Krista4's Beatles 1-25 List Thread! Count down will start Mon Feb 14 noon ET. Will take new lists til then... (1 Viewer)

On this date in 1994.  Paul inducts John into the R&R Hall of Fame as a solo artist.  So sweet, so full of emotion.
I watched this the other day! Paul styled it in the form of a letter to John, great anecdotes. Such a treat.

“Think about me every now and then, old friend.” - final words Lennon said to Macca the last time they spoke

This is wrong and I apologize if anyone was led astray.

Correct order:

4. Abbey Road or Rubber Soul or SPLHCB (changes daily)
3. Abbey Road or Rubber Soul or SPLHCB (changes daily)
2. Abbey Road or Rubber Soul or SPLHCB (changes daily)
1. Revolver

Please forgive my ignorance, I’m learning new things everyday.

Did you guys know there’s a Super Deluxe Abbey Road?

@Getzlaf15

What’s the policy on do-overs? My top 25 needs a major revision.

Two more lists processed today.  OH's and mine.

I looked at my 2019 list the day I started this, but have not looked at again until I was done with my 2022 list.

In 2019, I loved the Beatles, but really had not listened them in a purposeful way for the prior 15 years.

In 2019, for most of us, that changed in a big way.  There are easily 5-6 songs in Krista's 2019 countdown that have effected the rankings on the list so far. Very interesting stuff.

When she started in 2019, I was recovering from insufficiency fracture in my left knee and the only way for it to heal was to be wheelchair bound for two months.  Her thread actually made that time very enjoyable. For months, I woke up every morning with a Beatles song in my head. I'd click on the youtube when she posted every song and listen.  Then I'd listen, often for hours, as youtube randomly played other songs.

My Beatles tastes since then have changed a bit. Nothing too drastic.  My faves are still the early Beatles.

I did have six songs on the 2019 Top 25, that did not make the 2022 Top 25.
Five songs moved up, and five out of my Top 10.
2022 #1 wasn't even on my 2019 list!
One 2019 Top 10 fell out of my 2022 Top 25.

This time, I listened to just about every song that was possibly in my Top 100.  Made a list of 41 from that. And then just listened to those 41 and did the song vs song comparison many are doing.

Keep those lists coming!

I sent in a list today. I like the Beatles a lot, but I'm NOWHERE NEAR the expert many of y'all are. So not a lot of deep cuts on my Top 25.

Also - it wasn't asked, but if I had ranked every Beatles song ever, Michelle would come in last.
I wonder if anyone has this song as #1 overall?

I don’t normally share anything personal but this my dad from a while back explaining to my daughter he signed the Beatles. Ordinary people do extraordinary things. Great decisions are made for the simplest reasons. “I figured if I like them this much other people might too”

In the documentary Produced by George Martin, he said he signed the Beatles because of their personalities, not their music.

So, since I raised my kids correctly, I asked my 3 oldest to put together rankings to submit along with mine.  Last night, I told my oldest son that I had printed off all the songs for them to look at to use.  A few minutes later, I see him sitting at the table writing, and then 5 minutes later, he hands me a list.

While on the one hand, I'm proud he's confident enough in his Beatles knowledge and what he likes, on the other, there's a part of me that wants others to go through the pain and torment I'm having of paring down and ranking and re-ranking.

I love every bit of this.

JML is having people rank as many U2 songs as they want. I did my list for that yesterday, figuring I would get to 50, but then kept going, “what about this one?” and got to 80.

I hope that’s not how my Beatles process (which I haven’t started yet) ends up working.

This was a bad idea.  I have always been a Beatles fan and became a bigger fan since the K4 thread.  My scope of songs that I really enjoy has grown.  Generating the list time is proving to be quite difficult.   I can’t even get my list down to 25 songs to rank those 25.  Ugh.

I found doing the song vs song test as the only way out.

Don't sleep on "A Taste of Honey."
I found out something I didn't know on the Get Back film

Billy Preston was playing with Little Richard when he met the Beatles in Hamburg.  The song that the Beatles did that Billy liked the best back then??  A Taste of Honey........

