Our COO was recently let go and my boss is now jumping in to the role.

One of his first moves is offering me the position of running the new branch in Dallas.

My mind is pretty blown and I only have a week to decide. I've never undertaken a move like this.

what is Dallas like?

How does it compare to NYC?

what is it like establishing in a new city from scratch?

so much is running through my head I'll probably have more questions soon.

thanks in advance for any insight

From NYC to Dallas. Buy a car. Get used to sitting for in the car.

Same salary will have you living like a king in Dallas.

1 week is not enough time for a life decision, get more time.  then visit your work area, find a realtor, you know.....do some research.

i would go anywhere if the opportunity was right.  life is about risks and discovering new things.

dont blow this.

I just got notified of the offer about 30 minutes ago

i always start my research here

Why is that?
Weather sucks. I only ever remember it being freezing cold, or I was dying in a fiery oven.

Not a nice looking city at all. Enjoy strip centers, tract homes, and freeways.

People can be nice, but are they REALLY nice?

You weren't doing Dallas right.

Tons of beautiful and nicely done areas.

Love Dallas.

Great because I currently earn only a little more than 28k now
In that case, it's a no-brainer.  It's got to be a good upgrade in pay, your money will go further, and it will look good on your resume regardless of how it turns out.

I guess my biggest concern is job security because it's a new branch.

otherwise there is nothing in my life preventing me from even moving to the moon if I wanted to

Does it matter?  A single guy takes the promotion and worries about where he'll live after Dallas later.

NYC your hometown? if so you should go (and i hate Dallas). You sound young and everyone should bust out of their hometown at least once, younger the better.

I wouldn't want to live there, but there are far worse places.  For a move up in your career unless there is something really holding you to NYC (like Mom paying the rent because you can't live on 28K in NYC) then it's probably the right move.

I recommend the moon over Dallas.  Fewer Cowboys fans.

Actually it's a pretty cool place.  Good place to be young and single.

Would it be that hard to find a job equivalent to what you have if this doesn't work out?

Security means you're afraid of losing what you have. Is what you have that hard to replace?
I really don't know about the job market in my industry

i sort of just fell ### backwards in to where I am now
