Its Steeler Week (1 Viewer)

The Steelers make their annual pilgrimage to the north coast as they finish the season at Cleveland. The Browns last home victory in this series was in 2009, when the Eric Mangini-led Browns won the first of 4 in a row to end the year.

The Browns have played better in the last several games, keeping most games close but unable to finish in the 4th quarter. The Browns DL controlled the Steelers OL in the last meeting. Maybe they can put it all together once and ruin the Steelers hopes of a division title.

Notice how it's "Steelers week" for the Browns but never "Browns week" for the Steelers?

Hammer >>> Nail
When the browns joined the NFL, they'd regular beat the snot out of the Steelers for 2 decades. It was "Browns week" to them and we didn't care as much. Then in the 1970s, they got the upper hand and we really cared about beating them. Then in the 1980s, the Browns reasserted themselves and the Steelers cared again. In the 1990s and 2000s, the Steelers were dominant and they didn't care as much.As hot as the rivalry has been, its notable in that the two franchise have never been good at the same time. The all-time series is close to even.

Right now there are signs the series may shift to the Browns favor this decade.

1. The Steelers front 7 are excellent but very old. Their defense could fall off a cliff in a couple years if their drafts suck.

2. The Steelers OL already is garbage.

3. The Browns FINALLY after several decades have a talented GM in Tom Heckert and are having good drafts, but they need a few more good drafts to really turn things around.

Yeah, those games were tough to watch back in the early 50s. I remember being so embarrassed for how the Steelers played.

1. Hood and Heyward have already flashed the potential to be long term starters. DT is a need, as is Farrior and Harrison's replacements. CB is as good as it's been since Woodson/Lake. This D isn't going anywhere.2. The Steelers have found some good young OL that are already starting or pushing for starting spots. Add Pouncey, and this line has gotten MUCH younger and a bit better recently.3. Agree. Advantage - Browns. They should be picking well ahead of the Steelers for most of the forseeable future.

Unfortunately this isn't much of a rivalry, during the past 51 years the Steeler are 59-30 against the Browns and 21-3 over the past 20 years. As for this shift you speak of, I'm not sure what you're smoking, but you're crazy.

As hot as the rivalry has been, its notable in that the two franchise have never been good at the same time.
The Browns had some decent teams in the 70s (Cardiac Kids) and while the Steelers of the 80's weren't great they still made the playoffs 4 times and their record against the Browns in that decade was 8-12 so the rivalry was decent.

This is the NFL and things can change quickly so maybe the Browns do turn it around but the signs are just a lot of whistling past the graveyard.1. The Steelers actually have a nice mix of youth and experience on the their front 7 and have a great history of drafting and developing linebackers.

2. The Steelers have some decent young offensive lineman. There is still work to be done but the outlook is more promising now than it has been in years.

3. The Steelers GM, Kevin Colbert, has a proven track record. I wouldn't count on him suddenly sucking at the draft.

You also conveniently left out that the Browns have no skill players on offense. Their QB and WRs are horrible and they don't know what they have at RB. They have a lot of work to do...

Poor Cleveland. The original' Browns are keeping the rivalry going. This perpetual expansion team the NFL dropped on Cleveland? notsomuch.

1. They are old. And who cares what their history in the draft was. What's going on now?

2. "decent" :lmao: Oh yes there is a LOT of work to be done. How is it promising when the Browns DL owned them on the GL?

3. Colbert has a proven track record of running the OL into the ground, I'll agree with you there. He also inherited Aaron Smith.

The Steelers are 22-4 against the Browns since they re-entered the NFL as an expansion team in 1999. The Steelers have won 15 of the past 16.

Those 4 plays were the Browns fans Superbowl. :lmao:

I think the Browns odds of winning this game is actually pretty good. Pouncey is still out. I wonder if there's going to be any payback on the field for the hit Harrison made on McCoy, plus his hits on Massaquoi and Cribbs in past meetings. Maybe a little Turkey Jones on Ben.

Are you kidding? The Browns defense will probably thank him for getting McCoy out of there. Maybe the Steelers owe the Browns payback for the hit on Ben's ankle. It actually cost the Steelers something.

:lmao: Optimism, like staph infection, apparently springs eternal in Cleveland.

How about some new material? You don't see us trotting out the Kordell gay jokes any more.

As a Ravens fan, I'm very concerned about their chances of winning at Cincy, where they are 2-6 since Marvin took over the Bengals. But I think the Browns have a real shot at beating Pittsburgh, especially now that Wallace is playing instead of McCoy. The Browns gave the Steelers all they could handle on a short week, on the road, with a concussed McCoy finishing the game. With a gimpy Ben in the first game, the Steelers still couldn't move the ball on the ground and now Cleveland is playing better with a healthy Hillis.

I think the Bengals have a great shot at beating the Ravens, but there's still a real chance the Browns could bail them out by knocking off Pittsburgh.

This game is the Browns SuperBowl. They have nothing else to play for but pride and trying to go into the offseason with a Win. Pitt not only needs a win but help from Cincy. The_Man might be right about Cincy beating Baltimore, but that is far from a sure thing. Pitt has bigger fish to worry about than just this week.

Cleveland is so banged up and out manned as much as they will want to give Pitt a game, it will be an uphill climb for Cleveland to win this week. I think any Pitt fan expecting an easy victory (cough cough - CLE +7 at home)this week however is sorely mistaken.

Pitt 20

Cleveland 17

We said the same thing about the massacre last year that led to Mangini's firing. The only thing I can hope for is aggravating Ben's injury and a little payback to Harrison. I fully expect the Browns to get smoked.

I also have the Bengals beating the Ravens. The Browns have injuries but their DL is healthy which matters a lot here.

Agreed. This is a grudge match for the Browns and even though they would probably be better off losing (to improve their draft position) they aren't going to lay down. I wonder if maybe the Browns might be more up for this game and the Steelers might be looking past them and into the playoffs. I don't think that will be the case but it could be.On defense Woodley is out and Polamalu and Harrison did not practice yesterday. On offense they get Roethlisberger, Pouncey and Sanders back but Legursky and Mewelde Moore will not play. Mike Wallace was limited.

Browns fans getting fired up for their games against the Steelers is like squirrels getting psyched for their rivalry with the highway.

They could win without any of those guys playing.

Agreed but the Steelers have a tendency to play down to the level of their competition and nearly lost at home to the Browns. As long as the Steelers protect the ball I don't see them losing but I also don't think the Browns are going to lay down. The good news is the Browns offense stinks -- 17 points should be enough to win his game.

Good to see Pittsburgh finally found a way to beat the Browns.
Hey, at least you guys held up your end of the bargain to get into to get into the playoffs yesterday after Denver lost. Have fun watching Cincy stock up at your expense as well, guy.
I made your yearly salary betting on the Chargers yesterday.HTH
cool story, bro. pls tell it again
zOMG... lolzttyl
