Kurt Warner's performance........ (1 Viewer)

Just remember: Warner is the answer to the question, "Who had the most 300-yd games last year?" This isn't a fluke or a function of playing the Niners. This is a talented offense with a guy who knows how to sling the ball. His only rate-limiting factor is injuries. But, I said this in previous posts, if he plays all 16 games, Warner is QB#2 or #3 this year.

IF he indeed stays healthy, and finishes #2 or 3, he could be one of the finest value plays for this year. I picked him up in 2 of my leagues, usually after round 8.

When healthy he's one of the best QBs ever or excellent or ??. His thumb injury lingerred for years and I still have never understood that. Best docs, get it fixed. All those millions+career based on using your hands, get it fixed. He threw ducks and had lost some confidence and took sacks he wouldn't have before and....he stunk with that thumb bugging him.

Probably gonna get flamed for this but his Rams performance is "up there" with the greatest seasons I've ever seen. That timing and ability to lead the WR made alot of QBs seem so inferior.

I'd probably also say he's got a "glass jaw" of sorts so just take the stats while you can and get Leinart as his handcuff. One could easily argue that he had two HOF caliber WRs in St. Louis+an all purpose back that could go to the HOF and now the same in Zona. Also two top offensive coaches, product of the system. Whatever, take those stats while you can.

:goodposting: (but can he stay healthy for 16 games?)

as a warner owner, i am going to try to sell high today.

i don't see him staying healthy. i just don't.

it's a ticking concussion bomb.

CBS live scoring gamecenter has Leinart throwing for 12 yards.

I quickly went to the play-by-play to see if Warner got hurt at the end or something.

Looks like an error on the part of CBS....

I have Warner and Culpepper. I will start Warner over Culpepper. Warner looked good and he has alot of weapons.

Leinart did not see any action.

Warner looked good for the most part. He scrambled well and created time for his receivers to get open. Fitzgerald actually dropped a few passes that he should have caught. The running game struggled badly in the first half and improved to mediocre in the second half.

But I have to think that the 49ers are still a poor defense and that a lot of teams will do this to them again this season.

I can't imagine... :coffee:

Warner looked great. He even did quite a bit of moving around to buy himself more time when pressured.

As others have said, though, the limiting factor with him will be injuries. I watched most of the game yesterday, and I saw Warner and/or his linemen putting his shoulder pad back inside his jersey about a thousand times. He was knocked down on almost every single passing play. No way he can withstand that for 16 weeks, especially considering his injury history.

Here's hoping he remains upright so he can continue posting big numbers!

What's up with the three Warner fumbles? Were these good hits or his fault?

He has had significant fumble problems before and this bears watching, though hard to bench a 300 yd 2 td QB.

You're right. A lot of teams will put up big passing totals against the 49ers. Warner will keep doing it regardless of who he plays. Last seven games of '05.

He had 3 TDs.I was watching the game, because I started Warner. He has a bad habit of keeping his right arm cocked when he's moving around under pressure. It worked nicely for the TD pass to Boldin. He avoided a tackler and managed to quickly release it into the end zone.It does, however, lead to a few unneccassary fumbles.

One fumble came when he was sacked by Walt Harris and another when he was hit by Brandon Moore. Both were his fault. The other came when his lineman collided with him during the snap and he can perhaps be forgiven that one.

Warner is a top 5 QB for fantasy football. James got his carries but Warner still put up the numbers. If your league gives bonus points for 300 yards he is money for about 5 this year barring injury. Two legit top ten WR's and a top 10 back. I started him in my leagues and I am off and running.

You can worry yourself to death about injuries, but there is no way to predict injuries. Warner could just as easily avoid injury and play all 16 games this year as he could break his leg on the first play of the game next week.

If you own Warner and you are considering trading him because you "think" he might get hurt, more power to you, but how bad will you feel if he plays all year and puts up monster numbers? Many time winning fantasy football leagues comes down to not making moves as much as it does to making moves. At this point I would much rather have him on my roster then on the roster of any of my opponents.

He may very get hurt, but trading him away seems to make no fantasy sense right now. Especially considering where he was probably drafted.

He may very well be the "BEST VALUE" there is in fantasy right now considering ADP.

I thought his low preseason ranking by most everybody (including FBG, sorry) was absurd, because it really felt like it was based more on potential injury and Leinhart then it was on his ability and situation (Boldin, Fitz, better RB).

well i don't think i am going to trade him.

i would only trade him for a good WR and the only team in my league who needs a QB is the guy who started trent green and he has mcnair and the only WR he could trade back to me is darrell jackson (not that he would and not that i would want jackson).

i think you guys are right-probably best to pick up an able backup (think i prefer kitna or rivers to leinart) and hope warner is ok.

i just got worried seeing yesterday he was getting hit and fumbling already. how many times can that happen before he is concussed again?

however it is nice knowing when he is out there he has a chance to rack up points like few other QBs.

I can sorta see the Rivers argument...but I would not expect many to choose Kitna over Leinart if both were starting. If Warner goes down, Leinart has the same weapons, and hopefully just more durability.

Leinart did not see any action.
CBS Sportsline live scoring mistakenly had Leinart in for the second play from scrimmage (a completed 12-yard pass). At the time, I wondered if Warner had been injured on the first play, but Kurt was back under center for the third snap. Then I wondered if maybe they were playing Musical Chairs with the QB position in ARI, rotating them in on every other play. When I didn't see Leinart's name pop up anymore after that, I stopped worrying about it.
