Will be interesting to see if/where he signs. When healthy he's still a formidable back..

"LaMont Jordan will be traded or released." I guess this is news, sort of? But when he was told earlier this week to stay away from team activities, that was probably handwriting on the wall there.

does anyone really care? guy is done...
I agree, this guy is 30 and has never fulfilled his FF status as the next stud back.
His back is troubling, but I wouldn't throw dirt on him just yet.You can bet that Al is doing everything he can to ship him to an NFC team, in between diaper changes.

1. Whoever is ripping Lamont Jordan, let's have a serious conversation...guy was behind Curtis Martin for most of his early career, then he went to Oakland and had like 70 receptions and 1,000 yds rushing his 1st year...pretty studly in a lot of ways. Then he went out and was disappointing after Turner left, last season he was kicking butt but got hurt, not something he has a long track history of...and I think he is 29 but I could be wrong.

2. He is probably more likely to get signed quickly unlike Shaun Alexander, Travis Henry, etc...

3. I got him at the tail end of several redraft best ball elagues and I think I got a steal in the last round or next to last round as he will land somewhere and I feel he will have some impact this season.

Despite Al's ever-growing paranoia, I don't see Denver inviting him to camp.
Because they are so comfortable with an oft injured Young and Torain who fractured his foot last season?
How is a second year player (Young) oft injured!?

Well, you wasted your tail end best ball league draft picks. :lmao:

Who's changes, Jordan's or Al's?No, I actually agree that Jordan still has something for this league. His age be damned, there's not too many miles on his legs. I think he could be an at least back up RB for a good number of teams. And given how easily some of the front runners get injured, he could be a nice little surprise late in some team's season.

Young did have a severe season ending ankle injury in college, and he also had nagging injuries last season that required him to come out of several games.

Thanks. So they sign Jordan and dump Hall/Aldridge? Maybe, but I don't see it.If it did happen though it would be hilarious. He'll probably get traded to Houston for a bag of nuts. Or air.

He did have 70 receptions that year, but had a lot of drops as well. This ain't Brian Westbrook, or even Charlie Garner. And that was two back injuries, and about 25 pounds ago. His conditioning has been an issue for two years, which is a bad mix with a bad back. And he was doing well last year, but then again, the Raiders ZBS made Justin Fargas a 1,000 yard rusher, so was he really that studly? Everyone they gave the ball to produced last year.I totally think he's worth a later round flyer in redraft, I would just temper enthusiasm.I cannot see how anyone who saw the manner in which he injured his back last year would have any excitement. He got knocked over, a harmless play, and it knocked him out. He was done.

Clearly said by someone who hasn't breathed the air here in Houston. :lmao:

He did have 70 receptions that year, but had a lot of drops as well.
He also averaged a subpar 3.8 YPC in his one 1K yard season - he got there on a sizable number of carries. It seems that Jordan has always had the talent, but I think his work ethic/commitment is what has held him back from being the guy most thought he'd be when Oakland gave him that big contract.

Division rivals want players from the other team not just because of what they can add to their own team, but also because those players know things about their division opponent. That's why you dont want a veteran signing with your rival. I believe Denver is probably the favorite to sign Jordan if he's released. Al Davis realizes this and has been trying to trade Jordan and also part of the reason why they cant afford to let him report to camp. No one is going to trade for him though unless he agrees to a pay cut. So right now, Jordan is in the drivers seat. He'll attempt to report to camp and Oakland will grant him his release.

He'll end up in Philly as a backup and insurance policy to B. Westbrook. Granted PHI likes what they have seen from Booker, they know that if Westy goes down...Booker can't do it by himself. Thus, Jordan seems logical.

Raiders release LaMont Jordan

Friday, July 25, 2008

NAPA, Calif. (AP) The Oakland Raiders finally released running back LaMont Jordan on Friday after being unable to trade him to another team.

The Raiders have had little use for Jordan since midway through last season, when he carried the ball only 19 times in the final nine games. He fell further down the depth chart after Oakland used the fourth overall pick to draft Darren McFadden and Oakland had been looking to trade him for months.

Jordan was told not to take the field during the Raiders' mandatory minicamp last month and was then told not to report to training camp this week. Coach Lane Kiffin said owner Al Davis was trying to resolve the situation with Jordan's agent, Alvin Keels.

With no trade to be found, Oakland granted Jordan his release instead of allowing him to report to training camp. He was scheduled to make $4.7 million this year and $5 million next season.

Jordan, 29, has played 97 games in seven seasons with the Raiders and Jets, rushing for 3,285 yards and 24 touchdowns. He was a capable backup to Curtis Martin in New York but did not develop into the elite back the Raiders hoped for after signing with the team before the 2005 season.

Jordan rushed for 1,025 yards, caught 70 passes and scored 11 touchdowns his first season in Oakland, but has had much less impact since with only 983 yards rushing the last two seasons.

He got off to a fast start last year, rushing for 424 yards in his first four games for the second highest total in the league. But he injured his back in the first half of the fourth game and did little the remainder of the season. He fell behind Justin Fargas on the depth chart, but the Raiders decided to hang onto him for the remainder of the season instead of activating rookie Michael Bush off the physically unable to perform list.

With McFadden, Fargas and Bush all healthy, there was no role for Jordan on the Raiders this season.

Also Friday, the Raiders re-signed quarterback Jeff Otis to take Jordan's spot on the roster. Otis was with Oakland during training camp last year and is will be used to give quarterbacks JaMarcus Russell, Marques Tuiasosopo and Andrew Walter relief during camp.

MOP: Step 1...get released by Oakland...mission accomplished. I have scooped this guy up in almost every league I have drafted in this year very late, typically the last round or two.

Step 2: Sign somewhere that has a fuzzy stable of RB at best...Det, Hou, Den, Cinci...

Good luck with that. He'll be a clear backup in every one of those places.

He'd be the best RB in Denver. Jordan's biggest problems are his back and conditioning. With a bad back its hard to get in shape yet he has to get in shape or his back will only get worse. None of us really know just how much of a problem his back really is. He did play with it last year. I dont expect him to hold up but if he went to Denver he could maybe stay healthy long enough to win the starting job. He's worth a late round flyer.

Signed in New England
Wow. Behind Maroney and Morris?
Morris is 31...Faulk 32...I think Jordan can easily become the RB2 here...maybe eat some time away from Maroney.
Betcha a cup of coffee Jordan never cracks second on the depth chart, barring injuries ahead of him of course.Edit: Faulk isn't his competition. His 3rd down role seems secure. Jordan is competing with Maroney and Morris for 1st/2nd down work.

with Morris and Maroney, this caveat will mean no coffee changes hands. I doubt we make it into November without either Maroney or Morris missing time.

I wouldn't even bet that Jordan will be on the team opening day.
