I have the same decision and hadn't heard the Bush news. I'm still leaning towards J. Bell because MIN is a bit more favorable RB matchup, DET is more likely to be a blowout, and I think the CLE defense can keep the game close.

Me too. Although I have a hard time seeing Bernard not being involved in some sort of split.

I think that the split Bernard will be involved in is being the split receiver on some plays. I bet it goes like 3 to 1 for Hill in terms of carries this week.

I'm still bummed about the way they abandoned the run way too quickly last time against Cleveland :(

That's been Hue's M.O for quite some time. He panics when his team is trailing and gets away from the run.

But now I think he and Marvin sees what a lot of us saw earlier, that Jeremy Hill is a better inside runner than Gio and keeps the chains moving. Marvin's feeling the heat, particularly since he's 0-5 in the playoffs.

Ok, this is my last reply to you. I hate when threads get hijacked between two people, so I won't do it.

2. We have already seen Hill get full duties against the Browns. They crushed him. This is an indisputable fact.

3. Based on the above two tidbits, I am hesitant to drink the Kool Aid again, at least for this game.

4. I respectfully disagree with your above opinions. Hill isn't a lock for a great game. Could I be wrong? Sure.

Yup. That might be an indication of 1) above. It remains to be seen what the split looks like. If hill is getting eddie lacy touches and gio looks like Starks, then yes, my position changes significantly. But if they just flip flop their touches, or maybe hill gets a couple more than he was before? No, not really. I don't think we will get a lot of clarity this year - I expect him to get more touches against Cleveland, but fewer against Denver and Pittsburgh. But his trade value certainly went up on the news.

Getting Bush more involved would actually take the guy not breaking down in warm-ups or after his first couple of hits, he's glass this year. Bell will still get the majority of touches and has the better shot at the end zone. I think Hill will have a tougher time against Cleveland than Bell will have with Minnesota IMHO....

Getting Bush more involved would actually take the guy not breaking down in warm-ups or after his first couple of hits, he's glass this year. Bell will still get the majority of touches and has the better shot at the end zone. I think Hill will have a tougher time against Cleveland than Bell will have with Minnesota IMHO....

You guys are right. The Bush talk about getting "him more involved" and using "his talents" is the same coach-speak you every time he comes back from an injury. I'm hoping for a 85/1 and 3/25 day out of Bell.

Yeah, no, CLE has a pretty bad run defense. Without being ultra scientific you can pretty much tell by looking at total rush yds allowed and yds per carry. But more than anything there is a big gap between how good their pass coverage is and how good their run defense is. PFF have them as the clear #1 in pass coverage, ranked #17 in run defense. As you might know the PFF grades measure each individual player on each individual play so it says more about individual performance than team performance, but Football Outsiders have them ranked as #2 in pass defense and #29 in run defense by their DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average which measures efficiency adjusted for situation and opponent).

That being said CLE might stack the box and force Dalton to beat them through the air, as defensive coordinators generally likes to do, and with Haden on Green and CLE being great at covering RBs in the passing game that would push targets in the direction of Sanu and Gresham. If I were Pettine I'd be pretty comfortable with that game plan.

* Certainly ILB Dansby returning, if he is any semblance of his usual Pro Bowl form, is not on the plus side of the ledger for Hill in this game. I believe as of today, SS Whitner was listed as questionable (if he was earlier, now listed probable)?

4.6 yds per carry in the first game is not "crushed him" IMO

IF he gets the additional carries 70-80 yds rushing and 20-30 yds receiving is a nice game. Throw in a TD and we're in the top 15 easy for the week. I'm playing him over Crowell and CJ1K

Looks like this is playing out as hoped thus far. I haven't watched every play, but Gio appears to be 3rd down back. Caught ball that resulted in 1st & goal (after defensive penalty tacked on), Hill comes in for the short TD

Take away the TD and I think you nailed it. This feels a lot like fool's gold to me.

Not sure I would base my decision on a feeling. Cleveland ranks 25th in rushing defense and Hill will get at least 20 carries more than likely. There aren't too many plays better than that. Conventional wisdom says play Hill unless you really do have better options.

Making my point for me. The Cleveland D is no joke. Last time Cincy played Cleveland, Hill had 12 rushes for 55 yards. Gio wasn't even in the game.

I wouldn't base this Sunday's results on that first game. Cleveland's run defense is still bad and Hill has played well this year.

Cleveland's run D is great. I don't know what you're talking about. They only allowed 6 rushing TDs all year.

Iirc, all our at least most of his big games have been in double digit wins. Of course that's a chicken or egg thing, because they wouldn't have been winning big without him running well in most of those games. This is the first game I can remember where he had the early touchdowns - he had a couple late touchdowns early in the season and his big td run in gio's first missed game was very late in the game.

He looks very natural, instinctive and patient following his blocks and allowing the play to unfold, and flashes outstanding feet and quickness through the hole for a RB listed at around 235 lbs. Pretty much the entire package, except for lacking breakaway speed.

* Hill reminds me a little of a young Corey Dillon at a comparable stage of development, due to his devastating combo of power, speed and agility for a "big" back.

Jeremy Hill rushed 25 times for 148 yards and two touchdowns in the Bengals' 30-0, Week 15 win over the Browns.

The Bengals committed to Hill as their starter during the week, and showed they were serious by handing him the rock on the game's first four plays. He responded by rolling up 24 yards, and was off to the races for his third-best rushing performance of the season. Hill was patient, waiting for holes to develop. Once they did, he almost uniformly made the cuts. He was everything the Bengals wanted and more, and is now locked into workhorse duties for however long the Bengals' season continues. Even against the Broncos' stout run defense, Hill will be in the RB1 conversation for Week 16.

Serious question. What RBs do you take ahead of him in dynasty drafts? Bell obviously, Demarco depending on where he signs, Lacy maybe if you're a fan. Maybe Charles if age doesn't scare you. List is pretty slim imo.

I wouldn't go as far as to say great system. Until today, Cincys run blocking has been pretty marginal. Today all of Cincys backs did well but on the season he averaging a yard a carry more than Gio on more carries. And Gios a good back in his own right.

Starting to wonder about Gio a bit. Going into today's game, he had 142 carries this season and just one run of 20+ yards. He was averaging 3.9 YPC. Last season he averaged 4.1 YPC. On the whole, his work as a runner in the NFL has been pretty ordinary. I think he has exceptional skills as a receiving back because he can make plays in space, but as a pure runner he's probably average to below average by NFL starter standards.

The two Cincy backs have split carries almost 50/50 going into this game, but I think we're going to see Hill as the main rusher in future seasons with Gio as the complementary change of pace back. That should equate to good rushing production for Hill, with Gio slipping to RB2-RB3 status (especially in non-PPR). Given where Gio went in this year's startups, he's probably going to wind up being one of the more overrated players from this past offseason in dynasty leagues.

There were some nice individual plays on there like the run around the edge where he made Leonhard miss to pick up some extra yards and the TD run where he stiff-armed Leonhard in the hole. At the same time, the blocking consistently created lanes for him and that was a huge factor in his numbers.

At this point I would rather have Hill than Gio in dynasty and I think he's shaping up to be a steal based on his rookie draft ADP. However, I view him as more of a good player in a good situation than an independently dominant player. For me there's a higher tier of guys like Peterson, Charles, MJD (in his prime), and SJax (in his prime) who can thrive regardless of supporting cast. That would be my definition of an elite NFL back and I don't think Hill is that good. Lacy is a better comparison. They're good backs in favorable situations, but I wouldn't call either of them a stud or a great player.
