This team reminds me a lot of the 2006 Bears......no they didn't WIN the Super Bowl, but they did get there. Great defense and running game with a veteran back (Thomas Jones in both cases) who can get spelled by a solid rookie RB (Benson in 2006, Greene in 2010). The weakness for both teams was the QB position.

As a Colts fan, I was rooting for the Bengals because the Jets are a tougher matchup, IMO. The Jets offensive strength is running the ball, while the Colts are better at pass D than run D. Defensively, the Jets are tremendous against the pass, which is clearly the Colts' offensive strength. No easy trip for the Colts with the Jets and a possible matchup looming against San Diego down the road.

I wouldn't worry too much, Revis can't cover every Colt. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the Colts fall but this won't be Carson Palmer the Jets will be facing.

Of course, most people thought it was worth ignoring that the Jets already beat the Bengals, too.

 
I really hope the Pats win so we get this rematch. The Jets match up pretty well with the Colts and it was a close game just going by while Manning played. The Colts played some very poor games this year and are not invincible. If the Jets can keep it close so the Colts defense can't get into pass defense mode I think they can take them.

Care to make a side wager? Something like add 3 points to whatever the final line is? So, if they do wind up playing and the Colts are giving 10, I give you 13. I'm not trying to show you up or anything, I just think we are both really confident about contrasting points of view.

Huge Jets supporter this week at Cinci, however the air is going to come out of the balloon rather quick this week and I expect the Colts to blow the doors off the Jets this time around.

I feel that way mostly because the Jets likely will not get away with just having Sanchez manage the game next week. Put it this way, Indy has great DEs and their defense IMHO is better than what NY faced today. I was never on the Cinci bandwagon and have liked them less and less the past 2 months. They only beat Det, KC, and CLE down the stretch, get real.

Maybe having their doors blown off is a bit of a stretch but I can't see New York putting more than about 10-17 on the board.

I think you're on the right track MOP. I'm hoping that today's solid victory keeps the number low enough to pound the line early for Indy.

I think we got a better chance of seeing Chargers - Jets, personally.
 
not confident at all if we have to go to Indy. I just don't think the jets can get to Manning. He gets rid of it too quick

Obviously rooting for the Ravens against NE tomorrow. Not that the chargers are a great matchup for NY, but i think its better. Rivers is a little more likely to get rattled than Manning. Plus, if the Ravens win, that means NE lost, which means happy times.

I think the Jets have a better chance vs. the Colts than the Chargers. You should be hoping for a Patriots victory this week, and next week as well. Which matchup do you like better, vs. Pats in the possibly bad, run-friendly weather or the Chargers in good weather?When and if the Jets get bounced, then it's OK to root hard against the Pats. IMO at least.
 
Disagree completely.

Jets can shut down Wayne, but have no answer for Clark, Garcon, or Collie. Additionally they don't seem very good against the run, so Addai and Brown could have success. Addai is also one of the best pass blocking RBs in the league, so the Jets pass rush may not have great success.

On the other side of the ball, the Jets should be able to run, but probably cannot stop Freeney or Mathis, so Sanchez may not be as successful as he was today. I can see Jets scoring, but not enough to keep up with Colts.

Its tricky predicting the Jets success. If you guarantee me that the Jets will have a 4th quarter lead in every playoff game, I'd say they will win the Super Bowl. But if they trail late, I'm not convinced a rookie QB can rally them. They are a team that is either going to grind every playoff opponent into submission, or find themselves down in the 4th quarter and playing some very ugly football as a result.

i can not root for NE under any circumstances. I won't do it. (unless it was week 17 and the Jets needed a NE victory to get into the playoffs)And i don't think the Jets can beat NE in foxboro in an AFC title game. Not as long as Brady and Belichek are there. My life will never be that awesome.
 
The game you are afraid of if you are a Jets fan is the 31-14 loss to the Patriots. The Jets trailed late, and Sanchez was just horrible. In that 4th quarter he threw 2 interceptions in a row and then on the third series he fumbled away the football. He's still a project until he performs better in that scenario.

 
I agree with this, that the Jets matchup well with Indy. Anytime you run the ball well and play good defense, that's not a good matchup for an opposing team no matter who you are.

That's actually my favorite recipe for winning, run and play defense. The question is, how good of a running team are they and how good at defense are they. They will have to be outstanding at both to be able to beat Indy in Indy.

I think the Jets actually play the Colts pretty tough. I don't think Manning makes enough mistakes for the Jets to be able to pull off the upset.

I'm thinking something like: Indy 24 and Jets 17

 
It all about Manning. The guy is just so good at reading the blitz, hitting the hot route, the only way to beat Indy is to get Manning to throw some INT's, and that is really hard to do.

