Jamaal Charles Thread: Hall of Famer? (1 Viewer)

Reid will give the ball to him 35 times next week to make up for it. From game 3 on though your guess is as good as mine.

First time JC owner. Was so excited to watch him run, catch & run all over the Titans...I guess it's better than him being hurt. There is hope for week 2.

I wouldn't panic. I'm sure Reid is going to realize that he underused him today and I would expect a healthy dose of JC next week.
as an Eagles fan, I remember having similar thoughts, game after game, season after season, for more than a decade... :hangover:

I would love to acquire JC. Carried me to a championship last year.

He barely got the ball. Just stupid on the part of the playcaller. He didn't lose his insane talent in a single offseason.

Inexcusable. If you don't realize it until after the game, you shouldn't be a coach
Andy's placating the fans. Andy does what Andy wants to do and no one will tell him how to run his team. He'll take the blame, constantly telling the media he "has to do a better job". He says it over and over again with no real change. At least that was his m.o. in Philly. Maybe he's a changed man now.

I love that the rest of the world can now feel what Philadelphia had for the last 8 years of his tenure.

Seems Reid is has become an idiot.

Speaking Monday, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said TE Travis Kelce is "capable of playing more than 18 plays."

It's Reid way of admitting he screwed up, and tacit acknowledgment that Kelce should have a bigger role going forward. This being Reid, we're not expecting anything crazy to happen overnight, but the Chiefs have to realize they need Kelce's playmaking ability.

Without reading anything in this thread, I'm guessing the Charles haters never bump this thread when he has a good game.

no, but he lost his offensive line.

I know fantasy players tend to forget this, but it's not just running backs that have talent.

He gave the ball a ton to Charles last year - no reason he won't do it again, yesterday aside.

Not overly familiar with the KC O-line. Knew I could not snag him with the 11th pick, so didn't even look further than that. Is it really that depleted?

It does seem weird, but it is Reid's habit to abandon the run when he is down and/or things are just not working. He is a passaholic and just seems to have games like this. JC owners need not panic.

no offense, but if he's there with the 11th pick in that league there's not much point in any kind of analysis.

they had a good LT last year, brandon albert, who left, so I guess they moved fisher over there and plugged swing tackle donald stephenson in at RT --- stephenson wasn't all that great to begin with, but unfortunately he's currently suspended, so they have LG jeff allen filling in over there, and he probably wasn't all that great as a guard.

eric fisher was the first overall pick last year, but I think he struggled at RT, and it probably hasn't gotten any better at LT this year.

jon asamoah was an excellent guard for them last year, but he went to the falcons ---- last year they could cover his absence by plugging in another good run blocker, geoff schwartz, but he went to the giants.

the aforementioned allen got moved over to sub at RT, so they got this guy mcglynn off cutdowns from the 'skins to start at LG --- mcglynn was reid guy from his philly days.

RG is currently held down by a guy they took in the 6th round in this year's draft.

they basically lost every good player off that line and are left with the pedestrian ones and guys filling in for the pedestrian ones.

here's a bit from PFF

Last year when both Schwartz and Albert were blocking for Charles, then Charles averaged 3.4 yards before he was contacted per carry. With either Schwartz or Albert but not both on the field, Charles’ rushing average was down to 2.5. When neither player was on the field, Charles averaged just 1.3 yards before he was contacted per carry.

When Smith was not under pressure from Week 7 on, Charles was the target of 16.3 percent of his drop backs. When Smith was under pressure, Charles was only the target on 4.5 percent of Smith’s drop backs.
to put some of those numbers into context, here's what PFF had to say about the jaguars line last year

Not only was Jacksonville’s run blocking pathetic last season, it received the worst grade given out by PFF in the last six seasons (-108.0). The Jets ranked 31st, but way ahead of the Jaguars with a -79.3 mark. In 2013, while Gerhart was cruising through a wall of Vikings typically engaged with light defensive fronts, he didn’t meet with resistance until 4.12 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, on average Jones-Drew, on the other hand, was hit just 1.14 yards past the line of scrimmage, on average.

He went 2nd in my league, FYI.

I didn't look into the situation because I knew he would not fall to me. Not many guppies, so I had an idea of what would be taken by the time my first pick came up.

