just wanted to share some of my drawings (1 Viewer)

Eant to adress chaka first

I dont think im an exceptionally talented artist. I always doubted myself until I heard from Hector Collazo that I was good enough to work in comic. The portfolio I worked on 2 years ago was much better because I was heavily motivated. These drawings you see here were done ten years ago.

As fpr the subject matter, these drawings werent intended to be original characters. These drawings were my first exercises working with quality tools. These are not figures I would consider putting in an original comic book. I dont really enjoy drawings superheroes. I would be better suited for more realistic characters like maybe crime stories.

Even in these I think the compositions are very creative even if the subjects arent. I am very critical of my own art and besides the owl I dont think much of these older drawings myself.

Thanks to everyone who enjoyed the work. Eventually when im on my feet I plan to produce some more work to display where ive progressed to now.

Those are pretty good.

Who to you have for 8th grade English next semester?

From my perspective your drawings clearly show some talent, not nearly the level of talent that you think they show but talent nonetheless. ... At it's worst it looks like cover art for a high school garage metal band (IOW not very good).

BTW is the consensus that this guy is bluemagic or johnjohn or DSP or whatever the #### his name is that posts nonstop for a week and #####es about his life?
Yes. He's pathetically still claiming he's DSPs friend despite obviously being the same person (see the username on the pic account).

Yes

For the record I know the Interactive Director at Marvel Entertainment pretty damn well... (College buddy, still in touch). Those pics are not good enough to pass along (I knew a half dozen kids in HS that could draw like that or better).

Not to mention your personality shown on these forums is one that I simply would never stick my neck out for on a professional level.

I know they arent good enough to pass along. Hector Collazo told my recent stuff was but I dont have scans of them. He was going to help me find work with smaller diverse publishers because I dont like drawing superheroes and spandex.

If I were to do an original comic it would probably be something like a gritty detective story inspired by those violent asian cop movies or if not that a sci fi.

Im good at drawing graphic violence and a lot of blood.

Im not good enough to work for the big companies but I am for the independents.

Man some of yoU guys are real pricks. Nice drawings MC.
I agree.

If you can draw these why are you whining about your Tourette's and not being able to find a job?
Its not easy to make a living from art. Thats why there are starving artists. Many arent suited for anything else.
Stop this.

There are plenty of jobs out there which require basic motor skills and an 80 IQ. Sure, they aren't glamorous and will result in millions, but quit with the "I'm so unique and talented and am just not made for normal jobs" sentiment.

:hey:

Hook me up! I'd love to branch out from corporate voiceovers into more character/animation work.

Of course... because blood is easy. You should probably learn to properly draw a face before you pursue this much further. You've got some decent shading chops but your understanding of anatomy is a ways off and you obviously are afraid to tackle the challenging parts of the human form (it's no secret you intentionally hide the faces of most of your characters).

Not saying you're devoid of talent... but your sense of skill is highly inflated and your chops are extremely raw (not in a good way).

Btw, I'm surprised at the lack of Slenderman jokes.

DSP, those are good drawings. Especially the owl. Ever consider maybe putting down the smartphone or whatever it is you use to needlessly post here and dedicate that time to drawing? Or, get even crazier, and go work at least a part-time job so you can afford the proper tools and then draw in your free time? That's certainly gotta be a better way to express yourself then trolling us fishes.

Now you just sound like a dope.I used to know Hector Collazo. A 20+ year veteran comic artist. He worked for all the big companies and he told me he could get me work in comics any time I wanted. He passed away before I finished my portfolio

So dont even try to say they arent good.
GD, from a stroke at 45.
I feel like its my fault because he wanted to help me. That was the third person in the last 5 years that died after they tried to help me.
So you really can't blame me for not wanting to encourage you now can you?
Nobody ever died from complimenting me. I get plenty of those.
Sorry.

Great drawings.
:jawdrop:

good stuff, Mc.

Comic art... can't imagine it's the easiest market to break into, short of self-publishing. Have you tried that? Get a blog going with 3-panels at a time telling a story... dunno... that's all I can think of. But you clearly have some ability- I just imagine that so do the other people trying break into that market.

