Jerry Sandusky accused of child molestation (2 Viewers)

Sandusky was no longer under Paterno's control by 2002, he had emiratus status at Penn State through his retirment package. In order to revoke that, it had to be done by people above Paterno, most likely by the University President.
so, Joe was helpless and powerless in this situation in your opinion?

What did you want Paterno to do? State law requires him to report this to his superiors, he did. His only mistake was actually believing the superiors could handle the situation. If his superiors handle it appropriately, none of this happens.
his only mistake?well, letting a child rapist hang around for another 9 years might have been another.

oof

You know there will be massive de-commitments and transfers. How are they going to recruit in the midst of this? PSU football is done. Sorry to break the news to you
I don't think any players have decommitted yet.Recruiting will certainly be a challenge, but they aren't going to become Indiana overnight I don't think.
I think in a few years they are going to wish they were Indiana.
No good reason to think all this right now, other than wishful thinking. Though who really knows how deep the rabbit hole goes, or how deep they're willing to dig.. If enough comes out that the NCAA decides to start laying down penalties, all bets are off.

Did the people above Paterno prevent him from dialing 911?

Stop.
Yes. After Paterno rid the school of all the child rapists he should have gone on to tackle all the underage drinking that goes on at Penn State. Then he could have helped out on all the petty crime and vandalism. Cured cancer. Ended world hunger. Established world peace. What other things do we expect from Paterno?

One of the top PA recruits who was still considering PSU basically eliminated them last night. Can't recall his name. Defensive end, I believe.
Pedophile State University. :homer:
Heads up dude.. Joe B said this isn't cool. I think it was back on page 28.

Why is the Penn State football program a disgrace?Sandusky wasn't a part of the program in 2002. Paterno is getting a very raw deal here.
Sandusky has used the Penn State facilities to sodomize young boys. Paterno has known him for 45 years. He has had access to bring boys their from the abused children charity that he was a part of. Are you dense or stupid?
Or in this country you are innocent until proven guilty he was not indicted and in this country law and order matters not an opinion. And stay away from the attacks on another it makes you really look just as bad.Jerry raped kids, not Joe he reported it yet the guy who witnessed it yet said nothing still has a job and no one is hating him.Face it many crave drama and firing Joe was the better story for the media. Even if he did what was required of him by law.

Just a simple phone call to the state police would have been sufficient.

Just 1 actually... responsibility

Finally a little sanity to this whole mess. I would have hoped Paterno stepped down on his own, to show some sort of awareness of what he's done. But at least I have a little more respect for the school.

Wow. Just wow.

That my friends is what it looks like when your football program gets nuked from orbit. It will be years before any one even attempts to rummage through those ashes.
You've said this before. Do you think they're going 0-12 next year or something? They'll hire a new coach and be fine. Probably their typical 8-4 or 7-5 season.
You know there will be massive de-commitments and transfers. How are they going to recruit in the midst of this? PSU football is done. Sorry to break the news to you
They'll be fine.

The only way Penn State football "is done" is if they have a self-imposed death penalty. The NCAA doesn't have any real jurisdiction here and they are unlikely facing any sanctions. By the time they go overboard in making the environment so sanitary that visiting parents can eat off dorm room hall floors, the kids will return to play for one of the great football programs in the country. Probably a couple of lean years ahead, but it's not like they were USC circa 2005 anyway. They probably were gonna lose their last three games and finish 8-4, which these days is a good season up there.
A. I am not so sure that the NCAA doesnt get involved once the smoke clears. You know they are at least going to make a trip to Happy Valley.B. What kid in their right mind will want to play there and face the ridicule. I doubt the history helps in that regard.C. I cannot even imagine what type of coach they will be looking for in the off season.I still think you will see a ton of transfers and de-commits.

Jason Whitlock on MSNBC just suggested that the grand jury waited so long to release the indictment in order to allow Paterno to surpass Eddie Robinson in wins.

All I can say is, read the indictment, man.
:goodposting: Read the 20+ page grand jury document. It's sickening and pretty telling.

Just my opinion, but it's going to go deep and there will be ramifications to the football success in the coming years; not that it matters all that much.FYI, the guy that's trying to depose the Pope is already in contact with the victims.

A. The NCAA prez was on ESPN today saying they have no jurisdiction, it is a criminal matterB. Football players like weight rooms, big stadiums and high profile programs. This will blow over, Penn State has a lot to offer.C. Urban Meyer

Do you call 911 for an incident that happened the previous day? Paterno couldn't even make a statement since he didn't witness anything. Are we now villifying Paterno for not tell McQueary to call the police?

I will bet you one million internet bucks that they lose less than 50% of recruits and 10% of current scholarship players. Their level of pride is far greater than your level of hate.

Here is a pdf of the indictment. I jsut read it and I disagree with above poster. It seems Tim Curley and Gary Schultz are the people the axe should be falling on. Joe Paterno was notified and immediately reported any information to his superior, the Athletic Director. It was not his position to call the police. This was a he said, she said incident and did warrant further investigation. The AD should have concluded that the police should have been called.

I believe in the United States a person is INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty. Sandusky may be a POS, but I didn't read anything criminal done by Joe Paterno. Correct me if Im wrong.

You know they can't just kidnap Meyer. He has to be willing to coach there too.

You must be on drugs if you think Meyer wants any part of this nightmare. The NCAA is going to stick its head in you can be sure of that, no matter what the pres says. The hard questions havent even been asked yet
