Kevin Smith ankle injury (1 Viewer)

I'm glad that he's getting better, but I would prefer if he just sat this week and would come back strong for the last few weeks
Me too, but obviously Schwartz has to pull out all the stops to win. The defense is hurting with the loss of Suh and lingering injury issues. Maybe they try and limit their exposure to losing him for the duration and make him part of the mix.

Why do people want him to sit if he's getting better?

I would like him to be closer to 100% but thats just me. Im just worried if he rushes back he will make it worse

You guys act like the Lions care about your fantasy team lol. If he can cut near full speed he's not going to rest for your fantasy playoffs.

My only other good option is Hillis vs Bal. I may flex Smith and pick up Burleson/Young for a backup plan since they play at 8:20.

You mean to say they don't?

I barely care about my team. It was a response to the post above really

Attempts to be the wise-guy failed. Obviously the Lions are going to do what's best for them. I really doubt inferring differently was on anyone's mind. It was probably just the crazy notion of discussing how something would impact for your fantasy team while posting on a fantasy football message board.

This from Dodds sleeper email:

Maurice Morris, Det at NO

Kevin Smith looks like he will scratch this week leaving the majority of the running duties to Maurice Morris. The Saints have yielded some big running efforts lately (Michael Turner had 96 rushing yards in week 10, Steven Jackson had 191 combined yards and 2 scores in week 8). The key will be not falling too far behind the Saints else the Lions may abandon the running attack while playing from behind.

This contradicts the Rotoworld report. Any Lion fans out there to help clarify this situation?

TIA!

I believe it is out of concern that playing him will stop him from getting better.Or worse.
:goodposting: I have Smith, Morris and Williams (deep rosters) and I would rather know that either Smith is 100% or sitting so that I know Morris is going to get the bulk of the work. I started Morris when Smith went off and Smith last week when he "would" have gone off until he got hurt. It sucks starting the wrong guy every week, so if Smith is 90% but active, he could easily play sparingly. Morris is a solid producer in PPR and would be a solid play if Smith is inactive. I would be more than happy to see Smith inactive and almost ready and then know he is 100% for the rest of the season as I would much rather start a healthy Smith over a healthy Morris.

If he can't play this week it probably means he's in worse shape than if he did play. If he doesn't play this week it makes it tough to start a player the game coming off a multi-week injury week 14 if he's even back by then. Him playing this week is the best possible news for an owner. There is no other news that can be better.

In PPR leagues, falling behind is not an issue. Even with Smith playing the first quarter, Morris had 9 catches last week. With Williams fumbling last week, Morris is a pretty solid start in PPR, regardless of the score against NO.

Dam you guys want to watch the notebook and paint each others nails after this?

I was kidding but I'm sure something could be had from my comment regarding playing K. Smith with some sort of backup plan. Hopefully if helps the people that actually need him to make the playoffs this week. If he pulls a Hillis or Lynch while your bench is locked and your game is yet decided GL.

No,Smith had 3 catches and racked up 10 pts in the first QTR. He was on his way to another monster day, but Morris got his seconds and racked up the catches. If Smith plays all 4 qtrs, Morris is an afterthought fantasy-wise.

This was probably written before today's practice report.

This. Thats funny math and not allowed. Smith walked in off the streets and sent Morris to the bench in one game. To suggest Morris will do well based on production that happened after Smith got injured just doesnt make sense. The only way morris gets that many targets this week is if Smith goes out gimpy....again.

He's not disagreeing with either of you. He is disagreeing with Dodds thought that falling behind could hurt the Lions RB.

Rotoworld..."Kevin Smith (ankle) was a full participant in his return to practice Thursday."Every day it's getting better so at this pace I'm excited," Smith said. "... I was able to practice the full practice. I feel good, it's still an ankle sprain, but it's football." Smith is taking the first-team reps, so the Lions obviously believe he's on track to play against the Saints. If he puts in another full practice on Friday, there's RB2 value here in an enticing matchup."

:thumbup:He cost me a close win in a competitive league last week, which means if I don't win this week I'll miss the playoffs... And despite all that, if he's starting I'll go RIGHT back to the KSmith well and with my Kool-Aid cup in hand. He'll either make or destroy my entire season at this point. :banned:

You play in a leagues that only starts one (1) player?

I'm in exactly the same boat. Lost by 2 points last week with Smith going out in the first quarter. So I need a win this week to make the playoffs and I'm playing the 12-0 team averaging 165 points/game so I need Smith and all my players to come big this week. I could start DeAngelo Williams, and he has a pretty good matchup, but it's PPR and he gets no catches. I need to take a chance on the guy who could have a huge game over the guy who caps out at a pretty good game.

That's how I view it. If you need upside and Smith plays, then start him. If you predict your game to be close and can't afford the gamble, then start someone more consistent.
