Isaiah Crowell (3 Viewers)

Isaiah Crowell apologized to Cleveland police chief Calvin Williams for the image he posted on his Instagram account last week.
Crowell has come under fire for posting an image of a police officer being stabbed in the neck by a hooded person last Wednesday. Crowell deleted the post almost immediately and issued what seemed to be a sincere apology. In a statement, the Browns said an apology is "insufficient" and Crowell will need to "take steps to make a positive difference after a very negative and impactful post." Crowell is not expected to be released, but he has some work to do to earn back Cleveland's trust.

"I'm sorry I tried to encourage people to slash police officer's throats."

If you are the police chief, do you accept his apology? Perhaps instead he should call a press conference and highlight this as a great example of one thing that is wrong with race relations in America today.

".... but you don't understand old fart, social media is instrumental in establishing a brand for these young athletes! They are just PEOPLE!"

Wonder how many extra Crowell jerseys were sold as a result of his social media account?

I am not surprised an organization owned by a POS like Haslam would keep Crowell on the team.
Bro, every team in the NFL has ppl on their roster that have committed ACTUAL crimes. Some, pretty effing heinous ones.

A photo that was circulating around social media for days, is pretty lame in comparison.

Stupid to do as a player? Absolutely. Drop worthy? No.

A better organization cuts this guy immediately. He's not even that good which makes it easier. You're kidding yourself if you don't think the Ravens cut him yesterday, in this situation.

The Cleveland Police Union is threatening to boycott Browns games if Isaiah Crowell doesn't do more than apologize for his Instragam post depicting a police officer being stabbed in the neck by a hooded person.
The post was made after Alton Sterling and Philando Castile's deaths, but five days before five Dallas police were shot and killed. President of Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association Stephen Loomis called Crowell's apology "store bought" and is demanding Crowell "go to Dallas, help the families who lost their loved ones last week, write them a check, look them in the eyes and give a heartfelt apology." Loomis went so far as to compare Crowell's post to "putting a picture of historical African-American men being hung from a tree in the 60s." Further, Loomis threatened to "pull Cleveland officers, sheriffs, (and) state troopers out of First Energy Stadium this season if he doesn't make it right." Crowell's social media decision making has become enough of a distraction that it could inch him closer to the roster bubble in Cleveland.

Wasn't he arrested and kicked out of college too?  The Ravens aren't a good example, but there are a number of teams who probably wouldn't have him on their roster to begin with just based on character, regardless of whether he is good at football.

What a big fracking moron this guy is. Guys who are this dumb don't usually turn out to be very good players. Good luck, Crowell owners.

Man, I can't believe how big of a deal this thing is. This is a molehill that the media and the Cleveland police chief turned into a mountain. Was it a stupid thing to post? Of course it was, but I don't believe it was a threat in any way, just a guy venting his frustration in a stupid way. An apology should have been more than enough. People wanting him to be cut are crazy. This police chief is greatly overstepping his bounds, on something that is 100% none of his business.

Crowell was an idiot, and probably deserves to pay a fine for his actions.

I'm old-fashioned though.  I want to see such fines imposed by judicial process, not by public browbeating on behalf of law enforcement agencies.

I am quite certaine there are a whole lot of HoFers who are plenty dumb.  It's football not rocket surgery.
I don't know about that. The elite, HOF type players seem to have smarts too. That's usually what separates them. All these guys are tremendous athletes. The difference is their mental approach and understanding of the game.

I see no reason to consider drafting any Cleveland RB this year.    No QB, no WR and decent TE meaning every team will stack the box.  Add in you could have RBBC splitting dismal RB stats.  How would you ever have confidence starting a Cleveland RB?

MOney talks. I buy the apology.  Even if he is completely insincere, a pro athlete game check will go a long way to help the foundation, as much as anything short of bringing loved ones back can, so Cro is firmly on my good list this week.

"Mental approach" is a bit different from smart. It's closer to emotional intelligence. You can rattle off a bunch of great players who bombed the Wonderlic, a test designed to assess their intelligence and understanding of the game. Frank Gore, AJ Green, Dan Marino. There's a difference between a dumb mistake and being dumb. Making dumb mistakes is more a symptom of immaturity.

I feel a little bad for Crowell. It's a great gesture but I'd bet he regrets giving up that money pretty quick. He's on a UFA contract and might not get many extra years after he plays that out. I'm not sure what the right public shaming is. This seems pretty similar to the Riley Cooper incident a couple years ago but his only punishment was team sanctioned "sensitivity training," and the team never really got over it.

I find his contract to be relative. If he was paid like Peterson the game check he'd have to give up would be around $750,000.  Based on his contract he'd be giving up $37,500. I love the old lady and the penny biblical parable  but I still think it's debatable if it's worse to have to give up a lot more because you make more or hurts more because you make less but give up less. To me it's relative.

I think at this point of  he did what he needed to do. We saw Ray Rice shut out forever when that video came out and we saw teams eventually welcome guys like Vick back but it took some time. Point is he needed to do whatever needed to be done to help make this go away and not potentially cut and forced to sit out an extended period of time until public outcry calms down, like with Vick, or worse getting the permanent vacation like Rice.

Now I will say if he had did a more sincere initial apology the first time, instead of publicist/attorney prepared statement, then he might not have had to give up the check.

Lastly I'll just say I'm pretty down on the BLM movement and very very down on those who would advocate random violence on police. So safe to say I thought his instagram pick was repulsive. But I'm sick and tired of public shaming. Tired of the indignation and social media lynching. I don't own Crowell in a single fantasy league or root for the Browns in any way but put me down as saying I'm glad that he's not lost his job. Sucks to lose some money and he's got some serious PR work to still do but he's employed and he can work these things out over time. That's a whole lot better than being shamed into permanent banishment over one dumb mistake.

You're down on a movement that wants a group of people to be killed by police less?

I am a Duke owner and to be honest, I feel the same as you.  The guy made a mistake and he apologized. He didn't break a law.  Let it go.

Smart is relative.  Having awareness, imo, is smart.  Elite players have better awareness, dumb players lack awareness.  My take, anyways.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. He's smart enough to post on an elite fantasy football message board as user 'Soulfly3'. He can't be that stupid.
