Karlos Williams, RB (BUF) (1 Viewer)

Bills coach Rex Ryan considers Karlos Williams (concussion) a "reach" for Sunday's game against the Titans.
With LeSean McCoy (hamstring) expected to miss his second straight game, it means the Bills will be left with Anthony Dixon as their starter, and Cierre Wood and Boom Herron as potential COP backs. It places added pressure on Tyrod Taylor in a deceptively-difficult road start. Dixon won't be more than an RB3 who needs a touchdown to provide any real value to fantasy owners.

Trade for this guy if you can? After sitting this week he may be a buy low and may have 3-4 more games being the lead back if shady stays out.

If healthy...

With Tyrod out, are Williams owners still hot to start him? On one hand, they likely lean on the run game if they can, but on the other hand, defenses will surely key in on the run and force EJ to beat them.

If he's healthy this week, I think I have to start him, but would likely bump him down a bit with Manuel behind center.

I think that's over thinking it, tbh. If he's starting, I'm playing him at home against a team that just got shredded for 170 yards last week. They may not beat the Bengals but this will be a close game and potential trap game for CIN.

I agree with this. I'm in PPR and Christ Thompson has been a sneaky play for me lately with byes and injuries. Now with Matt jones banged up he's an even better play IMO, but I'd still sit him for Karlos.

Karlos has scored in every game he's played in. And it's such a great matchup

Karlos starts at RB in my lineup this week, even without Tyrod. Talent prevails. Cincy, while their D/ST may have a very good game, do not stop the run very good. I would expect a run, grind it out, run the clock, rely on good defense to be Buffalo's game plan...as long as they don't fall down by a couple touchdowns. Mixing in Sammy will keep em honest as he has a decent repoire with EJ. Karlos a #2 RB this week, with upside.

I don't disagree that he takes a downward bump with EJ but ya definitely startable; if you have better options in a 12team league you're golden.

yes, from a medical standpoint it's not great that he is still in the protocol but it's not terribly bad either.

Most individuals are experiencing concussion symptoms for about 10 days with 80% recovering within 14. A small percentage of people report sx past the two week mark and that is more concerning.

Since he experienced his concussion on a Sunday, but didn't show sx until Monday, or was diagnosed Monday, the fact that he is about 10 (now 11) days out and not practiced is not terribly bad. I was able to get the nfl's concussion protocol from Dr Kevin Guskiewicz, who is a member of the nfls head neck and spine committee as well as one of the writers of the national concussion guidelines. I don't have it off hand but when I was at this conference I was surprised any nfl player was able to pass this within one week and play the next. It's quite restrictive. He needs to be 2 or 3 days removed from symptoms to be able to practice I believe.

If he doesn't practice at all today then I would be more worried than I was yesterday. If he doesn't go today I would expect him to be out Sunday. Friday is the really pushing it

Edit: after going through my information from his presentation I remember he did not give us the protocol because it is privileged information, or whatever. Basically it's owned by the nfl and he cannot just give it to us in a hard copy. This was also the case regarding concussion statistics he was showing us in the nfl. But I do believe one criteria for just returning to light practice was 2 or 3 days removed from any sx, and then I believe they need to show no signs of sx for two days of light practice to be cleared for contact. Basically the way he laid it out is that the only way possible for a player to return the next week is if they are one of the few that recover very quickly. Most of the time you're looking at least one week off. I'd be very surprised if Williams played this week without practicing today.

good info here. i believe the NFL is cracking down on rushing these players back.

only real cure for a concussion is time.

I completely agree. I think if any player comes back the next week they either had a very mild concussion, false positive concussion test, or they are just plain fudging their symptoms to play again. I also spoke to the Seattle Seahawks team physician, Dr. Stanley Herring regarding this at a different conference and he reaffirmed my thoughts. I think we all know that not only the team physician but an independent physician has to clear the player for practice. There are a LOT of hoops to jump through just to practice, and then more to be cleared to play. I mean Karlos could be having difficulty with bright lights, or light headache with light jogging, but no other symptoms and he's not going to be cleared.

I'm not dropping yet. I think he should still have value to the McCoy owner at the very least. But he is now one of the bottom two guys on my roster along with Tevin Coleman.

Very disappointing he hasn't been able to play while McCoy is out, because I believe that he would of carved out a bigger role. But if you can hold him I would. We saw that he could produce as the "thunder" guy with McCoy getting his touches.

All depends on who you're dropping him for, but I still see plenty of upside for this year that may be hard to find at RB on the waiver wire.

Story's not over here. Williams was doing fine even when McCoy was healthy. Unless the concussion threatens to keep him out several more weeks, he's worth adding.

From what we saw so far this year having both McCoy and Williams suited up keeps the D from focusing on Williams and he produces. When there is no McCoy focus goes to Williams and he doesn't produce so well
