Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, who injured his knee last night against the Cowboys, will miss at least three weeks and possibly more. He’ll have an MRI today to determine the extent of what appears to be an MCL injury — an injury that could end his season if a tear is revealed.
As for Jacobs, preliminary indications are he suffered a minor medial collateral ligament sprain that will keep him out for about three weeks, provided today’s MRI reveals no tears to the MCL or any other ligaments, according to a person familiar with the preliminary tests. The person requested anonymity because injury information is supposed to be released by the team.
The news isn’t much better for defensive tackle Osi Umenyiora, who left in the first quarter with a knee injury of his own. Although he left under his own power, his injury appears to be more serious than Jacobs. And while no one is saying it yet, it could be a season-ender. He will also have an MRI today.
As if two MRI’s weren’t enough, quarterback Eli Manning will have one of his own. Late in the fourth quarter, Manning appeared to injure his right (throwing) shoulder and was promptly removed from the game.
“It feels just a little tight, a little sore,” Manning said after the game. “I’m going to get an MRI (today), but I could still throw on it. I threw the touchdown to Plaxico (Burress). I could still make all the throws. It’s just a little tight right now, a little sore.
“I don’t anticipate missing any time, but we’ll see how it feels (today) and we’ll see what the MRI and the X-rays say and go from there.”
Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to 2007 New York Giants football.
Notes:
There has been no additional word on Kevin Dockery (ankle), William Joseph (back), Jeremy Shockey (unknown - minor) and Barry Cofield (unknown), who all suffered injuries of their own last night.