24 lists processed.  15 different songs have been rated #1 so for.

It's a Ringo Free-For-All!

Standings are so different from last time as our tastes have changed and several family/friends lists have come in.

MOCS’s list is just like he was - unique, somewhat eccentric, fun and full of surprises.

Major News!!!  @Binky The Doormat list is in!!

Beatles breakdown for me - picks 26 and 27 were donated by Gr00vus!!!  Since I don't have my previous list from 3 years ago - but I'm pretty sure it's quite a bit different.  It's based on what I want to hear now, I tried to not pay attention to the popularity of the songs (though there is a bit of that in here ...) - just what hits me currently.  It's comparatively George heavy ...and could have been even more George heavy.

single - 3

Revolver - 4

Abbey Road - 3

Rubber Soul - 4

White Album - 4

Magical Mystery Tour - 1

Sgt. Pepper's LHCB - 1

Help! - 3

A Hard Day's Night - 1

Let It Be - 1

With The Beatles - 1

Yellow Submarine - 1

Lennon - 9

McCartney - 10

Harrison - 8

I'm going through my hippling of krista's thread to see what songs I touted there, particularly any I remembered putting on the 90-minute cassette I made of my favorites from the complete catalog on CD when I was in college. 😆

And now I'm hippling this thread too.

I eventually produced a top 5 toward the end that thread. It won't be exactly the same as what I submit, but everything there will be in the top 10.

Combining every song I stanned when I hippled Krista's thread and every song I picked in the Beatles/solo Beatles draft I did on another board produces 31 songs. And that's not counting certain "legendary" songs I love that I didn't call out specifically because there's not much more to say about them.

OK, list in. Heavy on the later stuff, as I knew it would be.

White Album: 5
singles: 5
Abbey Road: 4
Revolver: 4
Let It Be: 3
Sgt. Pepper: 2
Rubber Soul: 1
Yellow Submarine: 1

Lead vocals:

John: 9
Paul: 6
George: 5
John/Paul: 4
Ringo: 1

25 lists are in....  The swings up and down many songs are taking each day is awesome. I wish I could comment further.

I think this one is falling out of my top 25 this time after being somewhere in the teens in 2019.  I was just particularly fascinated by it at that time.  Still love it, but others have had more staying power.  :)
It isn't in my top 25 either, but I think it is a great song, and I can certainly see why it would be in someone else's top 25. It is a top 5 favorite song from the White Album.

I have my 25 settled (and it was really hard. Like probably everyone, I'm surprised at the songs I am leaving off). They are not ordered yet, so I'll submit the list next week.

By album:

Please Please Me - 1

With the Beatles - 2

Hard Days Night - 3

Help - 2

Rubber Soul - 4

Revolver - 1

Pepper - 2

White Album - 2

Abbey Road - 3

Let It Be - 3

Singles/etc - 2

I'm a little surprised that I have only 3 total from Revolver and Pepper, and I'm also surprised at the fairly even split between the early and later work  (if you make between Rubber Soul/Revolver the line). Without me really looking at the albums, I'd likely say "I prefer the later stuff" off the cuff, but once I started picking songs, that's not so at all.

As far as vocals, Ringo gets one and George gets two. The rest is a pretty even split between John/Paul/Both.

I was shocked to see that I had zero selections from The White Album on my list. I loved the album and have the four original photos that came with the record framed and hanging on my kitchen wall.

I didn't have any, either. If we had gone 50 deep, I may have had 2 or 3 on there. But most of the Next 25 would have been from the first 5 LPs (or singles from that era).

Apparently I've decided to post a "today in Beatles history" every day.  I think when we get into the countdown, I'll post some trivia every day as well (Guido, you are not allowed to play ;)  ).

On this day in 1966, George married pie-faced painted stick* Pattie Boyd.  Pattie wanted a church wedding, but Brian Epstein insisted they marry at the register office and try to keep it a secret.  (They were met with dozens of photographers as they emerged from the wedding, so you see how well that worked.)  Pattie seemed excited about it anyway.  Paul served as best man and looked more into the bride than George did.

*OH's words, not mine.