Ryan will not get so blitz crazy against the Colts. Look at how many DB's dressed in the last game. The Jets will play a lot of nickel. Try to cover all of the targets Manning has. The Colts will put up some points. The hope the Jets have is that Sanchez can play as good as he did today, the Jets can run, control the clock and win the TO war.

They may very well have an answer for Clark, Garcon and Collie as well. The Jets pass defense is not just the best in the NFL, its the best BY FAR. Number 1 in pass yards against (154/game), QB rating against (58.8), yards/attempt (5.4) completion percentage (51.4%) and TD passes allowed (8). Granted, if anyone in the league can break their "code", its # 18 on the Colts. But it won't be easy.I still think the game comes down to Sanchez. If he can limit turnovers to no more than 1, the Jets will be right there.
 
I think it is strange that some people talk about Manning like he is a God, like he is unstoppable.

I'm not silly to argue that he isn't great. He is the only reason the Colts are as good as they are. He is fully deserving of the MVP award he won today.

BUT, Since when is Manning a money playoff QB?

Yeah he won 1 Superbowl but he has been known to make a few mistakes in the playoffs too especially against tough defenses. He has a 7-8 career playoff record and a 84.6 Career Playoff QB Rating.

I'm not saying the Jets will be able to shut him down like they did to Palmer but they may be able to force him into a couple of mistakes and they may be able to frustrate him at times. For all the talk about how Sanchez will have to avoid mistakes so will Peyton.

I think this is really the main point in the whole arguement. The Jets can't comeback if they are down (not against the next three teams they would play in the playoffs/SB). Seriously, if they are down by 3 going into the fourth quarter, I would say it is done. Sanchez is funny in that he can play caretaker (ala Dilfer), but if you need him to do something out of the ordinary, he becomes Delhomme.

I disagree a bit. If they are down 3 they still have a chance. What he can't do is bring them back from more than a TD heading into the 4th. As long as they aren't in a position where they have to abandon the run then they have a chance.

:lmao:Where do you come up with this stuff? You do realize that the NYJ are 8th in the NFL vs. the run? Only 1 RB all year topped 100 yds vs. the NYJ. Maurice Jones-Drew. Not even Chris Johnson topped 100 yds against them. Teams average <100 yds rushing/game against them. Oh, and did you know that Indy is 32nd in the NFL in rushing? Dead last. Yeah, I guess they don't seem very good against the run and I'm sure the worst rushing team in the entire NFL should have no problem rushing with success given that information.

Benson really did a nice job yesterday. But yeah, the jets are very solid against the run. They just didn't finish the tackles last night. Benson had 2 or 3 runs where he ran right into a pile and managed to squirm out for some decent gains.
 
Some Colts fans really want to see the Jets next week. I'm not that sure - both the Jets and Baltimore seem similar, but they have slight differences that makes it hard to figure out with team the Colts match up better against and I don't really want to go through the soap opera during the week that the Jets game will certain have. The Colts will have a ton of pressure to win whoever the opponent is (a one and done this year would be the worst of the playoff failures - even worse than 2005, even worse than the 2003 AFC Championship game).

Had the Colts beaten the Jets a couple weeks ago, the Texans would have been in the playoffs instead of the Jets. This is the thing that struck me odd about Indy's decision to rest their veterans in week 16. The Jets have the best D in the NFL, a rock solid running game, and a young improving passing game. Not the type of team you really want to take your chances with.

The Jets D is definitely better than Baltimore's. The Jets are getting it done on the field; Baltimore is living off their past reputation (defensively, at least). The talking heads still talk about them as if this was the 2000 Ravens. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see Balt beat NE today.

My worry about the Ravens is Ray Rice - he's very good.
 
Doesn't matter.

Ravens beat NE.

Jets go to SD and lose. Ravens go to Indy and win.

SD beats Baltimore in a very close game where SD comes back to win in the 4th quarter.

SD loses to Dallas in the SB.

Mark it down!

If they go to Indy, I think Manning has a field day picking those schemes apart.

I think the Jets just got a break and will upset the Chargers, San Diego hasn't been able to run the ball all year and DR will take V.Jackson out of the game, the only chance San Diego has is if Gates comes up LARGE and I'm not sure even that beast can come up with such a large game because he is gonna need help, and I just don't see it coming from anywhere else in San Diego's offense.

I'm a Charger fan and I worry about any team that can run the ball well enough to win the time of possession by a huge margin. A couple of times this was the Chargers' achilles heel - the defense not getting off the field.
