Jon Kitna says the Lions will win 10 games next year (1 Viewer)

I don't know if he knows something we don't, but he said he was very confident in the teams chance next season. He also said he's glad he doesn't have to make the decision about the #2 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, but he would love the Lions to take Calvin Johnson. That surprised me a little since the O-line is horrible is more of a need IMO then WR.

I agree but 10 is a stretch isn't it? I mean they don't even have the schedule yet!
It's not as big of a stretch as you think. Both baltimore and new orleans won seven more games in 2006 than they did in 2005. Also this past season detroit lost nine games by eight points or less so they were close to being 12 -4

And they won two games by eight points or less so they were close to being 1-15. It's certainly possible for teams to make big turnarounds. Just not the Lions.

He's been saying this all offseason. He also said the Lions would reach the SB before the end of the decade.

I wonder if Roy Williams appreciates his QB calling the Lions to draft another elite WR. Doesn't give much respect to the current WR core.

Actually Roy Williams has said on local sports talk that he thought the Lions should draft C Johnson as well. It wouldn't help. This team has a cloud over it bigger than anything Charlie Brown could imagine.

there's no disprespect there at all. CJ is a freak and i'm sure any QB would love to have him.

I'm not so sure... listening to interviews this summer, it sounds like they've changed the atmosphere there. Marinelli has turned over the roster pretty heavily, and it sounds like guys are really on board.

Most players in the league honestly believe their team will contend for a Super Bowl. The fact that Kitna's talking about winning 10 games should tell you something about how bad the Lions are.

I can't even begin to comprehend how awful the Lions defense is going to be this season.

As a Lions fan, I'll be the first to say "not a chance in hell we win 10 games." Maybe years and years of sucking have just made me a wee bit pessimistic. But I'm liking the direction they are going. I was a big fan of Mooch, and was sad to see him become the fall guy. Millen still irks me and should have been gone a long, long time ago (should have be shown the door when Marty Moronweig was fired). Marinelli has them going in the right direction though, I think.

Hey, we're already the laughing stock of the NFL when it comes to drafts and especially the whole WRs in the 1st round thing. So why not go with Calvin Johnson? The man is an unbelieveable talent. I say go for it! He and Roy Williams would be an unbelieveable duo. Many will say "they need to get better linemen" and that sort of thing. But you know what? You have to go with the best player available. We have a LOT of holes to fill, so why go with a "safe" pick like Joe Thomas? Actually, O-linemen aren't entirely "safe" either (see Gallery). Just go with the most explosive player on the board, IF they can't trade out of #2 (which I'd prefer).

This is why Jon Kitna is so well liked by this team. He is a leader they have needed for a long time.

As a Viking fan I am afraid of the Lions picking Calvin Johnson. Him and Roy would be very VERY difficult to stop.

Thier defense does need a lot of work and the Oline needs improvement. I could see this team going 8-8 if they improve in these 2 areas.

It would be a Lions like management move to pass on Johnson because of the 3 top 10 Wr picks recently. Past mistakes leading to further mistakes. Great philosophy. This would be another reason to get rid of Millen.

Johnson is going to be a star. Like I allready said as a Viking fan I am very afraid of the Lions drafting Johnson.

The Lions current starting defensive unit looks like this:

DE: DeWayne White (Career backup who is apparently worth $6 million a year. I sure hope so.)

DT: Shaun Rogers (Stud)

DT: Cory Redding (Solid)

DE: Kalimba Edwards (Situational pass rusher who's useless against the run)

SLB: Boss Bailey (Mediocre when not injured, which isn't often)

MLB: My grandmother

WLB: Ernie Sims (Stud in the making)

CB1: My other grandmother

CB2: Fernando Bryant

SS: Kenoy Kennedy (Good player who doesn't fit the Cover 2 at all)

FS: Daniel Bullocks (Good young coverage safety who should get better)

I like what the Lions are doing offensively, but they've spent a good chunk of their available money. They're going to have to have an absolutely brilliant draft to not have the worst defense in the NFL this season.

I hope they get there and he should be applauded for the prediction.

Much better than the playoff "guarantee" that Fassell had when the Giants were 7-4 and on top of their division - everyone acted like he was Nostradamus.