Thanks for that - it's very telling. Was interested in buying 'low' - not sure the owner would over-react after 1 bad game anyway but thoe part in bold is concerning for JC owners.

lool :lmao: :lmao: yeah, sorry -- I don't know how I was reading that.

the thing about jc is he'll always catch a lot of balls in that reid offense, so he should still have ppr value, but I had to pass on him in this one league where I had the first pick.

Reid got it absolutely right last year. I know the history in Philly but I have to think this was the exception and not the norm. He knows what Charles means to the team. That is why he was signed to a new contract. We saw yesterday what that team is like without him. This will get fixed. Buy low if you can.

As pathetic as it sounds, getting Bowe back will be huge for this team. That was the sorriest group of WRs to take the field in an NFL game in 30 years. Charles will be fine.

Its worth noting JC's touches per game has dropped since their 2013 bye week. He was regularly getting 25-30 touches per game. Since then he dropped to about 21 for 3 games and now over the last 3 its been 16, 19, 11. Games 1 thru 10 last year, his low was 22. Since game 11, his high was 22.

Sorry group of wrs and an all pro rb? Rb gets 11 touches you say? Sounds like an Andy Reid game plan.

Andy had these types of games all the time during the latter years in Philly. Thankfully, next week JC will get 40+ touches guaranteed. Reid always made up for it in the next game.

Crazy to consider doing a package deal that mainly comes down to Charles for Leveon Bell in a re-draft? I love Bell's involvement in the passing game and it doesn't look like Blount is going to be a true TD vulture. I'm not one to overreact to one week usually, but it's been offered so I'm listening.

Offensive Line (-17.3)

Breakdown: We all know the Chiefs had issues on their offensive line going into this matchup with the loss of three free agents and the suspension of Donald Stephenson. That last bit gave the Chiefs the bright idea of putting Jeff Allen at right tackle. Allen is a below average guard and putting him at tackle was a disaster, not because Allen was poor at right tackle, he ended with a -2.9, but the recently signed Mike McGlynn took over at left guard. McGlynn was what he has shown time and again: a player who struggles against the majority of the NFL. If you want to find some sliver lining from the Chiefs offensive line, it is possible to look at sixth-round rookie Zach Fulton who had some difficulties in run blocking (-1.9) but posted a -0.6 as a pass blocker.

Signature Stat: The Chiefs’ offensive line as a unit gave up 18 Total Pressures and had a 68.9 Pass Blocking Efficiency which was the second lowest of the week.

I hope they can turn things around. I got JC at #2 in a 12 team PPR redraft. I figured, if DD had him as the clear #1 in that format then I should be good. Especially considering that DD had JC projected as the #1 RB by approximately 30 points. However, now that I read about the KC offensive line woes and the fact that FFG had them ranked as the #31 OL in July, I don't really understand the ranking. I will be looking for a good week 2 and a possible trade thereafter.

I'm a little worried after this game with the minimal touches and many Philly fans saying that this is typical Reed previously seen with Shady/Westbrook. However, I have had Charles on most of my teams for the past couple years. Before Reed, Charles would always be misused in a game much like this past week. For example, in 2012 he has 3 games under 10 carries(5,6,9), or 6 games under 15 carries (5,6,9,12,12,14). He still produced 1700 scrimmage yds,35 rec and 6tds. He had 70 rec last year. He is a lifetime 5+ypc back and hasn't gotten less than 25 passes a game other than the year he was out. He will get his don't fret.

I'm packaging Charles and Riley Cooper for Calvin Johnson in a PPR league
im thinking of giving J.Charles for Calvin J straight up....i have stafford ...otherwise i probably wouldnt even consider this...charles will get on track sooner than later...im just getting a little paranoid

While it's true most people took Charles a couple picks before Mega, right now people are selling low on Charles. Deal just went down in my league where the Charles owner packaged him and Doug Martin for Mega. Just be aware the market price for Charles is falling. If you can get Mega for him straight up, do it now.

The Broncos' defense expects Jamaal Charles to get "a lot of touches this week."

"We definitely know they’re going to have a heavy gameplan for Jamaal," said Broncos CB Aqib Talib. It is the logical conclusion after coach Andy Reid called it "negligence" that Charles only saw 11 touches Week 1. Charles will be force fed the ball against Denver, and remains an elite RB1 despite the tough matchup.
