I've decided to quit boozing and smoking cigarettes (1 Viewer)

Good luck!  I gave up tobacco on Jan 1, 2015 and I haven't had a drink in over 4 months.  I haven't missed the booze at all but I think about the tobacco basically every day.

Quit dipping in 2003. And 2010. And 2014. Only took one dip in the last 3 years and regretted it immediately, spat it out. Haven't gone back.

Not quitting drinking, but I'll keep beer out of the fridge during the week so I only drink wine, whiskey or vodka sent from the fbg t shirt exchange during the week. I keep telling myself I'll do an alcohol free month sometime but haven't yet. Maybe I'll go cold turkey during the week but I like having one drink most nights.

Godspeed

I have never taken a puff or dip in my life, but I'm currently drinking some 7-up, cranberry juice and Bombay Sapphire at my desk at 10:25.

Good luck.

 Hopefully going cold turkey won't be too hard.
Quit dipping cold turkey on 1/1/2017.

Quit smoking cold turkey on 6/6/2017.

Still drinking.

Hardest part is first 48 hours. Then the first few weeks when around triggers (other smokers, drinking, long drive, etc)

Full disclosure: I have smoked probably 10 cigarettes in the past 120 days while drinking, so not perfect, but not dependent anymore.

Good luck!

I don't understand anyone who hasn't made an honest effort to switch to vaping by now.
Health benefits are proven, harm reduction is proven and the products out now are a close simulation.

The Juul vapor has seriously changed my life in regards to helping me kick my smoking habit and I can't recommend it enough. For all of you pot smokers, Juul is made by the same company that makes the Pax herb vaporizer.

I've been a heavy smoker for just about 20 years and have tried many times to quit throughout the years. I am still very addicted to nicotine, but this vape stick has helped me eliminated all of the physical damage that comes along with being a smoker.

From one nic addict to another, good for you wazoo and good luck!!!

Cigs - Great call, best thing I ever did for myself.

Booze - Whoa, whoa, let's not get carried away here.

I haven't had a beer in about a month. I probably haven't been able to say that in like 30 years. My usual was like 2 6-packs over the weekend and maybe a pint or 2 during the week. It's not that I'm quitting drinking, I'm just stopping bringing them into the house. I'll still have a couple of beers if I go out. Still drinking wine at home though.

It's getting harder to stay in shape as I get older, especially trying to keep the belly away, so I figured it's time. It actually hasn't been that hard. A year or 2 ago would have been tougher as I was really into all the new craft beers but I've slowed down on them anyway.

Now I want a beer.

When I quit smoking I found it easier to not say "I'll never have another cigarette" That was too much pressure. Just see how many days you can go without one and keep pushing yourself one more day, then one more day, them one more day. And anytime you think of having a smoke, change the subject in your head to something else. Stop letting it get in your mind.

I eventually allowed myself a cigarette or 2 while on vacation only and after a couple of years I couldn't even do that because they tasted so horrible.

Good luck!

Triggers are the key. Do something else when you would be triggered. I chewed sunflower seeds but honestly that's kind of disgusting too. I never dipped at home so I never wanted a dip at home. But as soon as I got into work the craving would kick in.

Quitting smoking was super easy the third time I tried it. Having it outlawed in bars was the key. Don't miss it at all. (Disclaimer: I still think about smoking every day when I have my first cup of coffee.)

Don't have the link offhand but it's in this forum. Back when the concept was new the ecigs weren't so reliable--but it clicked for me and I quit a long standing habit in weeks.

Good for you. I had posted in the e-cig forum as well. Started in August of 2013, last cigarette Thanksgiving of 2013.
I am amazed when I smell smokers and think, "that's how I used to smell and never knew it."

Apropos the smell etc, I'd have a hard time dating a smoker.