To be fair, most of us are gainfully employed/in school/doing something worthwhile.

debatable.

You want advice:

1. Get your best works scanned in

2. Work on improving your skills and developing your portfolio.

I know there will be a ton of reasons you can't, but why not come up with ways you can instead?

Blood, guts, brains, bones are not all that easy.

Nobodies face is obscured except for the bald guy who is supposed to be in pain.

I dont have an inflated sense of talent. In my eyes all my drawings are terrible and its a constant learning experience. I plan to eventually show some recent work on here.

My shading and anatomy were praised abpve anything else by Hector. He said I had a unique suited for the smaller publishers that offer a more diverse lineup than marvel or DC. He said it evoked Mike Mignola.

Im going to take an actual successful comic book artists word. Having a college buddy thatbworks for marvel does not mean you know what you are talking about and based on your tone you are just reaching so you can put me down. The anatomy part is especially a reach because that has always been one of my strengths because I read medical books and studied bodybuilding magazines as a kid.

Im much less negative when it comes to art. These are my dream and im confident that I have the motivation and focus to get my skills where they need to be.

Maybe I should do a comic based on the FFA. A war in a message board dimension. Icon is in first place to be the villian that wont shut up.

Ive often thought this would be the best route if I decide to go back to drawing instead of writing.

There will be several.

Im starting to get interested in doing character designs based on some of your screenames and post them.

Its not about glamour its about being mentally stimulated. That is always the problem ive known artists to have. They cant handle boredom which is why so many develope substance problems.

So, I was just over on a cooking forum that I frequent. They have their own version of the FFA over there (they call it "Talk About Anything Else"). Anyway, someone just started a thread titled "My daughter's boyfriend's drawings suck".

Ok. Ive decided the first thing I will do when I get on my feet is to start doing character designs for the FBG comic.

When that time comes ill gather input from whoever wants their character in it.

Why do you have to be on your feet? Just do it. You never will though. Just one excuse after another until you are gone.

Nice
 I didn't think it was a very nice thing to say at all.
Isnt it someone from here that posted my pictures?
I can't do this. I made the whole thing up.

I need a home to work out of and supplies. It costs a couple hundred dollars in supplies to get started. A halfway house is not an environment to try to draw and write in with all the noise.

why can't you do both?

aren't blogs free? get yourself on a schedule where you write and draw a three panel story every... week/month/something... and stick to it. Keeping yourself busy and with a schedule will help, IMO.

Let's just agree to disagree.

It will get done. At least character designs. Just have sone patience.

The best I could do now is rough sketches and take pics on my phone. Do you want that or wait til I have the supplies to do finished work like these drawings?

I will get the FBG comic started. Im very interestedi n it now so just give me a bit of time. Im going to my girls for the weekend so perhaps next week ill do some rough sketches and try to find someone with a scanner.

I just looked through the drawings again and I dpnt know what icon was blathering about.

The anatomy is pretty spot on. All muscle groups and head/body proportions are accurate. The faces are good, especially the women which are difficult to draw. The shadows are in the proper places just heavily stylized.

You should seek out RapidFireWeasel's opinion/advice.

He's a working artist/teacher and one of the better people you'll meet on this board.

You're like this kid I used to play lots of sports with when I was young. Baseball, basketball, football, hockey, etc. Kid was very good and should have easily made teams and contributed to winning games. Except, ####### every time it came time to try out for a team, play a big game, hell, play a ####### pickup wiffle ball game the kid would immediately start making excuses, none of which were his fault, as to why things weren't going to go his way then let it affect the way he played. Shockingly, he got cut from teams he should have made and didn't perform well in "big" games.

I dont make excuses when oppurtunities present themselves.

Im going to do these character concepts so at leastbim trying to apply myself instead of sitting around feeling miserable. Im sure everyone will get a kick out of it and who knows it might become something.

One criticism would be the way you shade. I get that its comic art but there needs to be some sort of illusion of shading. Can't go straight from light to dark, it creates too much contrast and makes the eye jump around the image. Contrast should be used to direct the viewer where you want them to go.
