance West going forward. Crowell is the strongest fantasy option, at least for now.
