Kelly Holcomb- where does he fit in wit da Iggles? (1 Viewer)

i could see him making the team with kolb on the practice squad, but if kolb grasps the system quickly enough to where reid feels safe with him as his qb3, then holcomb is an obvious cut. the situation won't play out untill deep into training camp.

There's no way Kolb goes to practice squad where a team can pluck him off for nothing. Holcomb and AJ Feeley are fighting for QB2, loser gets a ticket home.

yeah, i forgot that teams can pick him off the practice squad. feeley and holcomb fight for the # 2 and loser goes home i agree with as well. situation wont shake out untill deep into training camp. my money is on feeley.

 I don't think it will be much of a fight.

One has a career completion percentage nine over the other (on more attempts and longer ypa)- and it's not your horse.

Feeley signed a contract extension and Kolb was a 2nd round pick. Definitely seems like Holcomb will be released at some point as I doubt another team would trade for him.

Next Friday will be Holcomb's last day with the Eagles.

1) McNabb

2) Feely

3) Kolb

Late in season Kolb gets mop up duty instead of Feely.

Holcomb has already said that he may retire. (no link)

Maybe during camp some other team needs a vet (KC after they get rid of Trent?) and offers a bag of balls for him.

It's a shame. I always thought Holcomb could be a top 10 QB if given the chance with a good O. That said, I'm sure Minnesota is on speed dial.

Thanks for the info and thoughts, guys. He sure looked to an uninformed guy to be the odd man out, but I've also been a fan of his when he plays and have time to watch the training camp battle between him and Feely play out.

Reid brought Holcomb in to compete with Feeley.

While not so likely, I would not doubt Reid would be thrilled if Kolb beats both of them out for the backup spot and one of them is #3.

I think if McNabb is recovered from his injuries than Holcomb is cut but not until the last minute. What if McNabb is fine for now and hurt in preseason. An option may be IR for Kolb, they did it with Koy Detmer when they drafted him, but the downside to that is that they can not pratice with the team I believe. They could also carry 4 QB's but dress 3 but that seems unlikely because of the roster spot. McNabbs health is the key. I think they would be foolish to do anything till the last minute though. Let Holcumb learn the offense just in case.

Kolb will not be #2 this year as a rookie. Holcomb is insurance in case McNabbs recovery doesnt go well, or in case of another injury. If all are healthy, there is no chance Holcomb makes the team.

Agreed. They need bodies for preseason. McNabb hardly sees the field in preseason when healthy.Eagles are alway very savvy in terms of personnel, alot of times getting something out of nothing. They are great at the buy low/ sell high game. Maybe some team desperate comes calling in the preseason because of injuries, etc. and they get a draft pick. If not, they'll dump him at the end of preseason.Hell, they got a 2nd rounder for Feeley a few years back, and then got him back later for practically nothing. Holcomb at least has some experience, and even put up a few monster games back in the day with the Browns when the "Kelly Holcomb/Tim Couch" controversy was at its peak (however ugly it is to think about that sorry controversy)
