John Madden HoF induction speech. (1 Viewer)

Would it be fair to say that John Madden is the biggest icon in the NFL ever? Possibly in any sport? Next to Michael Jordan, I can't remember a face that is more synonomous with any sport. Whether it be through his coaching, broadcasting, video games, or spokesman for advertisements he is recognized worldide as much as any athlete ever.
I'd say Gretzky is a bigger hockey icon than Madden is a football icon.
Wanna bet? ;)
The 2 most recognizable athletes worldwide: 1) M. Ali 2) T. Woods

"I just want to thank God, and I should specify which God...."   --Jeremy White introducing his father Reggie White P.S. because only their God really matters
They gave him a microphone and he can say whatever he wants. I can't believe how rude people are being on this forum to Reggie Whites family, it's truly pathetic. What he said didn't bother me at all, they are religious, I am an atheist and for some reason I let the kids comments slide by, I have no desire to crucify a kid who most likely has better moral values than 99% of other kids his age, Give the KID a break.
:goodposting: he is saying the same type of things his father said, and would say if he was still alive.

No, it was sort of an inside comment. Some have reported that before White died, he was studying the Talmud. Most think he was studying it to be informed. Others have claimed he was studying it because he was thinking of converting.Guys like ESPN's Eric Kuselias often point out he was studying the Talmud without making any comment. The implication though seems clear.I think his son was trying to put that to rest. But I can see how it might sound weird if you didn't know the backstory. Has nothing to do with which "God really matters".J

:lmao: That says a more about hockey than it does Gretzky or Madden.J

After listening again, I think Rayfield Wright owned them all. He was fantastic. Fun that probably the least recognized guy came off doing the best.

Let's face it; she's in unchartered waters here. It's not like any one had been posthumously inducted before.
Reggie White became the first player inducted into the HoF after he passed away. Everyone else gave their own induction speech; since Reggie's deceased, someone had to give it for him. What don't you understand?
the problem with your statement is that Reggie White was not the first to be elected posthumously. Heck, Bennie Friedman and Fritz Pollard made it in just last year even though they died in 1982 and 1986 respectively.

I did like the fact that some of the Eagles (including McNabb I believe) came to the ceremony in throwing jerseys. Of course knowing Philly fans McNabb will probably get blamed for something. And maybe I am wrong but when I think Reggie White I think the Packers not the Eagles. Maybe it is a 50/50 thing there.
Are you a younger guy? Maybe because I'm an Eagles fan,I see differently.

I'm not sure I follow. Could you explain please?

I just got home from Canton, and I recommend the trip to any fan during induction weekend. Here's my observations from the weekend:

-70% of the people there were Cowboy fans. It was great! I wanna say thanks to all my fellow Cowboy fans who represented.

-The Eagle fans disappointed. Where were they?

-Raider fans definitely showed up in full force. They were real cool.

-Al Davis uses a walker. They didn't show that on TV out of respect I guess, but you guys should lay off him.

-Rayfiled gave the best speach hands down, no contest.

-Madden Was great.

-Sarah White was great.

-Loved Aikman's speach.

-Carson started slow but ended well.

-I went to the batroom and concession stand during Moon's speach

I'm saying that when one says Gretzky is bigger to hockey than Madden is to football doesn't say anything about how Gretzky compares to Madden. The guy that eats all the Nathan's hotdogs is probably more of a Nathans hotdog eating contest icon than Gretzky is a hockey icon or Madden is a football icon.J
